NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Jehoram son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned for twelve years.	1 Joram, hijo de Ajab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaría el año dieciocho de Josafat, rey de Judá, y reinó doce años.
2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, though not like his father and mother, for he did away with thepil ar to Baal which his father had made.	2 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh, pero no como su padre y como su madre, porque retiró la estela de Baal que su padre había hecho.
3 Nonetheless, he continued to practise the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel and didnot give them up.	3 Tan sólo que se adhirió a los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, que hizo pecar a Israel, y no se apartó de ellos.
4 Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-breeder and used to pay the king of Israel in tribute a hundredthousand lambs and a hundred thousand rams with their wool.	4 Mesá, rey de Moab, era pastor de ovejas y pagaba al rey de Israel 100.000 corderos y 100.000 carneros con su lana;
5 But when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebel ed against the king of Israel.	5 pero a la muerte de Ajab, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.
6 At once King Jehoram left Samaria and mustered al Israel.	6 Aquel día salió el rey Joram de Samaría y pasó revista a todo Israel.
7 After this he sent word to the king of Judah, 'The king of Moab has rebel ed against me. Wil you go towar with me against Moab?' 'I wil ,' he replied. 'I wil be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours,'	7 Fue y envió a decir a Josafat, rey de Judá: «El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí. ¿Quieres venir conmigo a la guerra contra Moab?» Respondió: «Subiré. Yo seré como tú; mi pueblo como tu pueblo, mis caballos como tus caballos».
8 and added, 'Which way are we to attack?' 'Through the desert of Edom,' the other answered.	8 Y preguntó: «¿Por qué camino subiremos?» Respondió: «Por el camino del desierto de Edom».
9 So they set out, the king of Israel, the king of Judah and the king of Edom. They carried out a flankingmovement for seven days, until there was no water left for the troops or for the beasts of their baggage train.	9 Fueron el rey de Israel, el rey de Judá y el rey de Edom; dieron un rodeo durante siete días y faltó el agua para el campamento y para las bestias de carga que les seguían.
10 'Alas!' the king of Israel exclaimed, 'Yahweh has summoned us three kings, only to put us into thepower of Moab.'	10 El rey de Israel dijo: «¡Ay! Que Yahveh ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de Moab!»
11 But the king of Judah said, 'Is there no prophet of Yahweh here for us to consult Yahweh through him?'One of the king of Israel's servants answered, 'Elisha son of Shaphat is here, who used to pour water on thehands of Elijah.'	11 Pero Josafat dijo: «¿No hay aquí algún profeta de Yahveh para que consultemos a Yahveh por su medio?» Respondió uno de los servidores del rey de Israel y dijo: «Esta aquí Eliseo, hijo de Safat, el que vertía el agua en manos de Elías».
12 'The word of Yahweh is with him,' the king of Judah said. So the king of Israel, the king of Judah andthe king of Edom went to consult him.	12 Dijo Josafat: «Con él está la palabra de Yahveh». Y bajaron donde él el rey de Israel, Josafat, y el rey de Edom.
13 But Elisha said to the king of Israel, 'What business have you with me? Go to your father's and yourmother's prophets.' 'No,' the king of Israel answered, 'Yahweh is the one who has summoned us three kings,only to put us into the power of Moab.' Elisha replied,	13 Dijo Eliseo al rey de Israel: «¿Qué tengo que ver yo contigo? ¡Vete a los profetas de tu padre y a los profetas de tu madre!» Respondió el rey de Israel: «Es que Yahveh ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de Moab».
14 'By the life of Yahweh Sabaoth whom I serve, if I did not respect the king of Judah, I would take nonotice of you, nor so much as look at you.	14 Dijo Eliseo: «Vive Yahveh Seboat a quien sirvo, que si no tuviera delante a Josafat, rey de Judá, no te atendería ni te miraría.
15 Now bring me someone who can play the lyre.' And as the musician played, the hand of Yahweh cameon him	15 Traedme, pues, un tañedor. Y sucedió que, mientras tocaba el tañedor, vino sobre él la mano de Yahveh,
16 and he said, 'Yahweh says this, "Dig in this val ey ditch after ditch,"	16 y dijo: «Así dice Yahveh: “Haced en este valle zanjas y más zanjas “,
17 for Yahweh says, "You wil see no wind, you will see no rain, but this val ey wil become ful of water,and you and your troops and your baggage animals will drink."	17 porque así, dice Yahveh: “No veréis viento y no veréis lluvia, pero este valle se llenará de agua y beberéis vosotros y vuestros campamentos y vuestros ganados. “
18 But this is only a trifle in Yahweh's eyes, for he wil put Moab itself into your power.	18 Y aún es poco esto a los ojos de Yahveh, pues entregaré a Moab en vuestras manos
19 You wil storm every fortified town, fell every productive tree, block every water-hole, ruin al the bestfields with stones.'	19 y heriréis a toda ciudad fuerte, talaréis todo árbol bueno, cegaréis todas las fuentes y devastaréis todos los campos fértiles cubriéndolos de piedra».
20 Next morning at the time when the oblation was being offered, water came from the direction of Edom,and the whole terrain was flooded.	20 A la mañana, a la hora de alzar la oblación, venían las aguas de la parte de Edom y la tierra se llenó de agua.
21 When the Moabites learned that the kings were advancing to fight them, al those of an age to beararms were mobilised; they took up position on the frontier.	21 Habiendo oído todo Moab que subían los reyes para hacerles la guerra, convocaron a todos, desde los que empezaban a ceñir espada en adelante, y se apostaron en la frontera.
22 In the morning when they got up, the sun was shining on the water; and in the distance the Moabitessaw the water as red as blood.	22 Al levantarse de mañana brillaba el sol sobre las aguas y los moabitas vieron enfrente las aguas rojas como la sangre,
23 'This is blood!' they said. 'The kings must have fought among themselves and killed one another. Sonow for the booty, Moab!'	23 y exclamaron: «Es sangre; sin duda los reyes se han matado entre sí y se han herido unos a otros. Conque ¡al botín, Moab!»
24 But when they reached the Israelite camp, the Israelites launched their attack and the Moabites fledbefore them, and as they advanced they cut the Moabites to pieces.	24 Cuando llegaron al campamento de Israel, se levantaron los israelitas y batieron a Moab, que huyó ante ellos; ellos avanzaron impetuosamente y derrotaron a Moab,
25 They laid the towns in ruins, and each man threw a stone into al the best fields to fil them up, and theyblocked every water-hole and felled every productive tree. In the end, there was only Kir-Hareseth left, which theslingers surrounded and bombarded.	25 destruyeron las ciudades, arrojaron sobre los mejores campos cada uno su piedra y los llenaron, cegaron todos los manantiales, talaron todo árbol bueno; sólo le quedaron sus piedras a Quir Jeres, y los honderos la cercaron y la batieron.
26 When the king of Moab saw that the battle had turned against him, he mustered seven hundredswordsmen in the hope of breaking a way out and going to the king of Aram, but he failed.	26 Viendo el rey de Moab que llevaba la parte peor de la batalla, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que tiraban de espada para abrir brecha hacía el rey de Aram, pero no pudieron.
27 Then he took his eldest son who was to succeed him and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wal .Alarmed at this, the Israelites withdrew and retired to their own territory.	27 Tomó entonces a su primogénito, el que había de reinar en su lugar, y lo alzó en holocausto sobre la muralla, y hubo gran cólera contra los israelitas, que se alejaron de allí volviendo al país.
