NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Ahithophel said to Absalom, 'Let me choose twelve thousand men and set off this very night in pursuitof David.	1 Majd azt mondta Ahitófel Absalomnak: »Kiválasztok magamnak tizenkétezer embert és felkerekedem és még ez éjjel üldözőbe veszem Dávidot,
2 I shal fal on him while he is tired and dispirited; I shal strike terror into him, and al the people whoare with him wil run away. I shal kil only the king,	2 és rárontok (ő bizonnyal fáradt s erőtlen kezű), s megverem, s ha megfutamodott az egész nép, amely vele van, megölöm a magára maradt királyt,
3 and I shal then bring al the people back to you, like a bride returning to her husband. You seek thelife of one individual only; the people as a whole wil have peace.'	3 s úgy visszatérítem az egész népet, mint ahogy egy ember szokott visszatérni – hiszen te csak egy embert üldözöl –, s akkor az egész nép békességben lesz.«
4 The suggestion seemed a good one to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.	4 Beszéde tetszett is Absalomnak s Izrael valamennyi vénének.
5 Then Absalom said, 'Now cal Hushai the Archite, for us to hear what he too has to say.'	5 Ekkor Absalom azt mondta: »Hívjátok ide az aráki Húszájt, őt is hallgassuk meg, mit mond!«
6 When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said, 'This is what Ahithophel says. Are we to do as hesuggests? If not, suggest something yourself.'	6 Amikor aztán Húszáj eljött Absalomhoz, azt mondta neki Absalom: »Ezt és ezt mondta Ahitófel. Megtegyük-e vagy sem, mit tanácsolsz?«
7 Hushai said to Absalom, 'On this occasion the advice given by Ahithophel is not good.	7 Azt mondta erre Húszáj: »Nem jó tanács az, amelyet Ahitófel ezúttal adott.«
8 You know', Hushai went on, 'that your father and his men are great fighters and that they are now asangry as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Your father is a man of war: he wil not let the army rest during thenight.	8 Majd folytatta Húszáj: »Te tudod, hogy apád s a vele levő emberek igen vitézek, s olyan elkeseredett szívűek, mint a nőstény medve, amikor kölykei elrablása miatt dühöng az erdőn. Apád azonban harcban jártas ember, s nem fog vesztegelni a néppel.
9 At this moment he is concealed in some hol ow or other place. If at the outset there are casualtiesamong our troops, word will go round that the army supporting Absalom has met with disaster.	9 Hátha éppen a barlangokban lappang, vagy valamely más helyen, ahol éppen akar, s ha mindjárt kezdetben elesnek egy páran embereink közül, meghallja, aki meghallja, s azt fogja mondani: ‘Vereség érte azt a népet, amely Absalomot követte,’
10 And then even the valiant, the truly lion-hearted, will be demoralised; for al Israel knows that yourfather is a champion and that the men with him are valiant.	10 s akkor a félelem csüggedtté teszi még a legvitézebb embert is, akinek szíve olyan, mint az oroszláné: mert Izrael egész népe tudja, hogy apád vitéz és bátrak mindazok, akik vele vannak.
11 For my part, I offer this advice: Summon al Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, to ral y to you, asnumerous as the sand on the seashore, and you take the field in person with them.	11 Én azért ezt tartom helyes tanácsnak: Gyűljön hozzád egész Izrael, Dántól Beersebáig, olyan nagy számban, mint a tenger fövenye és te magad állj közéjük.
12 We shall reach him wherever he is to be found; we shal fal on him as the dew fal s on the ground,and not leave him or any one of the men with him.	12 Aztán üssünk rajta azon a helyen, ahol éppen található lesz, és lepjük el, mint ahogy a harmat szokta ellepni a földet, s ne hagyjunk meg azokból az emberekből, akik vele vannak, egyetlenegyet se.
13 Should he retire into a town, all Israel will bring ropes to that town, and we shal drag it into the river-bed until not a pebble of it is to be found.'	13 Ha pedig valamely városba húzódik, akkor vegye körül egész Izrael azt a várost kötelekkel, s húzzuk be a patakba, úgy hogy még egy kavicsot se lehessen találni belőle.«
14 Then Absalom and al the people of Israel said, 'Hushai the Arkite's advice is better thanAhithophel's,' Yahweh having resolved to thwart Ahithophel's shrewd advice and so bring disaster on Absalom.	14 Azt mondta erre Absalom és Izrael valamennyi embere: »Jobb az aráki Húszáj tanácsa Ahitófel tanácsánál!« – Ahitófel hasznos tanácsa azonban az Úr rendeléséből hiúsult meg, hogy így az Úr bajt hozzon Absalomra.
15 Hushai then told the priests Zadok and Abiathar, 'Ahithophel gave such and such advice to Absalomand the elders of Israel, but I advised so and so.	15 Azt mondta ekkor Húszáj Szádoknak és Abjatárnak, a papoknak: »Ezt és ezt tanácsolta Ahitófel Absalomnak és Izrael véneinek, én pedig ezt és ezt a tanácsot adtam.
