1 The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame and came to test him with difficult questions.	1 La renommée de Salomon arriva jusqu’à la reine de Saba; elle vint le mettre à l’épreuve sur des énigmes de sagesse.
2 She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large retinue, with camels laden with spices and an immensequantity of gold and precious stones. Having reached Solomon, she discussed with him everything that she hadin mind,	2 Elle entra dans Jérusalem avec un cortège considérable, des chameaux portant des aromates, de l’or en très grande quantité, des pierres précieuses. Lorsqu’elle fut introduite auprès de Salomon, elle lui dit tout ce qu’elle avait en tête.
3 and Solomon had an answer for al her questions; not one of them was too obscure for the king toanswer for her.	3 Salomon répondit à toutes ses questions: rien n’était caché pour le roi, rien ne resta sans réponse.
4 When the queen of Sheba saw how very wise Solomon was, the palace which he had built,	4 La reine de Saba put voir l’ordre instauré par Salomon: le palais qu’il avait construit,
5 the food at his table, the accommodation for his officials, the organisation of his staff and the way theywere dressed, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings which he presented in the Temple of Yahweh, it left herbreathless,	5 le menu de sa table, les appartements de ses serviteurs, les costumes de ses ministres, les vêtements des échansons, les holocaustes qu’il offrait dans la Maison de Yahvé; elle en eut le souffle coupé.
6 and she said to the king, 'The report I heard in my own country about your wisdom in handling youraffairs was true then!	6 Elle dit alors au roi: “Tout ce que j’ai entendu dire dans mon pays à propos de toi et de ta sagesse était donc vrai!
7 Until I came and saw for myself, I did not believe the reports, but clearly I was told less than half: forwisdom and prosperity, you surpass what was reported to me.	7 Je n’en croyais pas le récit avant d’avoir vu de mes yeux, mais c’est un fait qu’on ne m’en avait pas dit la moitié. Tu dépasses en sagesse et en gloire ce que la renommée m’avait appris.
8 How fortunate your wives are! How fortunate these courtiers of yours, continual y in attendance on youand listening to your wisdom!	8 “Heureuses tes femmes, heureux tes serviteurs qui sont continuellement devant toi et qui entendent tes sages décisions.
9 Blessed be Yahweh your God who has shown you his favour by setting you on the throne of Israel!Because of Yahweh's everlasting love for Israel, he has made you king to administer law and justice.'	9 Béni soit Yahvé, ton Dieu, qui t’a choisi pour te placer sur le trône d’Israël! Yahvé aime Israël à tout jamais et c’est pour cela qu’il t’a établi comme roi, pour que tu fasses régner le droit et la justice.”
10 And she presented the king with a hundred and twenty talents of gold and great quantities of spicesand precious stones; no such wealth of spices ever came again as those which the queen of Sheba gave to KingSolomon.	10 Elle donna au roi 120 talents d’or, des aromates en très grande quantité et des pierres précieuses; on n’a jamais vu arriver une telle quantité d’aromates comme ce que la reine de Saba donna au roi Salomon.
11 Similarly, Hiram's fleet, which brought the gold from Ophir, also brought back great cargoes of almugtimber and precious stones.	11 La flotte de Hiram qui avait amené l’or d’Ofir, avait rapporté aussi du bois de santal en très grande quantité, ainsi que des pierres précieuses.
12 Of the almug timber the king made supports for the Temple of Yahweh and for the royal palace, andharps and lyres for the musicians; no more of this almug timber has since come or been seen to this day.	12 Avec le bois de santal le roi fit une balustrade pour la Maison de Yahvé, et une autre pour son palais. Il fit également avec ce bois des cithares et des harpes pour les musiciens; on n’a plus jamais vu une telle quantité de bois de santal.
13 And King Solomon, in his turn, presented the queen of Sheba with everything that she expressed awish for, besides those presents which he gave her with a munificence worthy of King Solomon. After which, shewent home to her own country, she and her servants.	13 Le roi Salomon donna à la reine de Saba tout ce qu’elle pouvait désirer, tout ce qu’elle demanda, sans compter les cadeaux qu’il lui fit avec une générosité royale; elle s’en retourna ensuite et repartit vers son pays avec ses serviteurs.
