NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Ahithophel said to Absalom, 'Let me choose twelve thousand men and set off this very night in pursuitof David.	1 Ajitófel dijo a Absalón: «Voy a elegir 12.000 hombres y me lanzaré en persecución de David esta misma noche.
2 I shal fal on him while he is tired and dispirited; I shal strike terror into him, and al the people whoare with him wil run away. I shal kil only the king,	2 Caeré sobre él cuando esté fatigado y falto de fuerzas, le llenaré de espanto y huirá toda la gente que está con él; heriré al rey solamente
3 and I shal then bring al the people back to you, like a bride returning to her husband. You seek thelife of one individual only; the people as a whole wil have peace.'	3 y haré que vuelva a ti todo el pueblo, como la novia viene a su esposo; solamente buscas la muerte de un hombre y todo el pueblo quedará a salvo».
4 The suggestion seemed a good one to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.	4 Pareció bueno el consejo a Absalón y a todos los ancianos de Israel.
5 Then Absalom said, 'Now cal Hushai the Archite, for us to hear what he too has to say.'	5 Pero Absalón dijo: «Llamad también a Jusay el arquita y oigámosle también a él».
6 When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said, 'This is what Ahithophel says. Are we to do as hesuggests? If not, suggest something yourself.'	6 Llegó Jusay donde Absalón y Absalón dijo: «Ajitófel nos ha dicho esto. ¿Debemos hacer lo que dice? Si no, habla tu».

8 You know', Hushai went on, 'that your father and his men are great fighters and that they are now asangry as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Your father is a man of war: he wil not let the army rest during thenight.	8 Añadió Jusay: «Tú ya sabes que tu padre y sus hombres son gente valerosa y están exasperados como una osa salvaje a la que han quitado sus oseznos. Tu padre es hombre de guerra y no permitirá que el pueblo descanse durante la noche.
9 At this moment he is concealed in some hol ow or other place. If at the outset there are casualtiesamong our troops, word will go round that the army supporting Absalom has met with disaster.	9 Ahora estará escondido en alguna caverna o en algún lugar. Si caen al principio algunos de los nuestros se correrá el rumor y se dirá: Ha habido un desastre en la tropa que sigue a Absalón.
10 And then even the valiant, the truly lion-hearted, will be demoralised; for al Israel knows that yourfather is a champion and that the men with him are valiant.	10 Y sucederá que incluso los más valientes, cuyo corazón es como corazón de león, perderán el ánimo, porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es esforzado y que son valerosos los que están con él.
11 For my part, I offer this advice: Summon al Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, to ral y to you, asnumerous as the sand on the seashore, and you take the field in person with them.	11 Por eso te aconsejo que reúnas en torno a ti a todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, como la arena que hay en la orilla del mar, y tú marcharás en persona en medio de ellos.
12 We shall reach him wherever he is to be found; we shal fal on him as the dew fal s on the ground,and not leave him or any one of the men with him.	12 Nos acercaremos a él en cualquier lugar en que se encuentre, caeremos sobre él como cae el rocío sobre la tierra y no dejaremos con vida ni a él ni a uno solo de los hombres que le acompañan.
13 Should he retire into a town, all Israel will bring ropes to that town, and we shal drag it into the river-bed until not a pebble of it is to be found.'	13 Si se recoge a una ciudad, todo Israel llevará cuerdas y la arrastraremos hasta el torrente, de modo que no se pueda hallar en ella ni un pedrusco».
14 Then Absalom and al the people of Israel said, 'Hushai the Arkite's advice is better thanAhithophel's,' Yahweh having resolved to thwart Ahithophel's shrewd advice and so bring disaster on Absalom.	14 Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel dijeron: «El consejo de Jusay el arquita es mejor que el consejo de Ajitófel». Es que Yahveh había decidido frustrar el consejo de Ajitófel - que era bueno - para traer Yahveh la ruina sobre Absalón.
15 Hushai then told the priests Zadok and Abiathar, 'Ahithophel gave such and such advice to Absalomand the elders of Israel, but I advised so and so.	15 Después Jusay dijo a los sacerdotes Sadoq y Abiatar: «Esto ha aconsejado Ajitófel a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel; y esto y esto he aconsejado yo.