16 Send with al speed to David and say, "Do not camp in the desert passes tonight, but get throughthem as fast as you can, or the king and his whole army may be annihilated." '	16 Most tehát küldjetek el hamar, s értesítsétek Dávidot, s mondjátok: ‘Ne vesztegelj ezen az éjszakán a puszta mezején, hanem kelj át késedelem nélkül a Jordánon, hogy el ne nyelje a veszedelem a királyt s az egész népet, amely vele van.’«
17 Jonathan and Ahimaaz were posted at the Fuller's Spring; a servant-girl was to go and warn themand they in turn were to warn King David, since they could not give themselves away by coming into the citythemselves.	17 Jonatán és Ahimaász a Rógel forrásnál álltak. Odament tehát a szolgáló, s elmondta nekik a dolgot, s ők elindultak, hogy közöljék a hírt Dávid királlyal. Ők ugyanis nem mutatkozhattak, s nem mehettek be a városba.
18 A young man saw them nonetheless and told Absalom. The pair of them, however, made off quickly,reaching the house of a man in Bahurim. In his courtyard was a storage-wel and they got down into it.	18 Ám egy legény meglátta őket, s értesítette Absalomot. Erre ők meggyorsították járásukat, s Bahurimban bementek egy ember házába. Ennek volt az udvarán egy kútja, s ők abba leszálltak,
19 The woman took a piece of canvas and, spreading it over the mouth of the storage-wel , scatteredcrushed grain on it so that nothing showed.	19 az asszony pedig vett egy takarót, s ráterítette a kút szájára, mintha darált árpát szárítana, s így nem lehetett észrevenni semmit sem.
20 When Absalom's servants reached the woman at the house, they said, 'Where are Ahimaaz andJonathan?' The woman said, 'They have gone further on, towards the water.' They searched but, having foundnothing, went back to Jerusalem.	20 Amikor aztán Absalom szolgái bementek a házba, s azt mondták az asszonynak: »Hol van Ahimaász és Jonatán?« Az asszony azt felelte: »Sietve átkeltek, éppen csak egy kis vizet ittak.« Erre azok, akik keresték őket, mivel nem találták, visszatértek Jeruzsálembe.
21 When they had gone, the men climbed out of the storage-wel and went to warn King David. 'Set out!'they told David. 'Cross the water quickly, for Ahithophel has given such and such advice against you!'	21 Amikor aztán elmentek, ők feljöttek a kútból. Elmentek, és jelentették Dávid királynak: »Induljatok el és keljetek át gyorsan a folyón, mert ezt és ezt tanácsolta ellenetek Ahitófel.«
22 So David and al the troops with him set off and crossed the Jordan. By dawn no one was left, al hadcrossed the Jordan.	22 Felkerekedett erre Dávid s az egész vele levő nép, s mire megvirradt, átkeltek a Jordánon, és senki sem maradt, aki át nem kelt volna a folyón.
23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set off andwent home to his own town. Then, having set his house in order, he hanged himself. He was buried in hisfather's tomb.	23 Amikor aztán Ahitófel látta, hogy nem hajtották végre tanácsát, megnyergelte szamarát, felkerekedett, hazament városába, intézkedett háza felől és felakasztotta magát. Meg is halt és eltemették apja sírjába.
24 David had reached Mahanaim by the time that Absalom crossed the Jordan with al the men of Israel.	24 Dávid Mahanaimba ment. Erre Absalom s vele Izraelnek minden embere is átkelt a Jordánon.
25 Absalom had put Amasa in command of the army in place of Joab. This Amasa was the son of aman cal ed Ithra the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigail, daughter of Jesse and sister of Zeruiah, mother ofJoab.	25 Absalom Amászát tette meg Joáb helyett a sereg vezérévé. Amásza egy jezreeli Jetra nevű embernek volt a fia, aki Abigailhoz, Naás lányához, Szárujának, Joáb anyjának a nővéréhez ment be.
26 Israel and Absalom pitched their camp in the territory of Gilead.	26 Izrael Absalommal Gileád földjén ütött tábort.
27 When David reached Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites, Machir sonof Ammiel from Lo-Debar, and Barzil ai the Gileadite from Rogelim	27 Amikor aztán Dávid Mahanaimba jutott, Sóbi, az Ammon fiainak Rabbátjából való Naás fia, továbbá Mákir, a Lodabárból való Ammiel fia, meg a Rógelimből való gileádi Barzilláj
28 brought bedding, rugs, bowls and crockery; and wheat, barley, meal, roasted grain, beans, lentils,	28 hoztak neki ágyneműt, szőnyeget, cserépedényt, búzát, árpát, lisztet, árpadarát, babot, lencsét, pörkölt borsót,
29 honey, curds and cows' cheese and sheep's cheese, which they presented to David and the peoplewith him for them to eat. 'The army', they said, 'must have been hungry, tired and thirsty in the desert.'	29 mézet, vajat, juhot és hízott marhát és odaadták Dávidnak s a vele levő népnek eleségül, mert gyanították, hogy éhség és szomjúság gyötri a népet a pusztában.
