2 Samuel 21

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the days of David there was a famine which lasted for three years on end. David consulted Yahweh,and Yahweh said, 'Saul and his family have incurred blood-guilt, by putting the Gibeonites to death.'	1 En los tiempos de David, hubo hambre durante tres años consecutivos. David consultó al Señor, y el Señor le respondió: «Esto se debe a Saúl y a esa casa sanguinaria, porque él dio muerte a los gabaonitas».
2 Then the king summoned the Gibeonites and said-now, the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but were aremnant of the Amorites, to whom the Israelites had bound themselves by oath; Saul, however, in his zeal for theIsraelites and for Judah, had done his best to exterminate them -- hence David said to the Gibeonites,	2 Entonces David convocó a los gabaonitas y les habló. Ellos no pertenecían a Israel, sino que eran un resto de los amorreos, con quienes los israelitas se habían comprometido mediante un juramento. Sin embargo, Saúl había intentado eliminarlos, en su celo por Israel y Judá.
3 'What can I do for you? How can I make amends, so that you wil cal a blessing down on Yahweh'sheritage?'	3 David preguntó a los gabaonitas: «¿Qué puedo hacer por ustedes y con qué podré expiar, para que ustedes bendigan la herencia del Señor?».
4 The Gibeonites replied, 'Our quarrel with Saul and his family cannot be settled for silver or gold, nor byputting to death one man in Israel.' David said, 'Say what you want and I wil do it for you.'	4 Los gabaonitas le dijeron: «No tenemos con Saúl y su familia ninguna queja por cuestiones de plata y oro, ni tenemos cuestiones con ningún otro hombre en Israel, para hacerlo morir». David respondió: «Haré por ustedes lo que me pidan».
5 Then they replied to the king, 'The man who dismembered us and planned to annihilate us, so that weshould not exist anywhere in Israelite territory-	5 Ellos dijeron al rey: «Aquel hombre trató de exterminarnos y proyectaba aniquilarnos, para que no subsistiéramos en todo el territorio de Israel.
6 we want seven of his descendants handed over to us; and we shal dismember them before Yahwehat Gibeon on Yahweh's hill.' 'I shal hand them over,' said the king.	6 Que nos entreguen a siete de sus descendientes y nosotros los colgaremos delante del Señor, en Gabaón, en la montaña del Señor». «Yo se los entregaré», respondió el rey.
7 The king, however, spared Meribbaal son of Jonathan, son of Saul, on account of the oath by Yahwehbinding them together, binding David and Jonathan son of Saul.	7 El rey le perdonó la vida a Meribaal, hijo de Jonatán, a causa del juramento que David y Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, se habían hecho en nombre del Señor.
8 The king took the two sons born to Saul by Rizpah daughter of Aiah: Armoni and Meribbaal; and thefive sons borne by Merab daughter of Saul to Adriel son of Barzil ai, of Meholah.	8 Pero tomó a Armoní y Meribaal, los dos hijos que Rispá, hija de Aiá, había tenido con Saúl, y los cinco hijos que Merab, hija de Saúl, había tenido con Adriel, hijo de Barzilai, el de Mejolá,
9 He handed these over to the Gibeonites who dismembered them before Yahweh on the hil . Theseven of them perished together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of thebarley harvest.	9 y se los entregó a los gabaonitas. Ellos los colgaron en la montaña, delante del Señor, y sucumbieron los siete al mismo tiempo. Fueron ejecutados en los primeros días de la cosecha, al comienzo de la recolección de la cebada.
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah, wearing sacking and spreading some out for herself on the rock, from thebeginning of the barley harvest until the rain fel on them from heaven, kept the birds of the sky away from themin the daytime, and the wild animals away at night.	10 Rispá, hija de Aiá, tomó una lona y la tendió para poder recostarse sobre la roca. Así estuvo desde el comienzo de la cosecha hasta que las lluvias cayeron del cielo sobre los cadáveres, espantando durante el día a las aves del cielo y durante la noche a las fieras del campo.
11 David was told of what Saul's concubine, Rizpah daughter of Aiah, had done.	11 Cuando informaron a David de lo que hacía Rispá, hija de Aiá, la concubina de Saúl,
12 David went and recovered the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the notables of Jabesh inGilead. The latter had stolen them from the square in Beth-Shean, where the Philistines had hung them, whenthe Philistines had defeated Saul at Gilboa.	12 él fue a pedir los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonatán a los ciudadanos de Iabés de Galaad, que los habían retirado furtivamente de la explanada de Betsán, donde los habían suspendido los filisteos el día en que derrotaron a Saúl en Gelboé.
13 David fetched the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. The bones of the men who had beendismembered were col ected	13 David se llevó de allí los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonatán, y también recogió los huesos de los que habían sido colgados.
14 and these, with the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, were buried in the territory of Benjamin, atZela, in the tomb of Saul's father, Kish. The king's orders were carried out to the letter and after that, God tookpity on the country.	14 Todos fueron sepultados en el país de Benjamín, en la tumba de Quis, el padre de Saúl. Y una vez que hicieron todo lo que el rey había ordenado, Dios se mostró propicio con el país.
15 Once again the Philistines made war on Israel. David went down with his retainers; they fought thePhilistines and David began to tire.	15 Los filisteos reanudaron la guerra contra Israel. Entonces, David bajó con sus servidores y presentaron batalla a los filisteos David estaba extenuado,
16 There was a champion, one of the sons of Rapha. His spear weighed three hundred shekels ofbronze; he was wearing a new sword and was confident of kil ing David.	16 e Isbó Benob, uno de los descendientes de Rafá, cuya lanza pesaba trescientos siclos de bronce y que llevaba ceñida una espada nueva, amenazó con matar a David.
17 Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his rescue, however, attacking the Philistine and kil ing him. Then itwas that David's men swore the fol owing oath to him, 'You are never to go into battle with us again, in case youshould extinguish the lamp of Israel!'	17 Pero Abisai, hijo de Seruiá, acudió en su auxilio y abatió el filisteo, dándole muerte. Los hombres de David lo conjuraron, diciendo: «Tú no irás más a combatir con nosotros, no sea que extingas la lámpara de Israel».
18 After this, war with the Philistines broke out again at Gob. This was when Sibbecai of Hushah kil edSaph, one of the sons of Rapha.	18 Después hubo un combate contra los filisteos en Gob. Fue entonces cuando Sibecai, el jusatita, mató a Saf, que era uno de los descendientes de Rafá.
19 Again, war with the Philistines broke out at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair, of Bethlehem, kil ed Goliathof Gath, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.	19 Luego hubo otro combate contra los filisteos en Gob. Eljanán, hijo de Jaír, el de Belén, mató a Goliat, de Gat. El asta de la lanza de Goliat era gruesa como el palo grande de un telar.
20 There was further warfare at Gath, where there was a man of huge stature with six fingers on eachhand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in al . He too was a son of Rapha.	20 También hubo un combate en Gat. Allí había un hombre de enorme estatura, que tenía seis dedos en cada mano y seis en cada pie, veinticuatro en total. También él era descendiente de Rafá.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David cut him down.	21 Y como desafiaba a Israel, lo mató Jonatán, hijo de Simeá, hermano de David
22 These four were sons of Rapha in Gath and fel at the hands of David and his retainers.	22 Estos cuatro eran descendientes de Rafá, en Gat, y fueron abatidos por la mano de David y de sus servidores.
