2 Samuel 1

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Saul was dead and David, returning after his victory over the Amalekites, had been at Ziklag for twodays.	1 Après la mort de Saül, David, revenant de battre les Amalécites, demeura deux jours à Ciqlag.
2 On the third day, a man arrived from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and earth on his head. When hecame to David, he fel to the ground and prostrated himself.	2 Le troisième jour, un homme arriva du camp, d'auprès de Saül. Il avait les vêtements déchirés et latête couverte de poussière. En arrivant près de David, il se jeta à terre et se prosterna.
3 David asked him, 'Where have you come from?' 'I have escaped from the Israelite camp,' he said.	3 David lui dit: "D'où viens-tu?" Il répondit: "Je me suis sauvé du camp d'Israël."
4 David said, 'What has happened? Tell me.' He replied, 'The people fled from the battle, and many ofthem have fal en and are dead. Saul and his son Jonathan are dead too.'	4 David demanda: "Que s'est-il passé? Informe-moi donc!" L'autre dit: "C'est que le peuple s'estenfui de la bataille, et parmi le peuple beaucoup sont tombés et sont morts. Même, Saül et son fils Jonathan sontmorts!"
5 Then David asked the young man who brought the news, 'How do you know that Saul and his sonJonathan are dead?'	5 David demanda au jeune porteur de nouvelles: "Comment sais-tu que Saül et son fils Jonathansont morts?"
6 The young man replied, 'I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and there was Saul, leaning on his spear,with the chariots and the cavalry bearing down on him.	6 Le jeune porteur de nouvelles répondit: "Je me trouvais par hasard sur le mont Gelboé et je visSaül s'appuyant sur sa lance et serré de près par les chars et les cavaliers.
7 Glancing behind him and seeing me, he shouted to me. I replied, "Here I am!"	7 S'étant retourné, il m'aperçut et m'appela. Je répondis: Me voici!
8 He said, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am an Amalekite."	8 Il me demanda: Qui es-tu? Et je lui dis: Je suis un Amalécite.
9 He then said, "Come here and kil me. My head is swimming, although I still have al my strength."	9 Il me dit alors: Approche-toi de moi et tue-moi, car je suis saisi de vertige, bien que ma vie soittout entière en moi.
10 So I went over to him and killed him, because I knew that once he fel he could not survive. I then tookthe crown which he had on his head and the bracelet on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.'	10 Je m'approchai donc et lui donnai la mort, car je savais qu'il ne survivrait pas, une fois tombé.Puis j'ai pris le diadème qu'il avait sur la tête et le bracelet qu'il avait au bras et je les ai apportés ici àMonseigneur."
11 David then took hold of his clothes and tore them, and all the men with him did the same.	11 Alors David saisit ses vêtements et les déchira, et tous les hommes qui étaient avec lui firent demême.
12 They mourned and wept and fasted until the evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, for the people ofYahweh and for the House of Israel, because they had fal en by the sword.	12 Ils se lamentèrent, pleurèrent et jeûnèrent jusqu'au soir à cause de Saül, de son fils Jonathan, dupeuple de Yahvé et de la maison d'Israël, parce qu'ils étaient tombés par l'épée.
13 David said to the young man who had brought the news, 'Where are you from?' He replied, 'I am theson of a resident foreigner, an Amalekite.'	13 David demanda au jeune porteur de nouvelles: "D'où es-tu?" Et il répondit: "Je suis le fils d'unétranger en résidence, d'un Amalécite."
14 David said, 'How was it that you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy Yahweh's anointed?'	14 David lui dit: "Comment n'as-tu pas craint d'étendre la main pour faire périr l'oint de Yahvé?"
15 Then David called one of the young men. 'Come here,' he said, 'strike him down.' The man struck himand he died.	15 David appela l'un des garçons et dit: "Approche et frappe-le!" Celui-ci l'abattit et il mourut.
16 David said, 'Your blood be on your own head. You convicted yourself out of your own mouth bysaying, "I kil ed Yahweh's anointed." '	16 David lui dit: "Que ton sang retombe sur ta tête, car ta bouche a témoigné contre toi, quand tu asdit: C'est moi qui ai donné la mort à l'oint de Yahvé"
17 David sang the fol owing lament over Saul and his son Jonathan	17 David entonna cette complainte sur Saül et sur son fils Jonathan.
18 (it is for teaching archery to the children of Judah; it is written in the Book of the Just):	18 Il dit (c'est pour apprendre l'arc aux fils de Juda; c'est écrit au Livre du Juste:
19 Does the splendour of Israel lie dead on your heights? How did the heroes fal ?	19 "La splendeur d'Israël, sur tes hauteurs, a-t-elle péri? Comment sont tombés les héros?
20 Do not speak of it in Gath, nor broadcast it in the streets of Ashkelon, for fear the daughters of thePhilistines rejoice, for fear the daughters of the uncircumcised gloat.	20 Ne le publiez pas dans Gat, ne l'annoncez pas dans les rues d'Ashqelôn, que ne se réjouissent lesfilles des Philistins, que n'exultent les filles des incirconcis!
21 You mountains of Gilboa, no dew, no rain fal on you, O treacherous fields where the heroes' shieldlies dishonoured! Not greased with oil, the shield of Saul,	21 Montagnes de Gelboé, ni rosée ni pluie sur vous, campagnes traîtresses, puisqu'y fut déshonoré lebouclier des héros!
22 but with the blood of wounded men, the fat of warriors! The bow of Jonathan never turned back, thesword of Saul never came home unsated!	22 Le bouclier de Saül n'était pas oint d'huile, mais du sang des blessés, de la graisse des guerriers;l'arc de Jonathan jamais ne recula, ni l'épée de Saül ne revint inutile.
23 Saul and Jonathan, beloved and handsome, were divided neither in life, nor in death. Swifter thaneagles were they, stronger than lions.	23 Saül et Jonathan, aimés et charmants, dans la vie et dans la mort ne furent pas séparés. Plus queles aigles ils étaient rapides, plus que les lions ils étaient forts.
24 O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul who gave you scarlet and fine linen to wear, who pinned goldenjewel ery on your dresses!	24 Filles d'Israël, pleurez sur Saül, qui vous revêtait d'écarlate et de lin fin, qui accrochait des joyauxd'or à vos vêtements.
25 How did the heroes fall in the thick of the battle? Jonathan, by your dying I too am stricken,	25 Comment sont tombés les héros au milieu du combat? Jonathan, par ta mort je suis navré,
26 I am desolate for you, Jonathan my brother. Very dear you were to me, your love more wonderful tome than the love of a woman.	26 j'ai le coeur serré à cause de toi, mon frère Jonathan. Tu m'étais délicieusement cher, ton amitiém'était plus merveilleuse que l'amour des femmes.
27 How did the heroes fall and the weapons of war succumb!	27 Comment sont tombés les héros, ont péri les armes de guerre?"
