1 The Philistines gave battle to Israel and the Israelites, fleeing from the Philistines, fel and wereslaughtered on Mount Gilboa.	1 I Filistei attaccarono Israele, ma gli uomini d’Israele fuggirono davanti ai Filistei e caddero trafitti da loro sul monte Gèlboe.
2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons.	2 I Filistei inseguirono molto da vicino Saul e i suoi figli, e colpirono a morte Giònata, Abinadàb e Malchisùa, figli di Saul.
3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers.	3 La battaglia si concentrò intorno a Saul: gli arcieri lo presero di mira con gli archi ed egli fu ferito gravemente dagli arcieri.
4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.	4 Allora Saul disse al suo scudiero: «Sfodera la spada e trafiggimi, prima che vengano quegli incirconcisi a schernirmi». Ma lo scudiero non volle, perché era troppo spaventato. Allora Saul prese la spada e vi si gettò sopra.
5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him.	5 Quando lo scudiero vide che Saul era morto, si gettò anche lui sulla spada e morì.
6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together.	6 Così morì Saul con i suoi tre figli; tutta la sua famiglia morì insieme.
7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them.	7 Quando tutti gli Israeliti della valle videro che i loro erano in fuga e che erano morti Saul e i suoi figli, abbandonarono le loro città e fuggirono. Vennero i Filistei e vi si stabilirono.
8 When the Philistines came on the fol owing day to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons lyingon Mount Gilboa.	8 Il giorno dopo, i Filistei vennero a spogliare i cadaveri e trovarono Saul e i suoi figli caduti sul monte Gèlboe.
9 They stripped him and, taking his head and his armour, had these carried round the territory of thePhilistines to proclaim the good news to their idols and their people.	9 Lo spogliarono, presero la testa e le armi e mandarono a dare il felice annuncio in giro nella terra dei Filistei, ai loro idoli e al popolo.
10 They placed his armour in the temple of their gods and nailed his head up in the temple of Dagon.	10 Deposero le sue armi nel tempio del loro dio e appesero il suo teschio nel tempio di Dagon.
11 When al the inhabitants of Jabesh in Gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul,	11 Tutti gli abitanti di Iabes di Gàlaad vennero a sapere tutto quello che i Filistei avevano fatto a Saul.
12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days.	12 Tutti i loro guerrieri andarono a prendere il corpo di Saul e i corpi dei suoi figli e li portarono a Iabes; seppellirono le loro ossa sotto la quercia a Iabes e fecero digiuno per sette giorni.
13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance.	13 Così Saul morì a causa della sua infedeltà al Signore, perché non ne aveva ascoltato la parola e perché aveva evocato uno spirito per consultarlo.
14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse.	14 Non aveva consultato il Signore; per questo il Signore lo fece morire e trasferì il regno a Davide, figlio di Iesse.
