NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Ahithophel said to Absalom, 'Let me choose twelve thousand men and set off this very night in pursuitof David.	1 Ajitófel dijo a Absalón: «Déjame elegir doce mil hombres y saldré en persecución de David esta misma noche.
2 I shal fal on him while he is tired and dispirited; I shal strike terror into him, and al the people whoare with him wil run away. I shal kil only the king,	2 Lo sorprenderé cuando esté enteramente agotado y le infundiré terror. Toda la tropa que está con él huirá, y entonces matará al rey solo.
3 and I shal then bring al the people back to you, like a bride returning to her husband. You seek thelife of one individual only; the people as a whole wil have peace.'	3 Así haré que todo el pueblo se vuelva hacia ti como una esposa a su marido. Lo que tú quieres es eliminar a un solo hombre; todos los demás quedarán a salvo».
4 The suggestion seemed a good one to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.	4 La propuesta de Ajitófel le pareció bien a Absalón y a todos los ancianos de Israel.
5 Then Absalom said, 'Now cal Hushai the Archite, for us to hear what he too has to say.'	5 Sin embargo, Absalón dijo: «Llamen a Jusai, el arquita, y oigámoslo también a él, a ver qué opina».
6 When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said, 'This is what Ahithophel says. Are we to do as hesuggests? If not, suggest something yourself.'	6 Jusai se presentó ante Absalón, y este le dijo: «Ajitófel ha dicho esto y esto. ¿Debemos hacer lo que él dice? En caso contrario, danos tu opinión».
7 Hushai said to Absalom, 'On this occasion the advice given by Ahithophel is not good.	7 Jusai respondió a Absalón: «Esta vez, el consejo que ha dado Ajitófel no es acertado».
8 You know', Hushai went on, 'that your father and his men are great fighters and that they are now asangry as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Your father is a man of war: he wil not let the army rest during thenight.	8 Luego añadió: «Tú conoces a tu padre y a sus hombres: ellos son valientes y están exasperados como una osa salvaje cuando le arrebatan sus cachorros. Además, tu padre es un hombre de guerra y no va a pasar la noche con la tropa.
9 At this moment he is concealed in some hol ow or other place. If at the outset there are casualtiesamong our troops, word will go round that the army supporting Absalom has met with disaster.	9 Seguro que ahora está escondido en una quebrada o en cualquier otra parte. Y si al comienzo caen algunos de los nuestros, el que se entere dirá: «Ha habido un desastre entre los secuaces de Absalón».
10 And then even the valiant, the truly lion-hearted, will be demoralised; for al Israel knows that yourfather is a champion and that the men with him are valiant.	10 Entonces, hasta el más valiente, aunque tenga el ánimo de un león, se sentirá acobardado, porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es un héroe y que los hombres que están con él son valerosos.
11 For my part, I offer this advice: Summon al Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, to ral y to you, asnumerous as the sand on the seashore, and you take the field in person with them.	11 Por eso, yo aconsejo lo siguiente: que todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, se concentre junto a ti en cantidad innumerable contra la arena de la playa, y que tú en persona vayas al combate.
12 We shall reach him wherever he is to be found; we shal fal on him as the dew fal s on the ground,and not leave him or any one of the men with him.	12 Así lo alcanzaremos allí donde esté, caeremos sobre él como el rocío sobre el suelo, y no quedará vivo nadie, ni él ni uno solo de sus hombres.
13 Should he retire into a town, all Israel will bring ropes to that town, and we shal drag it into the river-bed until not a pebble of it is to be found.'	13 Y si se retira a una ciudad, todo Israel hará que lleven cuerdas a esa ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el torrente, a tal punto que allí no se encontrará más ni una piedrita».
14 Then Absalom and al the people of Israel said, 'Hushai the Arkite's advice is better thanAhithophel's,' Yahweh having resolved to thwart Ahithophel's shrewd advice and so bring disaster on Absalom.	14 Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel dijeron: «¡El consejo de Jusai, el arquita, es mejor que el de Ajitófel!». El Señor, en efecto, había decidido frustrar el acertado consejo de Ajitófel, para provocar la ruina de Absalón.
15 Hushai then told the priests Zadok and Abiathar, 'Ahithophel gave such and such advice to Absalomand the elders of Israel, but I advised so and so.	15 Jusai dijo entonces a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar: «Ajitófel ha aconsejado tal y tal cosa a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel, y yo le he dado este otro consejo.
