1 Kings 14

1 At that time Abijah, Jeroboam's son, fel sick,	1 בעת ההיא חלה אביה בן ירבעם
2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, 'Come, please disguise yourself so that no one will recognise you asJeroboam's wife, and go to Shiloh; the prophet Ahijah is there, the man who said I was to be king of this people.	2 ויאמר ירבעם לאשתו קומי נא והשתנית ולא ידעו כי אתי אשת ירבעם והלכת שלה הנה שם אחיה הנביא הוא דבר עלי למלך על העם הזה
3 Go to him, and take ten loaves and some savoury food and a jar of honey; he wil tell you what wilhappen to the child.'	3 ולקחת בידך עשרה לחם ונקדים ובקבק דבש ובאת אליו הוא יגיד לך מה יהיה לנער
4 Jeroboam's wife did this: she set out, went to Shiloh and came to Ahijah's house.	4 ותעש כן אשת ירבעם ותקם ותלך שלה ותבא בית אחיה ואחיהו לא יכל לראות כי קמו עיניו משיבו
5 Now Ahijah could not see, his eyes were fixed with age, but Yahweh had told him, 'Jeroboam's wife isnow on her way to ask you for a prophecy about her son, as he is sick. You wil tel her such and such. Whenshe comes, she wil pretend to be some other woman.'	5 ויהוה אמר אל אחיהו הנה אשת ירבעם באה לדרש דבר מעמך אל בנה כי חלה הוא כזה וכזה תדבר אליה ויהי כבאה והיא מתנכרה
6 So when Ahijah heard her footsteps at the door, he cal ed, 'Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why pretend tobe someone else? I have bad news for you.	6 ויהי כשמע אחיהו את קול רגליה באה בפתח ויאמר באי אשת ירבעם למה זה את מתנכרה ואנכי שלוח אליך קשה
7 Go and tell Jeroboam, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: I raised you from the people and made youleader of my people Israel;	7 לכי אמרי לירבעם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל יען אשר הרימתיך מתוך העם ואתנך נגיד על עמי ישראל
8 I tore the kingdom from the House of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servantDavid who kept my commandments and followed me with al his heart, doing only what I regard as right;	8 ואקרע את הממלכה מבית דוד ואתנה לך ולא היית כעבדי דוד אשר שמר מצותי ואשר הלך אחרי בכל לבבו לעשות רק הישר בעיני
9 you have done more evil than all your predecessors, you have gone and made yourself other gods,idols of cast metal, provoking my anger, and you have turned your back on me.	9 ותרע לעשות מכל אשר היו לפניך ותלך ותעשה לך אלהים אחרים ומסכות להכעיסני ואתי השלכת אחרי גוך
10 For this I shal bring disaster on the House of Jeroboam, I shal wipe out every manjack of the familyof Jeroboam, fettered or free in Israel, I shal sweep away the House of Jeroboam as a man sweeps dung awaytill none is left.	10 לכן הנני מביא רעה אל בית ירבעם והכרתי לירבעם משתין בקיר עצור ועזוב בישראל ובערתי אחרי בית ירבעם כאשר יבער הגלל עד תמו
11 Those of Jeroboam's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the opencountry, the birds of the air wil eat, for Yahweh has spoken."	11 המת לירבעם בעיר יאכלו הכלבים והמת בשדה יאכלו עוף השמים כי יהוה דבר
12 Now get up and go home; at the moment your feet enter the town, the child will die.	12 ואת קומי לכי לביתך בבאה רגליך העירה ומת הילד
13 Al Israel wil mourn for him, and bury him; and he alone of Jeroboam's family will have a properburial, for in him alone of the House of Jeroboam can Yahweh, God of Israel, find anything good.	13 וספדו לו כל ישראל וקברו אתו כי זה לבדו יבא לירבעם אל קבר יען נמצא בו דבר טוב אל יהוה אלהי ישראל בבית ירבעם
14 Yahweh wil set a king over Israel, who will put an end to the House of Jeroboam.	14 והקים יהוה לו מלך על ישראל אשר יכרית את בית ירבעם זה היום ומה גם עתה
