NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.	1 O Senhor mandou a Davi o profeta Natã; este entrou em sua casa e disse-lhe: Dois homens moravam na mesma cidade, um rico e outro pobre.
2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;	2 O rico possuía ovelhas e bois em grande quantidade;
3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.	3 o pobre, porém, só tinha uma ovelha, pequenina, que ele comprara. Ele a criava e ela crescia junto dele, com os seus filhos, comendo do seu pão, bebendo do seu copo e dormindo no seu seio; era para ele como uma filha.
4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.	4 Certo dia, chegou à casa do homem rico a visita de um estranho, e ele, não querendo tomar de suas ovelhas nem de seus bois para aprontá-los e dar de comer ao hóspede que lhe tinha chegado, foi e apoderou-se da ovelhinha do pobre, preparando-a para o seu hóspede.
5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.	5 Davi, indignado contra tal homem, disse a Natã: Pela vida de Deus! O homem que fez isso merece a morte.
6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'	6 Ele restituirá sete vezes o valor da ovelha, por ter feito isso e não ter tido compaixão.
7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,	7 Natã disse então a Davi: Tu és esse homem. Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: ungi-te rei de Israel, salvei-te das mãos de Saul,
8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .	8 dei-te a casa do teu senhor e pus as suas mulheres nos teus braços. Entreguei-te a casa de Israel e de Judá e, se isso fosse ainda pouco, eu teria ajuntado outros favores.
9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.	9 Por que desprezaste o Senhor, fazendo o que é mau aos seus olhos? Feriste com a espada Urias, o hiteu, para fazer de sua mulher a tua esposa, e o fizeste perecer pela espada dos amonitas.
10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."	10 Por isso, jamais se afastará a espada de tua casa, porque me desprezaste, tomando a mulher de Urias, o hiteu, para fazer dela a tua esposa.
11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.	11 Eis o que diz o Senhor: vou fazer com que se levantem contra ti males vindos de tua própria casa. Sob os teus olhos, tomarei as tuas mulheres e dá-las-ei a um outro que dormirá com elas à luz do sol!
12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '	12 Porque agiste em segredo, mas eu o farei diante de todo o Israel e diante do sol.
13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.	13 Davi disse a Natã: Pequei contra o Senhor. Natã respondeu-lhe: O Senhor perdoa o teu pecado; não morrerás.
14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'	14 Todavia, como desprezaste o Senhor com essa ação, morrerá o filho que te nasceu.
15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .	15 E Natã voltou para sua casa. O Senhor feriu o menino que a mulher de Urias tinha dado a Davi, e ele adoeceu gravemente.
16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.	16 Davi suplicou ao Senhor pelo menino; jejuou e passou a noite em sua casa prostrado por terra, vestido com um saco.
17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.	17 Os anciãos de sua casa, de pé junto dele, insistiam em que ele se levantasse do chão, mas ele não o quis, nem tomou com eles alimento algum.
18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'	18 Ao sétimo dia, morreu o menino, e os servos do rei não ousavam dar-lhe a notícia, pensando: Quando o menino ainda vivia, nós lhe falávamos e ele não queria ouvir-nos; quanto mais se afligirá agora, se lhe anunciarmos que o menino morreu? Seria uma desgraça.
19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'	19 Davi notou que seus servos cochichavam entre si, e compreendeu que o menino morrera. Perguntou-lhes: Morreu o menino? Sim, responderam-lhe.
20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.	20 Então Davi levantou-se do chão, lavou-se, perfumou-se, mudou de roupa e entrou na casa do Senhor para se prostrar. De volta à sua casa, mandou que lhe servissem a refeição, e comeu.
21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'	21 Seus servos disseram-lhe: Que fazes? Quando a criança ainda vivia, jejuavas e choravas; agora, que morreu, tu te levantas e comes.
22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."	22 Eu jejuava e orava pelo menino enquanto vivia, respondeu ele, porque dizia comigo: Quem sabe, talvez o Senhor terá pena de mim e o menino ficará bom?
23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'	23 Mas agora, que morreu, para que jejuar ainda? Posso por acaso fazê-lo voltar à vida? Eu é que irei para junto dele; ele, porém, não voltará mais a mim!
24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him	24 Davi consolou Betsabé, sua mulher. Foi procurá-la e dormiu com ela. Ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho, ao qual chamou Salomão. O Senhor o amou,
25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.	25 e revelou isto a Davi por intermédio do profeta Natã, que deu ao menino o sobrenome de Amado-de-Javé, segundo a ordem do Senhor.
26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.	26 Joab, que sitiava Raba dos amonitas, apoderou-se da cidade das Águas.
27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.	27 E enviou a Davi mensageiros com esta notícia: Assaltei Raba e ocupei a cidade das Águas.
28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'	28 Ajunta o resto do exército, vem acampar perto da cidade e tomá-la, para não acontecer que, tomando-a eu, seja-lhe dado o meu nome.
29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.	29 Reuniu Davi todo o exército e foi contra Raba, assaltando-a e tomando-a.
30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'	30 Tirou a coroa da cabeça de Milcom. Esta pesava um talento de ouro, e era ornada de uma pedra preciosa, que foi colocada sobre a cabeça de Davi. O rei levou da cidade grande quantidade de despojos.
31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.	31 Quanto à sua população, fê-la sair para empregá-la em serrar, em trabalhar com a picareta e o machado e em fazer tijolos. Assim fez com todas as cidades dos amonitas. E Davi voltou com todas as suas tropas para Jerusalém.
