1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 Sous le règne de David, il y eut une famine qui dura trois ans. David consulta Yahvé, et Yahvé répondit: “Il y a du sang sur Saül et sur sa famille parce que Saül a mis à mort les Gabaonites.”
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 De fait, ces Gabaonites n’étaient pas des Israélites, ils descendaient des anciens Amorites mais les Israélites s’étaient engagés envers eux par serment. Malgré cela, Saül avait cherché à les détruire dans son zèle pour Israël et pour Juda. David convoqua donc les Gabaonites,
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 il leur dit: “Que devons-nous faire pour réparer, pour que vous bénissiez l’héritage de Yahvé?”
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 Les Gabaonites répondirent: “Ce n’est pas une question d’argent ou d’or avec Saül et sa famille, et nous ne cherchons pas non plus de victimes en Israël.” David leur dit: “Je ferai pour vous ce que vous me direz.”
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 Ils répondirent au roi: “Un homme nous a massacrés, il voulait nous détruire et nous faire disparaître du territoire d’Israël.
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 Qu’on nous livre aujourd’hui sept de ses fils, nous les pendrons devant Yahvé à Gabaon, sur la montagne de Yahvé.” Le roi leur dit: “Je vous les livrerai.”
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 Cependant le roi épargna Méribaal, le fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment qu’il avait prêté à Jonathan, fils de Saül, devant Yahvé.
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 Rispa, fille d’Ayya, avait donné deux fils à Saül: Armoni et Méribaal. Mérab, fille de Saül, avait donné à Adriel, fils de Barzillaï, de Méhola, cinq fils. David les fit prendre
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 et livrer aux Gabaonites, et ceux-ci les pendirent sur la montagne devant Yahvé; les sept moururent ensemble. Ils furent mis à mort au premier jour de la moisson, au début de la moisson des orges.
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 Rispa fille d’Ayya prit un sac, elle l’étendit pour elle sur le rocher et, depuis le début de la moisson jusqu’au temps des premières pluies, elle empêcha les oiseaux du ciel de se poser sur eux durant le jour, et les bêtes sauvages durant la nuit.
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 On apprit à David ce que Rispa, fille d’Ayya et concubine de Saül, avait fait.
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 Alors David alla chercher les ossements de Saül et ceux de son fils Jonathan chez les gens de Yabech de Galaad. En effet, les Philistins avaient pendu leurs corps sur la place de Beth-Chéan après leur victoire sur Saül à Guelboé, mais les gens de Yabech de Galaad les avaient dérobés.
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 David ramena donc les ossements de Saül et ceux de Jonathan, puis on recueillit les ossements de ceux que l’on avait pendus,
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 et on enterra les ossements de Saül dans le tombeau de son père Kich, à Séla, au pays de Benjamin. On y déposa également les ossements de son fils Jonathan et ceux des pendus. On fit tout ce que le roi avait ordonné, après quoi Dieu eut pitié du pays.
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 La guerre reprit entre les Philistins et Israël, David descendit avec sa garde pour combattre les Philistins. Au moment où David était fatigué,
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 un descendant de Rafa appelé Ichbo-Bénob prétendit l’abattre. Il portait une lance de bronze pesant 300 sicles, et il avait une épée toute neuve.
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 Mais Abisaï fils de Sérouya vint au secours de David, il frappa le Philistin et le tua. Alors les hommes de David insistèrent auprès de lui: “Tu ne viendras pas avec nous au combat, il ne faut pas que s’éteigne la lampe d’Israël.”
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 Après cela il y eut encore une bataille à Gob avec les Philistins; c’est là que Sibékaï de Houcha tua un descendant de Rafa nommé Saf.
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 La guerre reprit de nouveau à Gob avec les Philistins, Elhanan fils de Yaïr, de Bethléem, tua Goliath de Gat; le bois de sa lance était comme une pièce de métier à tisser.
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 Il y eut un autre combat à Gat; là se trouvait un homme de haute taille qui avait 6 doigts à chaque main, 6 doigts à chaque pied: au total 24 doigts. Lui aussi était un descendant de Rafa.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 Comme il insultait Israël, Yonathan, fils de Chiméa, frère de David, le tua.
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 Tous les quatre étaient des hommes de Gat descendants de Rafa. Ils tombèrent sous la main de David et de ses gardes.
