1 At that time Abijah, Jeroboam's son, fel sick,	1 In quel tempo Abia, figlio di Geroboamo, si ammalò.
2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, 'Come, please disguise yourself so that no one will recognise you asJeroboam's wife, and go to Shiloh; the prophet Ahijah is there, the man who said I was to be king of this people.	2 Geroboamo disse a sua moglie: "Lèvati, travestiti in modo che non si conosca che tu sei la moglie di Geroboamo e recati a Silo. 4 Jeroboam's wife did this: she set out, went to Shiloh and came to Ahijah's house.	4 La moglie di Geroboamo fece così; si levò, si recò a Silo ed entrò in casa di Achia. Ora Achia non poteva vedere perché i suoi occhi s'erano indeboliti a causa della vecchiaia.
5 Now Ahijah could not see, his eyes were fixed with age, but Yahweh had told him, 'Jeroboam's wife isnow on her way to ask you for a prophecy about her son, as he is sick. You wil tel her such and such. Whenshe comes, she wil pretend to be some other woman.'	5 Ma il Signore aveva detto ad Achia: "Ecco, la moglie di Geroboamo viene a domandarti un oracolo riguardo a suo figlio malato; tu le dirai così e così". 6 So when Ahijah heard her footsteps at the door, he cal ed, 'Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why pretend tobe someone else? 7 Go and tell Jeroboam, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: I raised you from the people and made youleader of my people Israel;	7 Va' a riferire a Geroboamo: "Così dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Io ti ho innalzato di mezzo al popolo e ti ho costituito capo sul mio popolo Israele;
8 I tore the kingdom from the House of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servantDavid who kept my commandments and followed me with al his heart, doing only what I regard as right;	8 ho strappato il regno dalla casa di Davide e l'ho dato a te, ma tu non sei stato come il mio servo Davide che ha custodito i miei precetti e mi ha seguito con tutto il cuore, facendo solo ciò che è retto ai miei occhi.
9 you have done more evil than all your predecessors, you have gone and made yourself other gods,idols of cast metal, provoking my anger, and you have turned your back on me.	9 Tu hai fatto peggio di tutti quelli che furono prima di te, poiché sei giunto a farti divinità straniere ed immagini fuse per irritarmi e hai gettato me dietro le tue spalle.
10 For this I shal bring disaster on the House of Jeroboam, I shal wipe out every manjack of the familyof Jeroboam, fettered or free in Israel, I shal sweep away the House of Jeroboam as a man sweeps dung awaytill none is left.	10 Perciò ecco che io farò piombare la sciagura sulla casa di Geroboamo: strapperò a Geroboamo ogni maschio, sia schiavo sia libero in Israele, e spazzerò la casa di Geroboamo come si spazza lo sterco fino alla sua scomparsa.
11 Those of Jeroboam's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the opencountry, the birds of the air wil eat, for Yahweh has spoken."	11 Chi della famiglia di Geroboamo morirà in città, sarà mangiato dai cani; chi morirà in campagna, sarà mangiato dagli uccelli del cielo, poiché il Signore ha parlato".
12 Now get up and go home; at the moment your feet enter the town, the child will die.	12 Ora, lèvati e va' a casa tua; appena porrai piede in città, morirà il fanciullo.
13 Al Israel wil mourn for him, and bury him; and he alone of Jeroboam's family will have a properburial, for in him alone of the House of Jeroboam can Yahweh, God of Israel, find anything good.	13 Tutto Israele farà il lamento funebre su di lui e gli si darà sepoltura; egli sarà l'unico della casa di Geroboamo che entrerà nel sepolcro perché in lui solo, nella casa di Geroboamo, il Signore Dio d'Israele ha trovato qualcosa di buono.
14 Yahweh wil set a king over Israel, who will put an end to the House of Jeroboam.	14 Il Signore poi si costituirà un re su Israele, il quale sterminerà la casa di Geroboamo.
15 Yahweh wil make Israel shake, til it quivers like a reed in the water; he will uproot Israel from thisprosperous land which he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the River for provoking Yahweh toanger by making their sacred poles.	15 Quindi il Signore sballotterà Israele come una canna agitata dall'onda, strapperà Israele da questa terra buona ch'egli diede ai loro padri e li disperderà oltre il Fiume, perché si fabbricarono i loro pali sacri che irritano il Signore.
16 He wil abandon Israel for the sins which Jeroboam has committed and made Israel commit.'	16 Egli abbandonerà Israele a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo ha commesso e ha fatto commettere ad Israele".
17 Jeroboam's wife rose and left. She arrived at Tirzah, and when she crossed the threshold of thepalace, the child was already dead.	17 La moglie di Geroboamo, levatasi, s'avviò e giunse a Tirza. Quando giunse sulla porta di casa, il giovane spirò.
18 They buried him, and al Israel mourned for him, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servantAhijah the prophet.	18 Lo seppellirono e tutto Israele fece il lamento funebre su di lui secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto per mezzo del suo servo Achia, il profeta.

20 Jeroboam's reign lasted twenty-two years. Then he fel asleep with his ancestors; his son Nadabsucceeded him.	20 Il tempo in cui regnò Geroboamo fu di ventidue anni. Egli si addormentò con i suoi antenati e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Nadàb.
21 In Judah, Rehoboam son of Solomon became king; he was forty-one years old when he came to thethrone and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of al the tribesof Israel, to give his name a home there. His mother's name was Naamah, the Ammonite.	21 Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, regnò in Giuda. Egli aveva quarantun anni quando divenne re e regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città che il Signore aveva eletto fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per porvi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naama l'ammonita.
22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, arousing his resentment more than his ancestors by al the sinswhich they had committed;	22 Giuda fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore: provocarono la sua gelosia più che non avessero fatto i loro antenati con tutti i peccati che avevano commesso.
23 they had built themselves high places, and had set up pil ars and sacred poles on every high hil andunder every spreading tree.	23 Anch'essi si costruirono alture, stele e pali sacri su tutti i colli elevati e sotto tutti gli alberi frondosi.
24 There were even male sacred prostitutes in the country. He copied all the shameful practices of thenations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	24 Nel paese ci furono persino i prostituti sacri. In una parola essi commisero tutte le abominazioni delle genti, che il Signore aveva cacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele.
25 And so it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt advanced onJerusalem	25 Nell'anno quinto del re Roboamo, Sisach, re d'Egitto, salì contro Gerusalemme.
26 and carried off all the treasures of the Temple of Yahweh and the treasures of the royal palace; hetook everything away, including al the golden shields which Solomon had made.	26 Prese i tesori del tempio del Signore e quelli del palazzo reale; portò via ogni cosa, persino gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone.
27 To replace those King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	27 In sostituzione il re Roboamo fece degli scudi di bronzo e li affidò in custodia ai capi delle guardie che custodivano la porta del palazzo reale.
28 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would carry them, returning them to theguardroom afterwards.	28 Ogni volta che il re entrava nel tempio del Signore, le guardie li prendevano e poi li riportavano nella camera delle guardie.
