2 Samuel 21

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 Au temps de David, il y eut une famine pendant trois ans de suite. David s'enquit auprès deYahvé, et Yahvé dit: "Il y a du sang sur Saül et sur sa famille, parce qu'il a mis à mort les Gabaonites."
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 Le roi convoqua les Gabaonites et leur dit. -- Ces Gabaonites n'étaient pas des Israélites, ilsétaient un reste des Amorites, envers qui les Israélites s'étaient engagés par serment. Mais Saül avait cherché àles abattre dans son zèle pour les Israélites et pour Juda. --
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 Donc David dit aux Gabaonites: "Que faut-il vous faire et comment réparer, pour que vousbénissiez l'héritage de Yahvé?"
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 Les Gabaonites lui répondirent: "Il ne s'agit pas pour nous d'une affaire d'argent ou d'or avec Saület sa famille, et il ne s'agit pas pour nous d'un homme à tuer en Israël." David dit: "Ce que vous direz, je le feraipour vous."
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 Ils dirent alors au roi: "L'homme qui nous a exterminés et qui avait projeté de nous anéantir, pourque nous ne subsistions plus dans tout le territoire d'Israël,
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 qu'on nous livre sept de ses fils et nous les démembrerons devant Yahvé à Gabaôn, sur lamontagne de Yahvé." Et le roi dit: "Je les livrerai."
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 Le roi épargna Meribbaal fils de Jonathan fils de Saül, à cause du serment par Yahvé qui les liait,David et Jonathan fils de Saül.
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 Le roi prit les deux fils que Riçpa, fille d'Ayya, avait donnés à Saül, Armoni et Meribbaal, et lescinq fils que Mérab fille de Saül avait donnés à Adriel fils de Barzillaï, de Mehola.
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 Il les livra aux mains des Gabaonites et ceux-ci les démembrèrent sur la montagne, devantYahvé. Les sept succombèrent ensemble; ils furent mis à mort aux premiers jours de la moisson, au début de lamoisson des orges.
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 Riçpa, fille d'Ayya, prit le sac et l'étendit pour elle sur le rocher, depuis le début de la moissondes orges jusqu'à ce que l'eau tombât du ciel sur eux, et elle ne laissa pas s'abattre sur eux les oiseaux du cielpendant le jour ni les bêtes sauvages pendant la nuit.
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 On informa David de ce qu'avait fait Riçpa, fille d'Ayya, la concubine de Saül.
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 Alors David alla réclamer les ossements de Saül et ceux de son fils Jonathan aux notables deYabesh de Galaad. Ceux-ci les avaient enlevés de l'esplanade de Bet-Shân, où les Philistins les avaientsuspendus, quand les Philistins avaient vaincu Saül à Gelboé.
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 David emporta de là les ossements de Saül et ceux de son fils Jonathan et les réunit auxossements des suppliciés.
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 On ensevelit les ossements de Saül, ceux de son fils Jonathan et ceux des suppliciés au pays deBenjamin, à Céla, dans le tombeau de Qish, père de Saül. On fit tout ce que le roi avait ordonné et, après cela,Dieu eut pitié du pays.
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 Il y eut encore une guerre des Philistins contre Israël. David descendit avec sa garde. Ilscombattirent les Philistins, et David était fatigué.
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 Il y avait un champion d'entre les descendants de Rapha. Le poids de sa lance était de 300 siclesde bronze, il était ceint d'une épée neuve et il se vantait de tuer David.
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 Mais Abishaï fils de Ceruya vint au secours de celui-ci, frappa le Philistin et le mit à mort. C'estalors que les hommes de David le conjurèrent et dirent: "Tu n'iras plus avec nous au combat, pour que tun'éteignes pas la lampe d'Israël!"
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 Après cela, la guerre reprit à Gob avec les Philistins. C'est alors que Sibbekaï de Husha tuaSaph, un descendant de Rapha.
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 La guerre reprit encore à Gob avec les Philistins, et Elhanân, fils de Yaïr, de Bethléem, tuaGoliath de Gat; le bois de sa lance était comme un liais de tisserand.
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 Il y eut encore un combat à Gat et il se trouva là un homme de grande taille, qui avait six doigtsà chaque main et à chaque pied, 24 doigts au total. Il était, lui aussi, un descendant de Rapha.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 Comme il défiait Israël, Yehonatân, fils de Shiméa, frère de David, l'abattit.
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 Ces quatre-là étaient descendants de Rapha à Gat et ils succombèrent sous la main de David etde ses gardes.
