2 Samuel 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.	1 Yahvé envoya le prophète Natân vers David. Il entra chez lui et lui dit: "Il y avait deux hommesdans la même ville, l'un riche et l'autre pauvre.
2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;	2 Le riche avait petit et gros bétail en très grande abondance.
3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.	3 Le pauvre n'avait rien du tout qu'une brebis, une seule petite qu'il avait achetée. Il la nourrissait etelle grandissait avec lui et avec ses enfants, mangeant son pain, buvant dans sa coupe, dormant dans son sein:c'était comme sa fille.
4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.	4 Un hôte se présenta chez l'homme riche qui épargna de prendre sur son petit ou gros bétail dequoi servir au voyageur arrivé chez lui. Il vola la brebis de l'homme pauvre et l'apprêta pour son visiteur."
5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.	5 David entra en grande colère contre cette homme et dit à Natân: "Aussi vrai que Yahvé estvivant, l'homme qui a fait cela est passible de mort!
6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'	6 Il remboursera la brebis au quadruple, pour avoir commis cette action et n'avoir pas eu de pitié."
7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,	7 Natân dit alors à David: "Cet homme, c'est toi! Ainsi parle Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël: Je t'ai ointcomme roi d'Israël, je t'ai sauvé de la main de Saül,
8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .	8 je t'ai livré la maison de ton maître, j'ai mis dans tes bras les femmes de ton maître, je t'ai donnéla maison d'Israël et de Juda et, si ce n'est pas assez, j'ajouterai pour toi n'importe quoi.
9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.	9 Pourquoi as-tu méprisé Yahvé et fait ce qui lui déplaît? Tu as frappé par l'épée Urie le Hittite, safemme tu l'as prise pour ta femme, lui tu l'as fait périr par l'épée des Ammonites.
10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."	10 Maintenant l'épée ne se détournera plus jamais de ta maison, parce que tu m'as méprisé et que tuas pris la femme d'Urie le Hittite pour qu'elle devienne ta femme.
11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.	11 "Ainsi parle Yahvé: Je vais, de ta propre maison, faire surgir contre toi le malheur. Je prendraites femmes sous tes yeux et je les livrerai à ton prochain, qui couchera avec tes femmes à la vue de ce soleil.
12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '	12 Toi, tu as agi dans le secret, mais moi j'accomplirai cela à la face de tout Israël et à la face dusoleil!"
13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.	13 David dit à Natân: "J'ai péché contre Yahvé!" Alors Natân dit à David: "De son côté, Yahvépardonne ta faute, tu ne mourras pas.
14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'	14 Seulement, parce que tu as outragé Yahvé en cette affaire, l'enfant qui t'est né mourra."
15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .	15 Et Natân s'en alla chez lui. Yahvé frappa l'enfant que la femme d'Urie avait donné à David, et iltomba gravement malade.
16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.	16 David implora Dieu pour l'enfant: il jeûnait strictement, rentrait chez lui et passait la nuitcouché sur la terre nue.
17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.	17 Les dignitaires de sa maison se tenaient debout autour de lui pour le relever de terre, mais ilrefusa et ne prit avec eux aucune nourriture.
18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'	18 Le septième jour, l'enfant mourut. Les officiers de David avaient peur de lui apprendre quel'enfant était mort. Ils se disaient en effet: "Quand l'enfant était vivant, nous lui avons parlé et il ne nous a pasécoutés. Comment pourrons-nous lui dire que l'enfant est mort? Il fera un malheur!"
19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'	19 David s'aperçut que les officiers chuchotaient entre eux, et il comprit que l'enfant était mort.David demanda à ses officiers: "L'enfant est-il mort", et ils répondirent: "Oui."
20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.	20 Alors David se leva de terre, se baigna, se parfuma et changea de vêtements. Puis il entra dansle sanctuaire de Yahvé et se prosterna. Rentré chez lui, il demanda qu'on lui servît de la nourriture et il mangea.
21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'	21 Ses officiers lui dirent: "Que fais-tu là? Tant que l'enfant était vivant, tu as jeûné et pleuré, etmaintenant que l'enfant est mort, tu te relèves et tu prends de la nourriture!"
22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."	22 Il répondit: "Tant que l'enfant était vivant, j'ai jeûné et j'ai pleuré, car je me disais: Qui sait?Yahvé aura peut-être pitié de moi et l'enfant vivra.
23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'	23 Maintenant qu'il est mort, pourquoi jeûnerais-je? Pourrais-je le faire revenir? C'est moi qui m'envais le rejoindre, mais lui ne reviendra pas vers moi."
24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him	24 David consola Bethsabée, sa femme. Il alla vers elle et coucha avec elle. Elle conçut et mit aumonde un fils auquel elle donna le nom de Salomon. Yahvé l'aima
25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.	25 et le fit savoir par le prophète Natân. Celui-ci le nomma Yedidya, suivant la parole de Yahvé.
26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.	26 Joab donna l'assaut à Rabba des Ammonites et il s'empara de la ville royale.
27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.	27 Joab envoya alors des messagers à David pour dire: "J'ai attaqué Rabba, je me suis emparé de laville des eaux.
28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'	28 Maintenant, rassemble le reste de l'armée, dresse ton camp contre la ville, pour que ce ne soitpas moi qui conquière la ville et lui donne mon nom."
29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.	29 David rassembla toute l'armée et alla à Rabba, il donna l'assaut à la ville et s'en empara.
30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'	30 Il enleva de la tête de Milkom la couronne qui pesait un talent d'or; elle enchâssait une pierreprécieuse qui devint l'ornement de la tête de David. Il emporta le butin de la ville en énorme quantité.
31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.	31 Quant à sa population, il la fit sortir, la mit à manier la scie, les pics ou les haches de fer etl'employa au travail des briques; il agissait de même pour toutes les villes des Ammonites. David et toute l'arméerevinrent à Jérusalem.
