1 After this, Absalom procured a chariot and horses, with fifty men to run ahead of him.	1 Dopo di ciò Assalonne si procurò de’ cocchi, e dei cavalieri, e cinquanta uomini, che andavano innanzi a lui.
2 He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate; and whenever a man withsome lawsuit had to come before the king's tribunal, Absalom would cal out to him and ask, 'Which town are youfrom?' If he answered, 'Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,'	2 E la mattina levatosi Assalonne si metteva vicino all'ingresso della porta, e tutti coloro che avevano affari, e venivano a chiedere giustizia al re, li chiamava a sé Assalonne, e diceva: Di qual città se' tu? E quegli rispondeva: Io tuo servo sono della tal tribù d'Israele.
3 then Absalom would say, 'Look, your case is sound and just, but not one of the king's deputies willisten to you.'	3 E Assalonne gli rispondeva: Mi pare che tu dica bene, e abbi ragione: ma non havvi chi sia destinato dal re per sentirti. E soggiungeva Assalonne:
4 Absalom would say, 'Oh, who will appoint me judge in the land? Then anyone with a lawsuit or a pleacould come to me and I should see he had justice!'	4 Oh chi mi facesse giudice del paese, affinchè a me ricorressero tutti quelli che hanno affari, e io li potessi decidere secondo giustizia?
5 And whenever anyone came up to him to prostrate himself, he would stretch out his hand, draw him tohim and kiss him.	5 Oltre a ciò, quando alcuno andava a salutarlo, egli porgevagli la mano, e lo abbracciava, e lo baciava.
6 Absalom acted like this with every Israelite who appealed to the king's tribunal, and so Absalom wonthe Israelites' hearts.	6 Così faceva con tutti quei d'Israele che venivano per esser sentiti, e giudicati dal re; e si caparrava il cuore degli uomini d'Israele.
7 When four years had gone by, Absalom said to the king, 'Al ow me to go to Hebron and fulfil the vowwhich I have made to Yahweh;	7 Ma passato il quarantesimo anno disse Assalonne al re David: Io andrò, e adempirò in Hebron i voti fatti da me al Signore.
8 for, when I was in Geshur, in Aram, your servant made this vow, "If Yahweh brings me back toJerusalem, I shal pay my devotions to Yahweh in Hebron." '	8 Perocchè il tuo servo essendo a Gessur nella Siria, fece questo voto, e disse: Se il Signore mi farà tornare a Gerusalemme, offrirò sagrifizio al Signore.
9 The king said to him, 'Go in peace.' So he set off and went to Hebron.	9 E il re David gli disse: Va in pace. E quegli partì e andò in Hebron.
10 Absalom sent couriers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, 'When you hear the trumpet sound, you are to say, "Absalom is king at Hebron!" '	10 Ma Assalonne mandò emissarii in tutte le tribù d'Israele che dicessero: Subito che udirete il suono della tromba, direte: Assalonne regna già in Hebron.
11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem; they had been invited and had gone in alinnocence, unaware of what was going on.	11 Or con Assalonne erano andati da Gerusalemme dugento uomini invitati (da lui) i quali lo seguirono con semplicità di cuore e senza sapere niente de' suoi fini.
12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from Giloh his town, and had him withhim while offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy grew in strength, since Absalom's supporters grew in number.	12 Assalonne invitò parimente Achitophel Gilonita consigliere di David dalla sua città di Gilo. E nel tempo ch’egli stava immolando vittime, si formava una possente congiura, e cresceva il numero della gente, che correva in folla verso Assalonne.
13 A messenger came and told David, 'The men of Israel have shifted their allegiance to Absalom.'	13 Venne pertanto a Davidde un messo, che disse: Tutto Israele si è dato di tutto cuore a seguire Assalonne,
14 David said to al his retinue then with him in Jerusalem, 'Up, let us flee, or we shal not escape fromAbsalom! Leave as quickly as you can, in case he mounts a sudden attack, overcomes us and puts the city tothe sword.'	14 E David disse a’ suoi servi, che eran con lui in Gerusalemme: Orsù fuggiamo, perocché non avrem luogo di scampo, quando sia venuto Assalonne: affrettatevi a partire, affinchè col suo arrivo non ci prevenga, e porti rovine sopra di noi, e metta a fil di spada la gente della città.
15 The king's retinue replied, 'Whatever my lord the king decides, we are at your service.'	15 Dissero i servi del re a lui: Tutto quel che ci comanderà il re nostro Signore, sarà eseguito di buona voglia da noi tuoi servi.
16 The king set out on foot with his whole household, leaving ten concubines to look after the palace.	16 Partì adunque il re a piedi con tutta la sua famiglia, e lasciò dieci concubine a custodire il palazzo.
17 The king set out on foot with everyone fol owing, and they halted at the last house.	17 E il re, e tutto Israele uscirono a piedi, ed essendo già lungi dalla casa, egli si fermò:
18 Al his officers stood at his side. All the Cherethites and all the Pelethites, with Ittai and all the sixhundred Gittites who had come in his retinue from Gath, marched past the king.	18 E tutti i suoi servi facevano il viaggio presso a lui, e le legioni di Gerethi, e di Phelethi, e tutti i Gethei, guerrieri di valore, in numero di seicento uomini, i quali lo avean seguito da Geth, camminavano a piedi dinanzi a lui,
19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, 'You, why are you coming with us? Go back and stay with the king,for you are a foreigner, indeed an exile from your homeland.	19 Ma il re disse ad Ethai di Geth: Perchè vieni tu con noi? Torna indietro, e statti col re, essendo tu forestiero, e uscito dal tuo paese.
