NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him, he made himself stronger against Israel	1 Al suo posto divenne re Giosafat, suo figlio, il quale consolidò il potere su Israele.
2 by stationing troops in al the fortified towns in Judah and by garrisoning Judah and the towns ofEphraim which his father Asa had captured.	2 Egli stanziò truppe in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda e designò governatori nel territorio di Giuda e nelle città di Efraim, che suo padre Asa aveva occupato.
3 Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat because he fol owed the example of his father's earlier days and didnot have recourse to Baal,	3 Il Signore fu con Giosafat, perché egli seguì la primitiva condotta di suo padre e non ricercò i Baal,

5 Because of this, Yahweh put him in secure control of the kingdom, while al Judah gave Jehoshaphatpresents until ample riches and honour were his.	5 Il Signore consolidò il regno in suo potere e tutto Giuda portava offerte a Giosafat, che ebbe ricchezza e gloria in abbondanza.
6 He was so enthusiastic about obeying Yahweh that once again he abolished the high places andsacred poles in Judah.	6 Il suo cuore si rafforzò nelle vie del Signore e rimosse anche le alture e i pali sacri da Giuda.
7 In the third year of his reign he sent his leading men-Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel andMicaiah, to give instruction in the towns of Judah.	7 Nel terzo anno del suo regno mandò i suoi capi Ben-Cail, Abdia, Zaccaria, Netaneèl, e Michea ad insegnare nelle città di Giuda.
8 With them went the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan,Adonijah and Tobijah, the Levites; Elishama and Jehoram the priests went with them.	8 Con essi c'erano i leviti Semaia, Natania, Zebadia, Asael, Semiraimot, Gionata, Adonia e Tobia con i sacerdoti Elisama e Ioram.
9 They gave instruction in Judah, having with them the book of the Law of Yahweh, and went round althe towns of Judah instructing the people.	9 Istruirono Giuda avendo con sé il libro della legge del Signore; essi percorsero tutte le città di Giuda istruendo il popolo.
10 A panic from Yahweh seized all the kings of the countries surrounding Judah, as a result of whichthey did not make war on Jehoshaphat.	10 Il terrore del Signore pervase tutti i regni delle regioni che circondavano Giuda, così che non mossero guerra a Giosafat.
11 Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and a load of silver and the Arabs brought himseven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.	11 Tra i Filistei ci furono di quelli che portarono a Giosafat tributi e argento in dono; anche gli Arabi gli portarono bestiame minuto: settemilasettecento montoni e settemilasettecento capri.
12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful. He built fortresses and storage towns in Judah.	12 Giosafat cresceva sempre più in potenza; egli costruì in Giuda castelli e città di approvvigionamento.
13 He accumulated ample supplies in the towns of Judah. He also had warriors, outstanding men, inJerusalem.	13 Aveva a disposizione molta mano d'opera nelle città di Giuda, e in Gerusalemme c'erano i guerrieri, uomini valorosi.
14 According to family, this is how they were classified: Over the commanders of the thousands ofJudah was General Adnah, who had three hundred thousand outstanding men;	14 Questo è il loro censimento secondo il casato: per Giuda i capi di migliaia erano Adna, il capo, e con lui trecentomila uomini valorosi;
15 Under him was General Jehohanan, who had two hundred and eighty thousand;	15 al suo fianco c'era Giovanni, il capo, e con lui duecentottantamila uomini.
16 Under him was Amasiah son of Zichri, who had volunteered for Yahweh and who had two hundredthousand outstanding men;	16 Al suo fianco c'era Amasia, figlio di Zicri, che si era votato al Signore, e con lui duecentomila uomini valorosi.
17 That outstanding soldier, Eliada, represented Benjamin, and he had two hundred thousand menarmed with bow and shield;	17 Per Beniamino c'era Eliada, uomo valoroso, e con lui duecentomila uomini armati di arco e di scudo.
18 And under him Jehozabad, who had one hundred and eighty thousand equipped for war.	18 Al suo fianco c'era Iozabad e con lui centottantamila uomini pronti per la guerra.
19 These were in attendance on the king, apart from those whom the king had stationed in the fortifiedtowns al over Judah.	19 Tutti questi erano al servizio del re, oltre a quelli che il re aveva stabilito nelle città fortificate in Giuda.