15 Yahweh wil make Israel shake, til it quivers like a reed in the water; he will uproot Israel from thisprosperous land which he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the River for provoking Yahweh toanger by making their sacred poles.	15 והכה יהוה את ישראל כאשר ינוד הקנה במים ונתש את ישראל מעל האדמה הטובה הזאת אשר נתן לאבותיהם וזרם מעבר לנהר יען אשר עשו את אשריהם מכעיסים את יהוה
16 He wil abandon Israel for the sins which Jeroboam has committed and made Israel commit.'	16 ויתן את ישראל בגלל חטאות ירבעם אשר חטא ואשר החטיא את ישראל
17 Jeroboam's wife rose and left. She arrived at Tirzah, and when she crossed the threshold of thepalace, the child was already dead.	17 ותקם אשת ירבעם ותלך ותבא תרצתה היא באה בסף הבית והנער מת
18 They buried him, and al Israel mourned for him, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servantAhijah the prophet.	18 ויקברו אתו ויספדו לו כל ישראל כדבר יהוה אשר דבר ביד עבדו אחיהו הנביא
19 The rest of the history of Jeroboam, what wars he waged, how he governed, this is recorded in theBook of the Annals of the Kings of Israel.	19 ויתר דברי ירבעם אשר נלחם ואשר מלך הנם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל
20 Jeroboam's reign lasted twenty-two years. Then he fel asleep with his ancestors; his son Nadabsucceeded him.	20 והימים אשר מלך ירבעם עשרים ושתים שנה וישכב עם אבתיו וימלך נדב בנו תחתיו
21 In Judah, Rehoboam son of Solomon became king; he was forty-one years old when he came to thethrone and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of al the tribesof Israel, to give his name a home there. His mother's name was Naamah, the Ammonite.	21 ורחבעם בן שלמה מלך ביהודה בן ארבעים ואחת שנה רחבעם במלכו ושבע עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם העיר אשר בחר יהוה לשום את שמו שם מכל שבטי ישראל ושם אמו נעמה העמנית
22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, arousing his resentment more than his ancestors by al the sinswhich they had committed;	22 ויעש יהודה הרע בעיני יהוה ויקנאו אתו מכל אשר עשו אבתם בחטאתם אשר חטאו
23 they had built themselves high places, and had set up pil ars and sacred poles on every high hil andunder every spreading tree.	23 ויבנו גם המה להם במות ומצבות ואשרים על כל גבעה גבהה ותחת כל עץ רענן
24 There were even male sacred prostitutes in the country. He copied all the shameful practices of thenations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	24 וגם קדש היה בארץ עשו ככל התועבת הגוים אשר הוריש יהוה מפני בני ישראל
25 And so it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt advanced onJerusalem	25 ויהי בשנה החמישית למלך רחבעם עלה שושק מלך מצרים על ירושלם
26 and carried off all the treasures of the Temple of Yahweh and the treasures of the royal palace; hetook everything away, including al the golden shields which Solomon had made.	26 ויקח את אצרות בית יהוה ואת אוצרות בית המלך ואת הכל לקח ויקח את כל מגני הזהב אשר עשה שלמה
27 To replace those King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	27 ויעש המלך רחבעם תחתם מגני נחשת והפקיד על יד שרי הרצים השמרים פתח בית המלך
28 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would carry them, returning them to theguardroom afterwards.	28 ויהי מדי בא המלך בית יהוה ישאום הרצים והשיבום אל תא הרצים
29 The rest of the history of Rehoboam, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annalsof the Kings of Judah?	29 ויתר דברי רחבעם וכל אשר עשה הלא המה כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה
30 Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	30 ומלחמה היתה בין רחבעם ובין ירבעם כל הימים
31 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijamsucceeded him.	31 וישכב רחבעם עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דוד ושם אמו נעמה העמנית וימלך אבים בנו תחתיו
