1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 - Ai tempi di Davide vi fu anche una carestia per tre anni continui; allora Davide consultò l'oracolo del Signore, il quale gli rispose: «Questo è a causa di Saul e della sua casa sanguinaria, perchè ha ucciso i Gabaoniti».
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 Chiamati allora quei di Gabaon, il re parlò loro. (I Gabaoniti non appartenevano ai figli d'Israele, ma erano un avanzo degli Amorrei, coi quali i figli d'Israele aveano fatto giuramento, e Saul aveva voluto ucciderli per zelo e quasi a vantaggio dei figli d'Israele e di Giuda).
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 Disse dunque Davide ai Gabaoniti: «Che farò io per voi? E quale soddisfazione darò a voi, perchè voi benediciate l'eredità del Signore?».
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 I Gabaoniti gli risposero: «Non facciamo questione nè di oro nè di argento; ma [è una questione] contro Saul e la sua casa; e non vogliamo che si uccida alcun uomo d'Israele». E il re domandò loro: «Che cosa volete dunque che io faccia per voi?».
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 Quelli risposero al re: «L'uomo che ci ha schiacciati e oppressi iniquamente deve essere sterminato in guisa che in tutto il territorio di Israele non resti neppur uno della sua stirpe.
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 Si diano a noi sette uomini dei figli di lui, perchè noi li crocifiggiamo al Signore in Gabaa di Saul, che fu già l'eletto del Signore». E il re rispose: «Li darò».
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 Risparmiò il re Mifiboset figlio di Gionata, figlio di Saul, per il giuramento che avevano fatto Davide e Gionata figlio di Saul.
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 Prese pertanto il re i due figli di Resfa, da lei generati a Saul, Armoni e Mifiboset e i cinque figli della figlia di Saul, Micol, da lei generati ad Adriele, figliuolo di Berzellai, oriundo di Molati,
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 e li consegnò nelle mani dei Gabaoniti, che li crocifissero in Gabaa innanzi al Signore. Così morirono questi sette, uccisi simultaneamente ai primi giorni della mèsse quando cominciava la raccolta dell'orzo.
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 Resfa figlia di Aia, preso un cilicio, lo stese sopra una pietra e stette là dal principio della mietitura fino a che non cadde sopra di essi acqua dal cielo e impedì che venissero a lacerarli gli uccelli di giorno oppure le fiere di notte.
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 Fu riferito a Davide ciò che aveva fatto Resfa figlia di Aia, concubina di Saul.
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 E Davide andò e prese le ossa di Saul e di Gionata suo figlio dagli uomini di Jabes di Galaad, i quali le avevano portate via dalla piazza di Betsan, dove furono appese dai Filistei dopo avere ucciso Saul a Gelboe.
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 Riportò di là le ossa di Saul e quelle di Gionata figliuolo di lui e, raccolte le ossa di quelli che furono crocifissi,
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 le fece seppellire insieme ai resti di Saul e di Gionata figlio di lui nel paese di Beniamino, da un lato, nel sepolcro di Cis loro antenato. E fu fatto tutto quello che il re aveva comandato, e dopo ciò Iddio si placò verso il paese.
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 Si fece ancora una guerra dai Filistei contro Israele; e Davide coi suoi servi discese e combattè contro i Filistei. Essendo Davide assai stanco,
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 Jesbibenob, della stirpe di Arafa, il cui ferro dell'asta pesava trecento once e che era cinto di una spada nuova, tentò percuotere Davide;
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 ma accorso in suo aiuto, Abisai figliuolo di Sarvia percosse il Filisteo e lo uccise. Allora i soldati di Davide fecero un giuramento, dicendogli: «D'ora innanzi non verrai più con noi alla guerra, perchè non si estingua la lucerna d'Israele».
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 Si ebbe ancora una seconda guerra a Gob contro i Filistei, nella quale Sobocai di Usati uccise Saf, della razza di Arafa discendente dai giganti.
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 Vi fu ancora una terza guerra in Gob contro i Filistei e Adeodato figlio di Salto, tessitore a diversi colori, di Betleem, uccise Golia di Get, che avea una lancia il cui legno era come il subbio dei tessitori.
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 Una quarta guerra ebbe luogo in Get, dove si trovò un uomo di alta statura, che avea sei dita alle mani e ai piedi, vale a dire ventiquattro dita. Era anch'egli della razza di Arafa,
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 e avendo insultato Israele fu percosso da Gionata figlio di Samaa fratello di Davide.
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 Questi quattro erano della stirpe di Arafa in Get e caddero tutti per mano di Davide e de' suoi servi.
