1 At that time Abijah, Jeroboam's son, fel sick,	1 In quel tempo si ammalò Abia, figlio di Geroboamo.
2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, 'Come, please disguise yourself so that no one will recognise you asJeroboam's wife, and go to Shiloh; the prophet Ahijah is there, the man who said I was to be king of this people.	2 Geroboamo disse a sua moglie: «Àlzati, cambia vestito perché non si sappia che tu sei la moglie di Geroboamo e va’ a Silo. Là c’è il profeta Achia, colui che mi disse che avrei regnato su questo popolo.
3 Go to him, and take ten loaves and some savoury food and a jar of honey; he wil tell you what wilhappen to the child.'	3 Prendi con te dieci pani, focacce e un vaso di miele; va’ da lui. Egli ti rivelerà che cosa avverrà del ragazzo».
4 Jeroboam's wife did this: she set out, went to Shiloh and came to Ahijah's house.	4 La moglie di Geroboamo fece così. Si alzò, andò a Silo ed entrò nella casa di Achia, il quale non poteva vedere, perché i suoi occhi erano offuscati per la vecchiaia.
5 Now Ahijah could not see, his eyes were fixed with age, but Yahweh had told him, 'Jeroboam's wife isnow on her way to ask you for a prophecy about her son, as he is sick. You wil tel her such and such. Whenshe comes, she wil pretend to be some other woman.'	5 Il Signore aveva detto ad Achia: «Ecco, la moglie di Geroboamo viene per chiederti un oracolo sul figlio, che è malato; tu le dirai questo e questo. Arriverà travestita».
6 So when Ahijah heard her footsteps at the door, he cal ed, 'Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why pretend tobe someone else? I have bad news for you.	6 Appena Achia sentì il rumore dei piedi di lei che arrivava alla porta, disse: «Entra, moglie di Geroboamo. Perché ti fingi un’altra? Io sono stato incaricato di annunciarti una dura notizia.
7 Go and tell Jeroboam, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: I raised you from the people and made youleader of my people Israel;	7 Su, riferisci a Geroboamo: Così dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele: “Io ti ho innalzato fra il popolo costituendoti capo del popolo d’Israele,
8 I tore the kingdom from the House of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servantDavid who kept my commandments and followed me with al his heart, doing only what I regard as right;	8 ho strappato il regno dalla casa di Davide e l’ho consegnato a te. Ma tu non sei stato come il mio servo Davide, che osservò i miei comandi e mi seguì con tutto il suo cuore, facendo solo ciò che è retto davanti ai miei occhi,
9 you have done more evil than all your predecessors, you have gone and made yourself other gods,idols of cast metal, provoking my anger, and you have turned your back on me.	9 anzi hai agito peggio di tutti quelli che furono prima di te e sei andato a fabbricarti altri dèi e immagini fuse per provocarmi, mentre hai gettato me dietro alle tue spalle.
10 For this I shal bring disaster on the House of Jeroboam, I shal wipe out every manjack of the familyof Jeroboam, fettered or free in Israel, I shal sweep away the House of Jeroboam as a man sweeps dung awaytill none is left.	10 Per questo, ecco, manderò la sventura sulla casa di Geroboamo, distruggerò nella casa di Geroboamo ogni maschio, schiavo o libero in Israele, e spazzerò la casa di Geroboamo come si spazza lo sterco fino alla sua totale scomparsa.
11 Those of Jeroboam's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the opencountry, the birds of the air wil eat, for Yahweh has spoken."	11 I cani divoreranno quanti della casa di Geroboamo moriranno in città; quelli morti in campagna li divoreranno gli uccelli del cielo, perché il Signore ha parlato”.
12 Now get up and go home; at the moment your feet enter the town, the child will die.	12 Ma tu àlzati, va’ a casa tua; quando i tuoi piedi raggiungeranno la città, il bambino morirà.
13 Al Israel wil mourn for him, and bury him; and he alone of Jeroboam's family will have a properburial, for in him alone of the House of Jeroboam can Yahweh, God of Israel, find anything good.	13 Ne faranno il lamento tutti gli Israeliti e lo seppelliranno; infatti soltanto lui della famiglia di Geroboamo entrerà in un sepolcro, perché in lui si è trovato qualcosa di buono da parte del Signore, Dio d’Israele, nella famiglia di Geroboamo.
