NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 After this, Absalom procured a chariot and horses, with fifty men to run ahead of him.	1 In seguito Assalonne si preparò un carro, cavalli e cinquanta uomini che corressero davanti a lui.
2 He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate; and whenever a man withsome lawsuit had to come before the king's tribunal, Absalom would cal out to him and ask, 'Which town are youfrom?' If he answered, 'Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,'	2 Assalonne si alzava presto e si poneva a lato della strada di accesso della porta della città. Così, se uno aveva una causa e doveva andare dal re per il giudizio, Assalonne lo chiamava e gli diceva: "Di quale città sei?". Rispondeva: "Il tuo servo è di una tribù d'Israele".
3 then Absalom would say, 'Look, your case is sound and just, but not one of the king's deputies willisten to you.'	3 Assalonne gli diceva: "Vedi, le tue richieste sono buone e giuste, ma tu non hai chi ti ascolti da parte del re".
4 Absalom would say, 'Oh, who will appoint me judge in the land? Then anyone with a lawsuit or a pleacould come to me and I should see he had justice!'	4 Poi Assalonne esclamava: "Chi mi costituirà giudice nel paese? A me potrebbe venire ognuno che avesse una lite e un giudizio e gli renderei giustizia!".
5 And whenever anyone came up to him to prostrate himself, he would stretch out his hand, draw him tohim and kiss him.	5 Avveniva che, quando qualcuno si avvicinava per prostrarsi davanti a lui, egli allungava la mano, lo prendeva e lo baciava.
6 Absalom acted like this with every Israelite who appealed to the king's tribunal, and so Absalom wonthe Israelites' hearts.	6 In questo modo Assalonne agì con ogni Israelita che veniva dal re per il giudizio e così Assalonne seduceva il cuore degli uomini d'Israele.
7 When four years had gone by, Absalom said to the king, 'Al ow me to go to Hebron and fulfil the vowwhich I have made to Yahweh;	7 Quattro anni dopo Assalonne disse al re: "Lascia che io vada a compiere a Ebron il mio voto che feci al Signore.
8 for, when I was in Geshur, in Aram, your servant made this vow, "If Yahweh brings me back toJerusalem, I shal pay my devotions to Yahweh in Hebron." '	8 Infatti il tuo servo ha fatto questo voto durante la permanenza a Ghesùr in Aram: "Se il Signore mi ricondurrà a Gerusalemme, sacrificherò al Signore in Ebron".
9 The king said to him, 'Go in peace.' So he set off and went to Hebron.	9 Il re gli disse: "Va' in pace!". Egli si mosse per andare a Ebron.
10 Absalom sent couriers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, 'When you hear the trumpet sound, you are to say, "Absalom is king at Hebron!" '	10 Ma Assalonne mandò emissari in tutte le tribù d'Israele a dire: "Quando sentirete il suono del corno, direte: "Assalonne è diventato re a Ebron!".
11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem; they had been invited and had gone in alinnocence, unaware of what was going on.	11 Con Assalonne erano andate da Gerusalemme duecento persone che, essendo invitate, vi andarono ingenuamente, senza sapere niente.
12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from Giloh his town, and had him withhim while offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy grew in strength, since Absalom's supporters grew in number.	12 Nella circostanza dell'offerta dei suoi sacrifici, Assalonne mandò a chiamare Achitòfel il ghilonita, consigliere di Davide, dalla sua città di Ghilo. Così la cospirazione si consolidò e il popolo andò sempre più aumentando intorno ad Assalonne.
13 A messenger came and told David, 'The men of Israel have shifted their allegiance to Absalom.'	13 Un messaggero andò da Davide per dirgli: "Il cuore di ogni israelita segue Assalonne!".
14 David said to al his retinue then with him in Jerusalem, 'Up, let us flee, or we shal not escape fromAbsalom! Leave as quickly as you can, in case he mounts a sudden attack, overcomes us and puts the city tothe sword.'	14 Allora Davide disse a tutti i servi che erano con lui a Gerusalemme: "Su, fuggiamo, perché non abbiamo scampo davanti ad Assalonne. Affrettatevi a partire, perché non ci colga all'improvviso e faccia cadere su di noi il disastro e colpisca la città a fil di spada".
15 The king's retinue replied, 'Whatever my lord the king decides, we are at your service.'	15 I servi del re risposero: "Come decide in tutto il re, mio signore! Ecco, noi siamo tuoi servi!".
16 The king set out on foot with his whole household, leaving ten concubines to look after the palace.	16 Così il re uscì a piedi con tutta la sua famiglia, ma lasciò dieci concubine a custodire la casa.
17 The king set out on foot with everyone fol owing, and they halted at the last house.	17 Il re uscì dunque a piedi con tutto il popolo e si fermarono all'ultima casa.
18 Al his officers stood at his side. All the Cherethites and all the Pelethites, with Ittai and all the sixhundred Gittites who had come in his retinue from Gath, marched past the king.	18 Tutti i suoi servi sfilavano accanto a lui; anche tutti i Cretei e i Peletei e tutti i Gattiti, seicento uomini che l'avevano seguito da Gat, sfilavano al cospetto del re.