16 Send with al speed to David and say, "Do not camp in the desert passes tonight, but get throughthem as fast as you can, or the king and his whole army may be annihilated." '	16 Manden ahora mismo a informar a David: «No te quedes esta noche en los pasos del desierto. Cruza más bien al otro lado, no vaya a suceder que sean aniquilados el rey y todo el pueblo que lo acompaña».
17 Jonathan and Ahimaaz were posted at the Fuller's Spring; a servant-girl was to go and warn themand they in turn were to warn King David, since they could not give themselves away by coming into the citythemselves.	17 Jonatán y Ajimáas estaban junto a la Fuente de Roguel. Una esclava fue a llevarles la noticia, para que ellos, a su vez, fueran a informar a David, porque no podían dejarse ver entrando en la ciudad.
18 A young man saw them nonetheless and told Absalom. The pair of them, however, made off quickly,reaching the house of a man in Bahurim. In his courtyard was a storage-wel and they got down into it.	18 Pero un joven los vio y fue a avisar a Absalón. Entonces los dos partieron rápidamente y llegaron a la casa de un hombre de Bajurím, que tenía un pozo en el patio. Ellos bajaron al pozo,
19 The woman took a piece of canvas and, spreading it over the mouth of the storage-wel , scatteredcrushed grain on it so that nothing showed.	19 y la mujer tomó un lienzo, lo extendió sobre la boca del pozo y esparció encima grano machacado, de manera que no se notaba nada.
20 When Absalom's servants reached the woman at the house, they said, 'Where are Ahimaaz andJonathan?' The woman said, 'They have gone further on, towards the water.' They searched but, having foundnothing, went back to Jerusalem.	20 Los servidores de Absalón entraron en la casa de esa mujer y preguntaron: «¿Dónde están Ajimáas y Jonatán?». La mujer les respondió: «Pasaron por aquí en dirección a las aguas». Ellos registraron, y al no encontrar nada, se volvieron a Jerusalén.
21 When they had gone, the men climbed out of the storage-wel and went to warn King David. 'Set out!'they told David. 'Cross the water quickly, for Ahithophel has given such and such advice against you!'	21 Apenas partieron, los jóvenes salieron del pozo y fueron a informar al rey David: «Apresúrense a cruzar las aguas, le dijeron, porque Ajitófel ha propuesto este plan contra ustedes».
22 So David and al the troops with him set off and crossed the Jordan. By dawn no one was left, al hadcrossed the Jordan.	22 David y toda la tropa que iba con él reanudaron la marcha y cruzaron el Jordán. Al despuntar el día, no había quedado nadie sin pasar el Jordán.
23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set off andwent home to his own town. Then, having set his house in order, he hanged himself. He was buried in hisfather's tomb.	23 Cuando Ajitófel vio que no habían seguido su consejo, ensilló su asno y se fue a su casa, a su ciudad. Puso en orden los asuntos de su casa y se ahorcó. Así murió, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.
24 David had reached Mahanaim by the time that Absalom crossed the Jordan with al the men of Israel.	24 David llegó a Majanaim, mientras Absalón cruzaba el Jordán con todos los hombres de Israel.
25 Absalom had put Amasa in command of the army in place of Joab. This Amasa was the son of aman cal ed Ithra the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigail, daughter of Jesse and sister of Zeruiah, mother ofJoab.	25 Absalón había puesto al frente del ejército a Amasá, en lugar de Joab. Amasá era hijo de un hombre llamado Itrá, el ismaelita, que se había unido a Abigail, hija de Jesé y hermana de Seruiá, la madre de Joab.
26 Israel and Absalom pitched their camp in the territory of Gilead.	26 Israel y Absalón acamparon en la región de Galaad.
27 When David reached Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites, Machir sonof Ammiel from Lo-Debar, and Barzil ai the Gileadite from Rogelim	27 Y cuando David llegó a Majanaim, Sobí, hijo de Najás, el de Rabá de los amonitas, Maquir, hijo de Amiel, el de Lo Dabar, y Barzilai, el galaadita de Roglím,
28 brought bedding, rugs, bowls and crockery; and wheat, barley, meal, roasted grain, beans, lentils,	28 trajeron catres, mantas, jarras, vasijas, trigos, cebada, harina, grano tostado, habas, lentejas,
29 honey, curds and cows' cheese and sheep's cheese, which they presented to David and the peoplewith him for them to eat. 'The army', they said, 'must have been hungry, tired and thirsty in the desert.'	29 miel, leche cuajada y queso de oveja y de vaca, y se los presentaron a David y a la gente que estaba con él, para que comieran. Porque decían: «La gente está hambrienta, cansada y sedienta de tanto caminar por el desierto».