16 Send with al speed to David and say, "Do not camp in the desert passes tonight, but get throughthem as fast as you can, or the king and his whole army may be annihilated." '	16 Ahora mandad rápidamente a avisar a David: “No hagas noche en las llanuras del desierto. Pasa sin tardanza al otro lado, no vaya a ser devorado el rey y todo el pueblo que le acompaña.”»
17 Jonathan and Ahimaaz were posted at the Fuller's Spring; a servant-girl was to go and warn themand they in turn were to warn King David, since they could not give themselves away by coming into the citythemselves.	17 Jonatán y Ajimaas estaban apostados en la fuente de Roguel. Una criada vendría a avisarles y ellos irían a comunicárselo al rey David, porque no podían dejarse ver al entrar en la ciudad.
18 A young man saw them nonetheless and told Absalom. The pair of them, however, made off quickly,reaching the house of a man in Bahurim. In his courtyard was a storage-wel and they got down into it.	18 Pero los vio un muchacho y avisó a Absalón. Entonces los dos partieron a toda prisa y entraron en casa de un hombre de Bajurim. Tenía éste un pozo en el patio y los bajaron a él.
19 The woman took a piece of canvas and, spreading it over the mouth of the storage-wel , scatteredcrushed grain on it so that nothing showed.	19 La mujer tomó una manta, la extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y puso encima grano trillado; de modo que no se notaba nada.
20 When Absalom's servants reached the woman at the house, they said, 'Where are Ahimaaz andJonathan?' The woman said, 'They have gone further on, towards the water.' They searched but, having foundnothing, went back to Jerusalem.	20 Llegó la gente de Absalón a la casa, donde la mujer, y dijeron: «¿Dónde están Ajimaas y Jonatán?» La mujer respondió: «Han pasado más allá hacia el agua». Buscaron, pero no hallaron nada y se volvieron a Jerusalén.
21 When they had gone, the men climbed out of the storage-wel and went to warn King David. 'Set out!'they told David. 'Cross the water quickly, for Ahithophel has given such and such advice against you!'	21 Después que se fueron, subieron ellos del pozo y fueron a avisar al rey David diciéndole: «Llevantos y pasad aprisa el agua, porque este consejo les ha dado Ajitófel contra vosotros».
22 So David and al the troops with him set off and crossed the Jordan. By dawn no one was left, al hadcrossed the Jordan.	22 Se levantó David y todo el pueblo que estaba con él y pasaron el Jordán; al romper la luz de la mañana no quedaba nadie sin pasar el Jordán.
23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set off andwent home to his own town. Then, having set his house in order, he hanged himself. He was buried in hisfather's tomb.	23 Cuando vio Ajitófel que no habían seguido con su consejo, aparejó el asno y levantándose fue a su casa en su ciudad; ordenó su casa, y luego se ahorcó y murió. Le sepultaron en la tumba de su padre.
24 David had reached Mahanaim by the time that Absalom crossed the Jordan with al the men of Israel.	24 Llegaba David a Majanáyim cuando atravesaba Absalón el Jordán con todos los hombres de Israel.
25 Absalom had put Amasa in command of the army in place of Joab. This Amasa was the son of aman cal ed Ithra the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigail, daughter of Jesse and sister of Zeruiah, mother ofJoab.	25 Absalón había puesto a Amasá al frente del ejército, en lugar de Joab. 26 Israel and Absalom pitched their camp in the territory of Gilead.	26 Israel y Absalón acamparon en tierra de Galaad.
27 When David reached Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites, Machir sonof Ammiel from Lo-Debar, and Barzil ai the Gileadite from Rogelim	27 Cuando David llegó a Majanáyim, Sobí, hijo de Najás, de Rabbá de los ammonitas, y Makir, hijo de Ammiel, de Lo Debar, y Barzillay de Galaad de Roguelim,

29 honey, curds and cows' cheese and sheep's cheese, which they presented to David and the peoplewith him for them to eat. 'The army', they said, 'must have been hungry, tired and thirsty in the desert.'	29 miel, cuajada, ovejas y quesos de vaca, y lo ofrecieron a David y a la gente que estaba con él, para que comiesen, pues se habían dicho: «La gente habrá pasado hambre, fatigas y sed en el desierto».