20 You arrived only yesterday; should I take you wandering with us today, when I do not know myselfwhere I am going? Go back, take your fellow countrymen with you, and may Yahweh show you mercy andfaithful love!'	20 Jeri tu se’ arrivata, e oggi sarai costretto a partire con noi? quanto a me io andrò, dove debbo andare: torna indietro, e riconduci teco i tuoi fratelli, e il Signore sarà misericordioso, e fedele con te, perchè tu hai dimostrata la tua gratitudine, e lealtà.
21 Ittai replied to the king, 'As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the kingmay be, for death or life, your servant wil be there too.'	21 Ma Ethai rispose al re: Viva il Signore, e viva il re mio padrone: in qualunque luogo sarai tu, o re signor mio, ivi sarà o vivo, o morto il tuo servo.
22 David then said to Ittai, 'Go ahead, march past!' And Ittai of Gath marched past with al his men andwith all his children too.	22 E David disse ad Ethai: Vieni, e passa. E passò Ethai Getheo, e tutta la gente che era con lui, e tutta l'altra moltitudine.
23 The entire population was weeping aloud as the king stood in the bed of the Kidron and everyonemarched past him, making for the desert.	23 E tutti piangevano, e singhiozzavano forte: e passò tutto il popolo, ed anche il re passò il torrente Cedron: e tutta la gente s'incamminò per la strada, che mena al deserto.
24 Zadok was there too, and al the Levites with him, carrying the ark of God. They set the ark of Goddown beside Abiathar until everyone had finished marching out of the town.	24 Venne anche Sadoc sommo sacerdote, e con lui tutti i Leviti, che portavan l'arca del testamento di Dio, e deposero l’arca di Dio: e Abiathar le andò appresso aspettando che finisse di passar tutto il popolo, che era uscito dalla città.
25 The king then said to Zadok, 'Take the ark of God back into the city. Should I win Yahweh's favour,he wil bring me back and al ow me to see it and its tent once more.	25 Ma il re disse a Sadoc: Riporta in città l'arca di Dio: se io troverò grazia negli occhi del Signore, egli mi rimenerà, e farammi vedere e questa, e il suo tabernacolo.
26 But should he say, "You displease me," here I am: let him treat me as he sees fit.'	26 Ma se egli mi dirà. Non ti voglio: io son preparato, faccia egli quello che a lui piace.
27 The king said to Zadok the priest, 'Look, you and Abiathar go back quietly into the city, with your twosons, your own son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar.	27 E soggiunse il re a Sadoc sommo sacerdote: Torna in pace alla città, o Veggente: e Achimaas tuo figliuolo, e Gionata figliuolo di Abiathar, due vostri figliuoli, sieno con voi.
28 You see, I shall wait in the passes of the desert plain until word comes from you bringing me news.'	28 Ecco che io vo a nascondermi nelle pianure del deserto, sino a tanto che altre nuove mi vengano da voi.
29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.	29 Sadoc adunque, e Abiathar riportarono l'arca di Dio in Gerusalemme, e ivi si stettero.
30 David then made his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, his head covered and his feetbare. And al the people with him had their heads covered and made their way up, weeping as they went.	30 Or Davidde saliva il colle degli ulivi, e lo saliva piangendo, e camminava a piedi ignudi, col capo coperto: e parimente tutto il popolo che era con lui, saliva col capo coperto, e piangendo.
31 David was then informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. David said, 'Ibeg you, Yahweh, turn Ahithophel's advice to fol y.'	31 E fu riferito a Davidde, come anche Achitophel era entrato nella congiura di Assalonne; e disse David; Signore, infatua, ti prego, i consigli di Achitophel.
32 As David reached the summit, where God is worshipped, he saw Hushai the Archite, his friend,coming to meet him with his tunic torn and with earth on his head.	32 E mentre Davidde stava per arrivare alla vetta del monte, in cui voleva adorare il Signore, sopraggiunse ad un tratto presso di lui Chusai di Arachi colla veste stracciata, e il capo coperto di polvere.
33 David said, 'If you go along with me, you wil be a burden to me.	33 E Davidde gli disse: Se tu vieni con me, mi sarai di peso.
34 But if you go back to the city and say to Absalom, "I am at your service, my lord king; once I was inyour father's service, but now I shal serve you," you wil be able to thwart Ahithophel's advice for me.	34 Ma se tornerai in città, e dirai ad Assalonne: Io, o re, son tuo servo: come ho servito al padre tuo, cosi servirò a te: tu dissiperai i disegni di Achitophel.
35 Surely the priests Zadok and Abiathar wil be with you? Anything you hear from the palace you mustreport to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.	35 E tu avrai con te Sadoc, e Abiathar sacerdoti, e tutto quello che sentirai dirsi in casa del re, lo farai sapere a Sadoc, e ad Abiathar sacerdoti.
36 You see, their two sons are there with them, Zadok's son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan;through these, you will send me word of everything you hear.'	36 E sono con essi due loro figliuoli, Achimaas figliuolo di Sadoc, e Gionata figliuolo di Abiathar, e per essi mi darete notizia di tutto quello che saprete.
37 Hushai, David's friend, entered the city just as Absalom was reaching Jerusalem.	37 Or nel punto, in cui Chusai amico di David arrivò in città Assalonne ancora arrivò in Gerusalemme.
