2 Samuel 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 En tiempo de David hubo hambre por tres años consecutivos. David consultó el rostro de Yahveh y Yahveh respondió: «Hay sangre sobre Saúl y sobre su casa, porque mató a los gabaonitas».
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 Llamó el rey a los gabaonitas y les dijo: (Estos gabaonitas no eran israelitas, sino uno de los residuos amorreos, a los que los israelitas habían hecho juramento. Pero Saúl intentó exterminarlos, llevado del celo por los israelitas y Judá.)
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 Dijo, pues, David a los gabaonitas: «¿Qué debo hacer por vosotros y cómo puedo aplacaros para que bendigáis la heredad de Yahveh?»
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 Le respondieron los gabaonitas: «No es para nosotros cuestión de oro ni plata con Saúl y su casa, ni se trata de hacer morir a nadie en Israel». El dijo: «Haré por vosotros lo que me digáis».
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 Entonces ellos dijeron al rey: «Aquel hombre nos exterminó y proyectó aniquilarnos para hacernos desaparecer de todos los términos de Israel.
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 Que se nos entreguen siete de entre sus hijos y los despeñaremos ante Yahveh en Gabaón, en el monte de Yahveh». El rey dijo: «Os los entregaré».
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 Pero el rey perdonó a Meribbaal, hijo de Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, a causa del juramento de Yahveh que había entre ellos, entre David y Jonatán, hijo de Saúl.
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 Tomó el rey a los dos hijos que Rispá, hija de Ayyá, había dado a Saúl, Armoní y Meribbaal, y a los cinco hijos que Merab, hija de Saúl, había dado a Adriel, hijo de Barzillay de Mejolá
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 y los puso en manos de los gagaonitas que los despeñaron en el monte ante Yahveh. Cayeron los siete a la vez; fueron muertos en los primeros días de la cosecha, al comienzo de la siega de la cebada.
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 Rispá, hija de Ayyá, tomó un sayal y se lo tendía sobre la roca desde el comienzo de la siega hasta que cayeron sobre ellos las lluvias del cielo; no dejaba que se pararan junto a ellos las aves del cielo por el día ni las bestias del campo por la noche.
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 Avisaron a David lo que había hecho Rispá, hija de Ayyá, concubina de Saúl.
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 Entonces David fue a recoger los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de su hijo Jonatán, de entre los vecinos de Yabés de Galaad que los habían hurtado de la explanada de Betsán, donde los filisteos los habían colgado el día que mataron a Saúl en Gelboé;
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 subió desde allí los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de su hijo Jonatán y los reunió con los huesos de los despeñados.
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 Sepultaron los huesos de Saúl, los de su hijo Jonatán y los de los despeñados, en tierra de Benjamín, en Selá, en el sepulcro de Quis, padre de Saúl, y ejecutaron cuanto había ordenado el rey, después de lo cual Dios quedó aplacado con la tierra.
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 Hubo otra guerra de los filisteos contra Israel. Bajó David con sus veteranos y atarcaron a los filisteos. David estaba extenuado.
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 Había un campeón de los descendientes de Rafá; el peso de su lanza era de trescientos siclos de bronce, ceñía una espada nueva y se dijo: «Voy a matar a David».
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 Pero acudió en su socorro Abisay, hijo de Sarvia, que hirió al filisteo y le mató. Entonces los hombres de David le conjuraron diciendo: «No vuelvas a salir al combate con nosotros, para que no apagues la antorcha en Israel».
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 Después de esto, hubo guerra de nuevo en Gob contra los filisteos; entonces Sibbekay, jusatita, mató a Saf, uno de los descendientes de Rafá.
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 Hubo otra guerra en Gob contra los filisteos, y Eljanán, hijo de Yaír de Belén, mató a Goliat de Gat; el asta de su lanza era como un enjullo de tejedor.
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 Hubo guerra de nuevo en Gat y había allí un hombre de gran estatura que tenía seis dedos en cada mano y seis dedos en cada pie, veinticuatro dedos en total; también él descendía de Rafá.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 Desafió éste a Israel, y Jonatán, hijo de Simá, hermano de David, le mató.
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 Estos cuatro descendián de Rafá de Gat y sucumbieron a manos de David y de sus veteranos.
