1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.	1 - Il Signore mandò adunque Natan a Davide; e quegli, venuto da lui, gli disse: «Eranvi in città due uomini; uno ricco ed uno povero.
2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;	2 Il ricco aveva pecore e buoi in gran quantità;
3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.	3 il povero non aveva nulla, tranne una piccola pecora da lui comperata e nutrita; essa gli era cresciuta accanto a lui coi figli suoi, mangiando dello stesso pane, bevendo alla stessa tazza e dormendo sul petto di lui; gli era come una figlia.
4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.	4 Venuto un certo pellegrino alla casa del ricco, questi volendo risparmiare le sue pecore e i suoi buoi, per imbandire un banchetto al forestiero sopraggiunto prese la pecora del povero e con essa preparò i cibi per colui che era venuto a trovarlo».
5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.	5 Davide si adirò grandemente contro quell'uomo e disse a Natan: «Viva il Signore! chi ha fatto questo è reo di morte;
6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'	6 egli restituirà quattro volte il valore della pecora per il misfatto commesso e per non aver risparmiata [la pecora]».
7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,	7 Ma Natan disse a Davide: «Tu sei quell'uomo! Ecco cosa dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: - Io ti ho unto re sopra Israele, ti liberai dalle mani di Saul,
8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .	8 diedi in tua mano la casa del padrone, e nelle tue braccia le mogli del tuo signore, ti affidai la casa d'Israele e di Giuda e se ciò è poco, aggiungerò anche molto di più.
9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.	9 Perchè allora hai disprezzato la parola del Signore e hai operato il male al mio cospetto? Tu hai colpito di spada Uria l'Eteo, hai preso poi per la tua moglie la moglie di lui e l'hai fatto uccidere colla spada dei figliuoli di Ammon.
10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."	10 Perciò la spada non si partirà mai dalla tua casa, poichè hai disprezzato me e hai preso per tua sposa la moglie di Uria. -
11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.	11 Pertanto questo dice il Signore: - Ecco, io susciterò sopra di te un male nella tua casa, toglierò sotto i tuoi occhi le mogli tue e le darò ad un altro, il quale dormirà colle tue mogli alla luce di questo sole.
12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '	12 Tu hai agito di nascosto; io invece farò questo al cospetto di tutto Israele e alla luce del sole -».
13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.	13 Davide disse a Natan: «Ho peccato contro il Signore»; e Natan rispose a Davide: «Anche il Signore ti ha rimesso il peccato; tu non morirai.
14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'	14 Tuttavia poichè hai fatto bestemmiare i nemici del Signore a cagione del tuo peccato, il figlio che ti è nato morirà senz'altro».
15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .	15 E Natan se ne ritornò a casa. Il Signore percosse anche il bambino che la moglie di Uria aveva partorito a Davide, e questi ne fu disperato.
16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.	16 Davide pregò il Signore per il bambino e digiunò rigorosamente e segregatosi da tutti giacque sopra la terra.
17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.	17 Vennero allora gli anziani della sua casa per sforzarlo a levarsi da terra, ma egli non volle nè prese con essi cibo alcuno.
18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'	18 Accadde peraltro che il giorno settimo il bambino morì e i servi di Davide temettero di annunziargli che il bambino era morto, poichè si dicevano: «Ecco, quando era ancora in vita il fanciullo, noi gli parlavamo ed egli non voleva ascoltare le nostre parole; quanto più egli si affliggerà adesso se gli diremo: - Il bambino è morto -».
19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'	19 Davide però come vide i suoi servi bisbigliare tra loro, capì che il pargoletto era spirato e rivolto ai suoi servi chiese: «È morto il bambino?». Quelli risposero: «Sì, è morto».
20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.	20 Si levò allora Davide da terra, si lavò e si unse, e mutate le vesti entrò nella casa del Signore e l'adorò; poi tornato in casa sua chiese che gli portassero da mangiare e mangiò.
21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'	21 I servi poi gli chiesero: «Che significa ciò che fai? quando ancora era vivo il bambino tu per lui digiunasti e piangesti, ed ora che il bambino è morto ti sei alzato e hai mangiato».
22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."	22 Ed egli rispose: «Per il bambino, quando ancora viveva, digiunai e piansi, poichè dicevo: - Chi sa che il Signore mi voglia forse concedere la vita del bambino?
23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'	23 Ora poi che è morto, a che scopo digiunare? Posso io ancora richiamarlo in vita? Potrò bensì io andare a lui, ma egli non ritornerà mai più a me-».
24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him	24 Davide consolò poi Betsabea sua moglie e, venuto a lei, dormì con essa, ed essa gli generò un figlio di nome Salomone e Dio lo amò.
25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.	25 Davide lo affidò a Natan profeta e lo chiamò col nome di Amabile al Signore, poichè il Signore lo amava.
26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.	26 Joab frattanto combatteva contro Rabbat dei figli di Ammon, ed espugnava la loro città capitale.
27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.	27 Joab pertanto inviò messi a Davide per dirgli: «Ho attaccato Rabbat e resta da espugnarsi la città delle acque;
28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'	28 perciò raduna il rimanente del popolo e vieni a porre l'assedio alla città e prendila, affinchè qualora la città fosse distrutta da me, non se ne ascriva al mio nome la vittoria».
29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.	29 Davide raccolse l'esercito e partì alla volta di Rabbat e assalitala la prese.
30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'	30 Tolse poi dalla testa del re loro il diadema del peso di un talento d'oro, ornato di gemme preziosissime, e venne posto sul capo di Davide. Asportò anche dalla città un ricchissimo bottino.
31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.	31 Poi condottine via gli abitanti li fece segare e rastrellare con erpici di ferro, li tagliò a pezzi con coltelli e li gettò in fornaci per mattoni. Lo stesso fece a tutte le città dei figli di Ammon. Dopo di che Davide fece ritorno con tutto il suo esercito a Gerusalemme.
