2 Samuel 21

NEW JERUSALEM	LXX
1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 και εγενετο λιμος εν ταις ημεραις δαυιδ τρια ετη ενιαυτος εχομενος ενιαυτου και εζητησεν δαυιδ το προσωπον του κυριου και ειπεν κυριος επι σαουλ και επι τον οικον αυτου αδικια δια το αυτον θανατω αιματων περι ου εθανατωσεν τους γαβαωνιτας
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 και εκαλεσεν ο βασιλευς δαυιδ τους γαβαωνιτας και ειπεν προς αυτους και οι γαβαωνιται ουχ υιοι ισραηλ εισιν οτι αλλ' η εκ του λειμματος του αμορραιου και οι υιοι ισραηλ ωμοσαν αυτοις και εζητησεν σαουλ παταξαι αυτους εν τω ζηλωσαι αυτον τους υιους ισραηλ και ιουδα
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 και ειπεν δαυιδ προς τους γαβαωνιτας τι ποιησω υμιν και εν τινι εξιλασομαι και ευλογησετε την κληρονομιαν κυριου
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 και ειπαν αυτω οι γαβαωνιται ουκ εστιν ημιν αργυριον και χρυσιον μετα σαουλ και μετα του οικου αυτου και ουκ εστιν ημιν ανηρ θανατωσαι εν ισραηλ και ειπεν τι υμεις λεγετε και ποιησω υμιν
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 και ειπαν προς τον βασιλεα ο ανηρ συνετελεσεν εφ' ημας και εδιωξεν ημας ος παρελογισατο εξολεθρευσαι ημας αφανισωμεν αυτον του μη εσταναι αυτον εν παντι οριω ισραηλ
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 δοτω ημιν επτα ανδρας εκ των υιων αυτου και εξηλιασωμεν αυτους τω κυριω εν γαβαων σαουλ εκλεκτους κυριου και ειπεν ο βασιλευς εγω δωσω
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 και εφεισατο ο βασιλευς επι μεμφιβοσθε υιον ιωναθαν υιου σαουλ δια τον ορκον κυριου τον ανα μεσον αυτων ανα μεσον δαυιδ και ανα μεσον ιωναθαν υιου σαουλ
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 και ελαβεν ο βασιλευς τους δυο υιους ρεσφα θυγατρος αια ους ετεκεν τω σαουλ τον ερμωνι και τον μεμφιβοσθε και τους πεντε υιους μιχολ θυγατρος σαουλ ους ετεκεν τω εσριηλ υιω βερζελλι τω μοουλαθι
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 και εδωκεν αυτους εν χειρι των γαβαωνιτων και εξηλιασαν αυτους εν τω ορει εναντι κυριου και επεσαν οι επτα αυτοι επι το αυτο και αυτοι δε εθανατωθησαν εν ημεραις θερισμου εν πρωτοις εν αρχη θερισμου κριθων
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 και ελαβεν ρεσφα θυγατηρ αια τον σακκον και επηξεν αυτη προς την πετραν εν αρχη θερισμου κριθων εως εσταξεν επ' αυτους υδωρ εκ του ουρανου και ουκ εδωκεν τα πετεινα του ουρανου καταπαυσαι επ' αυτους ημερας και τα θηρια του αγρου νυκτος
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 και απηγγελη τω δαυιδ οσα εποιησεν ρεσφα θυγατηρ αια παλλακη σαουλ και εξελυθησαν και κατελαβεν αυτους δαν υιος ιωα εκ των απογονων των γιγαντων
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 και επορευθη δαυιδ και ελαβεν τα οστα σαουλ και τα οστα ιωναθαν του υιου αυτου παρα των ανδρων υιων ιαβις γαλααδ οι εκλεψαν αυτους εκ της πλατειας βαιθσαν οτι εστησαν αυτους εκει οι αλλοφυλοι εν ημερα η επαταξαν οι αλλοφυλοι τον σαουλ εν γελβουε
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 και ανηνεγκεν εκειθεν τα οστα σαουλ και τα οστα ιωναθαν του υιου αυτου και συνηγαγεν τα οστα των εξηλιασμενων
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 και εθαψαν τα οστα σαουλ και τα οστα ιωναθαν του υιου αυτου και των ηλιασθεντων εν γη βενιαμιν εν τη πλευρα εν τω ταφω κις του πατρος αυτου και εποιησαν παντα οσα ενετειλατο ο βασιλευς και επηκουσεν ο θεος τη γη μετα ταυτα
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 και εγενηθη ετι πολεμος τοις αλλοφυλοις μετα ισραηλ και κατεβη δαυιδ και οι παιδες αυτου μετ' αυτου και επολεμησαν μετα των αλλοφυλων και εξελυθη δαυιδ
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 και ιεσβι ος ην εν τοις εκγονοις του ραφα και ο σταθμος του δορατος αυτου τριακοσιων σικλων ολκη χαλκου και αυτος περιεζωσμενος κορυνην και διενοειτο παταξαι τον δαυιδ
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 και εβοηθησεν αυτω αβεσσα υιος σαρουιας και επαταξεν τον αλλοφυλον και εθανατωσεν αυτον τοτε ωμοσαν οι ανδρες δαυιδ λεγοντες ουκ εξελευση ετι μεθ' ημων εις πολεμον και ου μη σβεσης τον λυχνον ισραηλ
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 και εγενηθη μετα ταυτα ετι πολεμος εν γεθ μετα των αλλοφυλων τοτε επαταξεν σεβοχα ο αστατωθι τον σεφ τον εν τοις εκγονοις του ραφα
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 και εγενετο ο πολεμος εν γοβ μετα των αλλοφυλων και επαταξεν ελεαναν υιος αριωργιμ ο βαιθλεεμιτης τον γολιαθ τον γεθθαιον και το ξυλον του δορατος αυτου ως αντιον υφαινοντων
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 και εγενετο ετι πολεμος εν γεθ και ην ανηρ μαδων και οι δακτυλοι των χειρων αυτου και οι δακτυλοι των ποδων αυτου εξ και εξ εικοσι τεσσαρες αριθμω και γε αυτος ετεχθη τω ραφα
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 και ωνειδισεν τον ισραηλ και επαταξεν αυτον ιωναθαν υιος σεμει αδελφου δαυιδ
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 οι τεσσαρες ουτοι ετεχθησαν απογονοι των γιγαντων εν γεθ τω ραφα οικος και επεσαν εν χειρι δαυιδ και εν χειρι των δουλων αυτου