14 The weight of gold received annually by Solomon amounted to six hundred and sixty-six talents ofgold,	14 En une seule année on apportait à Salomon 666 talents d’or,
15 besides what tol s and foreign trade, as well as everything the Arab kings and the provincial governorsbrought in.	15 sans compter les taxes des voyageurs, les impôts des commerçants et tout ce qui venait des rois d’Arabie et des gouverneurs du pays.
16 King Solomon made two hundred great shields of beaten gold, six hundred shekels of gold going intoone shield;	16 Le roi Salomon fit 200 grands boucliers d’or; on utilisa pour chaque bouclier 600 sicles d’or.
17 also three hundred small shields of beaten gold, three mina of gold going into one shield; and the kingput these into the House of the Forest of Lebanon.	17 Il fit également 300 petits boucliers d’or pour lesquels on employa trois mines d’or par bouclier; le roi les plaça dans la maison de la Forêt-du-Liban.
18 The king also made a great ivory throne which he overlaid with refined gold.	18 Le roi fit encore un grand trône d’ivoire revêtu d’or fin.
19 The throne had six steps, a back with a rounded top, and arms on each side of the seat; two lionsstood beside the arms,	19 Le trône avait 6 marches, c’était un fauteuil avec un dossier arrondi et, sur les deux côtés du siège, des bras qui s’appuyaient sur des lions.
20 and twelve lions stood on each side of the six steps. Nothing like it has ever been made in any otherkingdom.	20 Il y avait également 12 lions qui se tenaient de chaque côté sur les 6 marches du trône; dans aucun royaume on n’a fait chose semblable.
21 Al King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and al the plate in the House of the Forest ofLebanon was of pure gold; silver was little thought of in Solomon's days,	21 Toutes les coupes du roi Salomon étaient en or, ainsi que tous les objets de la maison de la Forêt-du-Liban; rien n’était en argent, on le considérait même sans valeur aux jours de Salomon.
22 since the king had a fleet of Tarshish at sea with Hiram's fleet, and once every three years the fleet ofTarshish would come back laden with gold and silver, ivory, apes and baboons.	22 Salomon avait sur mer, avec la flotte de Hiram, des navires pour expéditions lointaines. Tous les trois ans la flotte revenait d’outremer, apportant de l’or, de l’argent, des ivoires, des singes et des paons.
23 For riches and for wisdom, King Solomon surpassed al kings on earth,	23 Le roi Salomon dépassa tous les rois de la terre en richesse et en sagesse.
24 and the whole world consulted Solomon to hear the wisdom which God had implanted in his heart;	24 Tout le monde voulait être reçu en audience par Salomon et entendre la sagesse que Dieu lui avait donnée.
25 and everyone would bring a present with him: things made of silver, things made of gold, robes,armour, spices, horses and mules; and this went on year after year.	25 Chacun amenait son cadeau, objets d’argent et objets d’or, vêtements, armures, parfums, chevaux et mulets; et cela d’année en année.
26 Solomon then built up a force of chariots and cavalry; he had one thousand four hundred chariots andtwelve thousand horses, these he stationed in the chariot towns and near the king in Jerusalem.	26 Salomon acquit un grand nombre de chars et des cavaliers; il les établit dans les villes de chars et à Jérusalem auprès du roi.
27 In Jerusalem the king made silver as common as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful as sycamore inthe lowlands.	27 Le roi fit si bien qu’à Jérusalem l’argent était aussi commun que les pierres, et les cèdres aussi nombreux que les sycomores dans le Bas-Pays.
28 Solomon's horses were imported from Muzur and Cilicia. The king's dealers acquired them fromCilicia at the prevailing price.	28 Les chevaux de Salomon venaient de Mousour et de Cilicie; les marchands du roi les achetaient en Cilicie et les faisaient venir.
29 A chariot was imported from Egypt for six hundred silver shekels and a horse from Cilicia for ahundred and fifty. They also supplied the Hittite and Aramaean kings, who al used them as middlemen.	29 Un char importé de Mousour coûtait 600 pièces d’argent, et un cheval 150; on en exportait ainsi pour les rois des Hittites et les rois d’Aram.