14 Yahweh wil set a king over Israel, who will put an end to the House of Jeroboam.	14 Il Signore farà sorgere per sé un re sopra Israele, che distruggerà la famiglia di Geroboamo. Questo è quel giorno! Non è forse già adesso?
15 Yahweh wil make Israel shake, til it quivers like a reed in the water; he will uproot Israel from thisprosperous land which he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the River for provoking Yahweh toanger by making their sacred poles.	15 Inoltre il Signore percuoterà Israele, come una canna agitata dall’acqua. Eliminerà Israele da questa terra buona che ha dato ai loro padri e li disperderà oltre il Fiume, perché si sono eretti i loro pali sacri, provocando così il Signore.
16 He wil abandon Israel for the sins which Jeroboam has committed and made Israel commit.'	16 Il Signore abbandonerà Israele a causa dei peccati di Geroboamo, il quale peccò e fece peccare Israele».
17 Jeroboam's wife rose and left. She arrived at Tirzah, and when she crossed the threshold of thepalace, the child was already dead.	17 La moglie di Geroboamo si alzò e se ne andò a Tirsa. Proprio mentre lei varcava la soglia di casa, il ragazzo morì.
18 They buried him, and al Israel mourned for him, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servantAhijah the prophet.	18 Lo seppellirono e tutto Israele ne fece il lamento, secondo la parola del Signore comunicata per mezzo del suo servo, il profeta Achia.
19 The rest of the history of Jeroboam, what wars he waged, how he governed, this is recorded in theBook of the Annals of the Kings of Israel.	19 Le altre gesta di Geroboamo, le sue guerre e il suo regno, sono descritti nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele.
20 Jeroboam's reign lasted twenty-two years. Then he fel asleep with his ancestors; his son Nadabsucceeded him.	20 La durata del regno di Geroboamo fu di ventidue anni; egli si addormentò con i suoi padri e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Nadab.
21 In Judah, Rehoboam son of Solomon became king; he was forty-one years old when he came to thethrone and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of al the tribesof Israel, to give his name a home there. His mother's name was Naamah, the Ammonite.	21 Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, regnò in Giuda. Aveva quarantun anni quando divenne re e regnò diciassette anni a Gerusalemme, città scelta dal Signore fra tutte le tribù d’Israele per collocarvi il suo nome. Sua madre, ammonita, si chiamava Naamà.
22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, arousing his resentment more than his ancestors by al the sinswhich they had committed;	22 Giuda fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; essi provocarono il Signore a gelosia più di quanto avevano fatto i loro padri, con i peccati da loro commessi.
23 they had built themselves high places, and had set up pil ars and sacred poles on every high hil andunder every spreading tree.	23 Anch’essi si costruirono alture, stele e pali sacri su ogni alto colle e sotto ogni albero verde.
24 There were even male sacred prostitutes in the country. He copied all the shameful practices of thenations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	24 Inoltre nella terra c’erano prostituti sacri. Essi commisero tutti gli abomini dei popoli che il Signore aveva scacciato davanti agli Israeliti.
25 And so it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt advanced onJerusalem	25 Nell’anno quinto del re Roboamo, il re d’Egitto, Sisak, salì contro Gerusalemme.
26 and carried off all the treasures of the Temple of Yahweh and the treasures of the royal palace; hetook everything away, including al the golden shields which Solomon had made.	26 Prese i tesori del tempio del Signore e i tesori della reggia, portò via tutto, prese anche gli scudi d’oro fatti da Salomone.
27 To replace those King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	27 Il re Roboamo li sostituì con scudi di bronzo, che affidò ai comandanti delle guardie addette alle porte della reggia.
28 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would carry them, returning them to theguardroom afterwards.	28 Ogni volta che il re andava nel tempio del Signore, le guardie li prendevano, poi li riportavano nella sala delle guardie.

30 Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	30 Ci fu guerra continua fra Roboamo e Geroboamo.
31 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijamsucceeded him.	31 Roboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con i suoi padri nella Città di Davide. Sua madre, ammonita, si chiamava Naamà. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Abiam.