19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, 'You, why are you coming with us? Go back and stay with the king,for you are a foreigner, indeed an exile from your homeland.	19 Allora il re disse a Ittài di Gat: "Perché vieni anche tu con noi? Torna e rimani con il re, perché tu sei forestiero ed esule dal tuo paese.
20 You arrived only yesterday; should I take you wandering with us today, when I do not know myselfwhere I am going? Go back, take your fellow countrymen with you, and may Yahweh show you mercy andfaithful love!'	20 Sei venuto appena ieri e oggi dovrei farti vagare con noi, mentre io vado alla ventura? Ritorna e porta i tuoi fratelli con te. Il Signore usi con te misericordia e fedeltà!".
21 Ittai replied to the king, 'As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the kingmay be, for death or life, your servant wil be there too.'	21 Ma Ittài rispose al re: "Per la vita del Signore e per la vita del re, mio signore, dovunque sarà il re, mio signore, sia per la morte che per la vita, là sarà il tuo servo!".
22 David then said to Ittai, 'Go ahead, march past!' And Ittai of Gath marched past with al his men andwith all his children too.	22 Allora Davide disse a Ittài: "Avanti, passa!". E Ittài di Gat passò insieme con i suoi uomini e con la famiglia che era con lui.
23 The entire population was weeping aloud as the king stood in the bed of the Kidron and everyonemarched past him, making for the desert.	23 Tutti piangevano ad alta voce, mentre tutto il popolo sfilava. Il re stava in piedi nella valle del Cedron, mentre tutto il popolo passava davanti a lui, diretto verso il deserto.
24 Zadok was there too, and al the Levites with him, carrying the ark of God. They set the ark of Goddown beside Abiathar until everyone had finished marching out of the town.	24 Ecco, anche Zadòk e tutti i leviti addetti al trasporto dell'arca del patto di Dio, deposero l'arca di Dio presso Ebiatàr, finché tutto il popolo finì di uscire dalla città.
25 The king then said to Zadok, 'Take the ark of God back into the city. Should I win Yahweh's favour,he wil bring me back and al ow me to see it and its tent once more.	25 Il re disse a Zadòk: "Riporta l'arca di Dio in città. Se troverò grazia agli occhi del Signore, egli mi farà ritornare e me la farà rivedere insieme con la sua abitazione.
26 But should he say, "You displease me," here I am: let him treat me as he sees fit.'	26 Ma se dirà: "Non mi compiaccio più in te!", eccomi, faccia di me come pare bene ai suoi occhi!".
27 The king said to Zadok the priest, 'Look, you and Abiathar go back quietly into the city, with your twosons, your own son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar.	27 Il re disse al sacerdote Zadòk: "Vedi: torna in pace nella città; Achimaaz tuo figlio e Gionata, figlio di Ebiatàr, vostri due figli, sono con voi.
28 You see, I shall wait in the passes of the desert plain until word comes from you bringing me news.'	28 Vedete, io mi fermo presso i guadi del deserto, finché non arrivi da parte vostra una parola per informarmi".
29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.	29 Allora Zadòk ed Ebiatàr riportarono l'arca di Dio a Gerusalemme e rimasero là.
30 David then made his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, his head covered and his feetbare. And al the people with him had their heads covered and made their way up, weeping as they went.	30 Davide saliva l'erta degli Ulivi; saliva piangendo, a capo coperto, e procedeva scalzo. Tutto il popolo che era con lui si coprì il capo e salì piangendo continuamente.
31 David was then informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. David said, 'Ibeg you, Yahweh, turn Ahithophel's advice to fol y.'	31 Uno riferì a Davide: "Achitòfel è tra i congiurati con Assalonne!". Allora Davide esclamò: "Deh, rendi vano il consiglio di Achitòfel, o Signore".
32 As David reached the summit, where God is worshipped, he saw Hushai the Archite, his friend,coming to meet him with his tunic torn and with earth on his head.	32 Mentre Davide giungeva alla cima dove si adora Dio, ecco che Cusài l'archita gli si fece incontro con la sua veste stracciata e con la polvere sul capo.
33 David said, 'If you go along with me, you wil be a burden to me.	33 Davide gli disse: "Se tu proseguissi con me, mi saresti di peso.
34 But if you go back to the city and say to Absalom, "I am at your service, my lord king; once I was inyour father's service, but now I shal serve you," you wil be able to thwart Ahithophel's advice for me.	34 Ma se torni in città e dici ad Assalonne: "Io sono tuo servo, o re! Io fui in passato servo di tuo padre, ma ora sarò servo tuo!", allora mi renderesti vano il consiglio di Achitòfel.
35 Surely the priests Zadok and Abiathar wil be with you? Anything you hear from the palace you mustreport to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.	35 Non sono là con te i sacerdoti Zadòk ed Ebiatàr? Allora tutto quello che udrai dalla casa del re, lo riferirai ai sacerdoti Zadòk ed Ebiatàr.
36 You see, their two sons are there with them, Zadok's son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan;through these, you will send me word of everything you hear.'	36 Ecco, sono là con essi i loro due figli, Achimaaz di Zadòk e Gionata di Ebiatàr: per mezzo loro mi farete sapere tutto quello che sentirete".
37 Hushai, David's friend, entered the city just as Absalom was reaching Jerusalem.	37 Cusài, amico di Davide, arrivò in città, mentre Assalonne entrava a Gerusalemme.
