1 The Philistines gave battle to Israel and the Israelites, fleeing from the Philistines, fel and wereslaughtered on Mount Gilboa.	1 Or i Filistei eran venuti alle mani con Israele, e gl'Israeliti furono messi in fuga, e ne morirono feriti (molti) sul monte Gelboe.
2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons.	2 E avanzandosi i Filistei nell'inseguire Saul, e i suoi figliuoli, uccisero Gionatha; e Abinadab, e Melchisua, figliuoli di Saul.
3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers.	3 E la zuffa divenne più atroce attorno a Saul, ed ei fu scoperto dagli arcieri, i quali lo feriron di freccia.
4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.	4 E Saul disse al suo scudiere: Sfodera la tua spada, e uccidimi, affinchè non vengano questi incirconcisi a farmi oltraggio. Ma lo scudiere pieno di spavento non volle far questo: Saul allora die di piglio alla spada, e gettossi sopra di essa.
5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him.	5 La qual cosa avendo veduta il suo scudiere, e veduto, che Saul era morto, egli pure gettossi sopra la sua spada, a morì.
6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together.	6 Perì adunque Saul, e tre figliuoli di lui, e tutta la sua famiglia parimente perì.
7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them.	7 La qual cosa avendo veduta gl'Israeliti, che abitavano nelle pianure, si diedero alla fuga: e morto Saul, e morti i suoi figliuoli, abbandonate le loro città, si spersero chi qua, chi là: e andarono i Filistei ad abitarvi.
8 When the Philistines came on the fol owing day to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons lyingon Mount Gilboa.	8 Ma il dì seguente i Filistei raccogliendo le spoglie degli uccisi, trovarono Saul, e i suoi figliuoli stesi sul monte di Gelboe.
9 They stripped him and, taking his head and his armour, had these carried round the territory of thePhilistines to proclaim the good news to their idols and their people.	9 E lo spogliarono, e tagliatagli la testa, e nudatolo della sua armatura, lo mandarono nel loro paese, perchè fosse portato attorno, e fatto vedere al la gente ne' templi de' loro idoli:
10 They placed his armour in the temple of their gods and nailed his head up in the temple of Dagon.	10 E le armi di lui le consagrarono al tempio del loro dio, e la testa la affissero al tempio di Dagon.
11 When al the inhabitants of Jabesh in Gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul,	11 Ma avendo udito gli uomini di Jabes di Galaad tutto quello, che i Filistei avean fatto al corpo di Saul,
12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days.	12 Si mossero un dietro all'altro tutti gli uomini di petto, e portaron via i cadaveri di Saul, e de' suoi figliuoli: e li recarono a Jabes, e seppellirono le ossa loro sotto la quercia di Jabes, e digiunarono sette giorni.
13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance.	13 Morì adunque Saul pelle sue iniquità; perocché egli non osservò i comandamenti intimati a lui dal Signore, e li trasgredì: e di più ancora consulto la Pitonissa,
14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse.	14 E non isperò nel Signore; il quale perciò lo fece morire, e trasferì il suo regno a Davidde figliuolo d'Isai.
