1 Chronicles 10

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 The Philistines gave battle to Israel and the Israelites, fleeing from the Philistines, fel and wereslaughtered on Mount Gilboa.	1 A filiszteusok azonban harcra keltek Izraellel, s Izrael emberei megfutamodtak a filiszteusok elől, s elhullottak sebeikben a Gilboa hegyén.
2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons.	2 Amikor aztán a filiszteusok, akik űzőbe vették Sault és fiait, közelebb kerültek, leütötték Jonatánt, Abinádábot és Melkisuát, Saul fiait.
3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers.	3 Majd Saul ellen fordult a harc heve, az íjászok rátaláltak és nyilaikkal megsebesítették.
4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.	4 Ekkor Saul azt mondta fegyverhordozójának: »Húzd ki kardodat s ölj meg, hogy ide ne találjanak jönni ezek a körülmetéletlenek s csúfot ne űzzenek belőlem.« Fegyverhordozója azonban nem akarta ezt megtenni, mert félelem szállta meg. Erre Saul megragadta a kardot és beledőlt.
5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him.	5 Mikor ezt fegyverhordozója látta, azt tudniillik, hogy Saul meghalt, maga is kardjába dőlt és meg is halt.
6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together.	6 Így pusztult el Saul és három fia s vele együtt összeomlott egész háza.
7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them.	7 Amikor ezt Izraelnek azok az emberei, akik a Mezőségen laktak, látták, megfutamodtak, és Saulnak és fiainak halála után elhagyták városaikat és szanaszét széledtek. Erre a filiszteusok odamentek s azokban is megtelepedtek.
8 When the Philistines came on the fol owing day to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons lyingon Mount Gilboa.	8 Másnap aztán a filiszteusok, miközben a megölteket fosztogatták, megtalálták Sault és fiait, elterülve a Gilboa hegyén.
9 They stripped him and, taking his head and his armour, had these carried round the territory of thePhilistines to proclaim the good news to their idols and their people.	9 Erre, miután kifosztották, fejét levágták, a fegyvereit leszedték és elküldték földjükre, hogy hordozzák körül és mutassák meg bálványaik templomaiban és a népnek.
10 They placed his armour in the temple of their gods and nailed his head up in the temple of Dagon.	10 Aztán elhelyezték fegyvereit istenük templomába, fejét pedig kitűzték Dágon templomában.
11 When al the inhabitants of Jabesh in Gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul,	11 Amikor ezt Jábes-Gileád emberei meghallották, mindazt tudniillik, amit a filiszteusok Saullal tettek,
12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days.	12 vitézlő embereik valamennyien felkerekedtek és elvették Saulnak és fiainak tetemét. Elvitték Jábesbe és eltemették csontjaikat a jábesi tölgyfa alatt. Aztán hétnapos böjtöt tartottak.
13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance.	13 Így halt meg Saul gonoszságai miatt, azért, mert megszegte s nem tartotta meg az Úr adott parancsát, meg azért, mert halottidéző asszonytól kért tanácsot
14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse.	14 s nem az Úrban bízott. Ezért ölte meg őt s ruházta át királyságát Dávidra, Izáj fiára.
