1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.	1 Il Signore adunque mandò Nathan a David: quegli andò, e gli disse: Due uomini erano nella stessa città, uno ricco, e l'altro povero:
2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;	2 Il ricco avea in gran numero pecore e bovi:
3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.	3 Il povero poi non avea niente affatto, fuori che una piccola pecorella, che avea comperata e allevata, ed essa era cresciuta in casa sua insieme co' suoi figliuoli, mangiando il pane di lui, e bevendo alla sua coppa, e dormendo nel suo seno: ed ei la teneva in luogo di figliuola.
4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.	4 Or essendo arrivato un forestiero a casa del ricco, risparmiando questi le sue pecore, e i suoi bovi per fare un banchetto all'ospite, che era venuto a casa sua, si pigliò la pecora del povero, e ne fece vivande per colui che era venuto a casa sua.
5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.	5 Sdegnato altamente David contro un tal uomo, disse a Nathan: Viva il Signore: colui che ha fatto questo, è reo di morte.
6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'	6 Pagherà quattro volte il valor della pecora per aver fatto tal cosa, e non aver avuta pietà.
7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,	7 Ma Nathan disse a David: Tu se' quell’uomo: Ecco quello che dice il Signore re Dio d'Israele: Io ti unsi re d’Israele, e io ti salvai dalle mani di Saul.
8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .	8 E ti feci padrone della casa del tuo Signore, e della casa d'Israele, e di Giuda: e se questo è poco, io ti aggiungerò cose molte maggiori.
9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.	9 Per qual motivo adunque hai tu disprezzata la parola del Signore, facendo il male nel mio cospetto? tu hai ucciso di spada Uria di Heth, e hai presa per tua moglie la moglie di lui, e lui hai ucciso colla spada dei figliuoli di Ammon.
10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."	10 Per la qual cosa la spada penderà sempre sulla tua casa perchè tu mi hai disprezzato, e hai presa la moglie di Uria di Heth per farla tua moglie.
11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.	11 Quindi tali cose dice il Signore: Ecco che io farò nascere le tue sciagure dalla tua stessa casa, e sotto gli occhi tuoi prenderò le tue mogli, e darolle ad un altro, il qual dormirà colle stesse tue mogli in faccia a questo sole:
12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '	12 Perocché tu hai fatto in segreto, e io farò queste cose a vista di tutto Israele, e a vista di questo sole.
13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.	13 E David disse a Nathan: Ho peccato contro il Signore. E Nathan disse a David: Il Signore ancora ha tolto il tuo peccato: tu non morrai.
14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'	14 Ma perchè tu hai fatto che i nemici del Signore bestemmiassero per tal causa, il figliuolo che ti è nato, certamente morrà.
15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .	15 E Nathan se ne tornò a casa sua. E il Signore percosse il bambino partorito a David dalla moglie di Uria, e non vi restò speranza.
16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.	16 E David fece orazione al Signore pel bambino, e digiunò rigorosamente, e stava segregato, giacendo sopra la terra.
17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.	17 Ma andarono a lui i più vecchi domestici per astringerlo a levarsi da terra: ma nol volle fare, e non prese cibo con essi.
18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'	18 Or venne che al settimo giorno il bambino si morì: e i servi di David non ardivano di dargli la nuova della morte del bambino: perocché dicevano: Quando il bambino era tuttora in vita, noi gli parlavamo, ed egli non ascoltava le nostre parole: quanto più si affliggerà ove noi gli diciamo: II bambino è morto?
19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'	19 Ma veggendo David, come i suoi servi cicalavano sotto voce: comprese, che il bambino era morto; e disse a' suoi servi: E’ egli forse morto il bambino? Risposero: È morto.
20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.	20 Allora David si alzò da terra e si lavò, e si unse: e cangiate le vesti entrò nella casa del Signore, e lo adorò, e tornato a sua casa chiese, che gli portasser da mangiare e mangiò.
21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'	21 E i suoi servi gli dissero: Che vuol dir questo? quando il bambino era ancor vivo, tu hai digiunato, e pianto: morto che è stato, ti sei alzato, e hai mangiato.
22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."	22 Ed egli disse: Ho digiunato, e ho pianto a causa del bambino, mentr'ei vivea tuttora, perchè io diceva: Chi sa, che forse il Signore non me lo renda, e resti in vita il figliuolo?
23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'	23 Ma ora ch'egli è morto, perchè ho io da digiunare? Potrò io ancor ritornarlo alla vita? piuttosto andrò io a trovarlo: ma egli non tornerà a me.
24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him	24 E David racconsolò Bethsabea sua moglie, e andò a dormir con essa: ed ella ebbe un figliuolo, e gli diede il nome di Salomone, e il Signore lo amò.
25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.	25 E mandò il profeta Nathan, e gli fece porre il nome di Amabile al Signore, perchè il Signore lo amava.
26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.	26 Frattanto Gioab assediava Rabbath degli Ammoniti, e stava per espugnare quella città reale.
27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.	27 E spedì Gioab de’ messi a David per dirgli: Io ho fatto l’assedio della città di Rabbath, e sta per esser presa la città delle acque.
28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'	28 Tu adunque raduna adesso il rimanente del popolo, e dà l'assalto alla città, e fattene padrone affinchè essendo soggiogata da me non si ascriva a me la vittoria.
29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.	29 Davidde pertanto adunò tutto il popolo, e si mosse verso Rabbath, e assalitala, la prese.
30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'	30 E tolse dalla testa del loro re il diadema, che pesava un talento d'oro, e conteneva gemme di grandissimo pregio, il quale fu posto sulla testa di David. E riportò ancora grandissima preda della città:
31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.	31 E condottine via gli abitanti li fece segare, e fece passar sopra di loro dei carri con ruote di ferro; e li fece sbranare con coltelli, e gettare in fornaci da mattoni: così egli fece a tutte le città degli Ammoniti. E se ne tornò David con tutto l'esercito a Gerusalemme.
