1 When his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him, he made himself stronger against Israel	1 E succedette a lui nel regno Josaphat suo figliuolo, il quale fu superiore di forze ad Israele.
2 by stationing troops in al the fortified towns in Judah and by garrisoning Judah and the towns ofEphraim which his father Asa had captured.	2 E collocò un numero di soldati in tutte le città di Giuda cinte di muraglie. E pose dei presidj nella terra di Giuda, e nelle citta di Ephraim prese da Asa suo padre.
3 Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat because he fol owed the example of his father's earlier days and didnot have recourse to Baal,	3 E il Signore fu con Josaphat, perchè egli seguitò le prime orme di David suo padre: e non pose fidanza in Baalim;
4 but sought Yahweh, the God of his father, fol owing his commandments and not behaving as Israeldid.	4 Ma nel Dio del padre suo, e battè le vie de' suoi comandamenti, e non imitò i peccati d'Israele.
5 Because of this, Yahweh put him in secure control of the kingdom, while al Judah gave Jehoshaphatpresents until ample riches and honour were his.	5 E il Signore assicurò a lui il possesso del regno; e tutto Giuda offerse doni a Josaphat: ed egli acquistò ricchezze infinite, e molta gloria.
6 He was so enthusiastic about obeying Yahweh that once again he abolished the high places andsacred poles in Judah.	6 E rinfrancatosi a lui il cuore per ragion del culto del Signore, tolse dal paese di Giuda i luoghi eccelsi, e i boschetti.
7 In the third year of his reign he sent his leading men-Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel andMicaiah, to give instruction in the towns of Judah.	7 E l'anno terzo del suo regno spedi de' suoi magnati Benhail, e Obdia, e Zacharia, e Nathanael, e Michea? affinchè insegnassero nelle città di Giuda:
8 With them went the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan,Adonijah and Tobijah, the Levites; Elishama and Jehoram the priests went with them.	8 E con essi i Leviti, Semeia, e Nathania, e Zabadia, e Azael, e Semiramoth, e Jonathan, e Adonia, e Thobia,e Thobadonia, tutti Leviti, e i sacerdoti Elisama, e Joran;
9 They gave instruction in Judah, having with them the book of the Law of Yahweh, and went round althe towns of Judah instructing the people.	9 E istruivano questi il popolo di Giuda, portando seco il libro della legge del Signore, e andavano attorno per tutte le città di Giuda, e insegnavano al popolo.
10 A panic from Yahweh seized all the kings of the countries surrounding Judah, as a result of whichthey did not make war on Jehoshaphat.	10 Per la qual cosa i regni tutti confinanti con Giuda ebbero timor del Signore, e non ardivano di muover guerra a Josaphat.
11 Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and a load of silver and the Arabs brought himseven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.	11 E gli stessi Filistei offerivano doni a Josaphat, e un tributo in denaro; e anche gli Arabi gli menavano de' loro bestiami, e sette mila settecento castrati, e altrettanti capri.
12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful. He built fortresses and storage towns in Judah.	12 Così Josaphat si fece potente, e si elevò in grandezza: ed edificò in Giuda delle case a guisa di torri, e delle città murate.
13 He accumulated ample supplies in the towns of Judah. He also had warriors, outstanding men, inJerusalem.	13 E molte opere fece nella città di Giuda: e teneva anche in Gerusalemme un numero di combattenti di valore,
14 According to family, this is how they were classified: Over the commanders of the thousands ofJudah was General Adnah, who had three hundred thousand outstanding men;	14 Il numero de' quali egli è questo secondo le loro case, e famiglie: in Giuda capi dell'esercito (erano) Ednas, che avea sotto di se trecento mila uomini valorosissimi.
15 Under him was General Jehohanan, who had two hundred and eighty thousand;	15 Dopo di lui Johanan capitano, e sotto di lui dugento ottanta mila uomini.
16 Under him was Amasiah son of Zichri, who had volunteered for Yahweh and who had two hundredthousand outstanding men;	16 E dopo questo Amasia figliuolo di Zechri consagrato al Signore, e sotto di lui dugento mila uomini fortissimi.
17 That outstanding soldier, Eliada, represented Benjamin, and he had two hundred thousand menarmed with bow and shield;	17 Dietro a questo veniva Eliada gagliardo campione, e sotto di lui dugento mila uomini armati di scudo, e di arco.
18 And under him Jehozabad, who had one hundred and eighty thousand equipped for war.	18 Dopo di lui Jozabad, e sotto di lui cento ottanta mila uomini armati alla leggera.
19 These were in attendance on the king, apart from those whom the king had stationed in the fortifiedtowns al over Judah.	19 Tutti questi erano pronti al comando del re, senza contare quelli, che egli avea messi di presidio nelle città murate in tutto il paese di Giuda.
