NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Saul was dead and David, returning after his victory over the Amalekites, had been at Ziklag for twodays.	1 Después de la muerte de Saúl, David volvió de derrotar a los amalecitas y permaneció dos días en Siquelag.
2 On the third day, a man arrived from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and earth on his head. When hecame to David, he fel to the ground and prostrated himself.	2 Al tercer día, llegó un hombre del campamento de Saúl, con la ropa hecha jirones y la cabeza cubierta de polvo. Cuando se presentó ante David, cayó con el rostro en tierra y se postró.
3 David asked him, 'Where have you come from?' 'I have escaped from the Israelite camp,' he said.	3 «¿De dónde vienes?», le preguntó David. El le respondió: «Me he escapado del campamento de Israel».
4 David said, 'What has happened? Tell me.' He replied, 'The people fled from the battle, and many ofthem have fal en and are dead. Saul and his son Jonathan are dead too.'	4 David añadió: «¿Qué ha sucedido? Cuéntame todo». Entonces él dijo: «La tropa huyó del campo de batalla y muchos del pueblo cayeron en el combate; también murieron Saúl y su hijo Jonatán».
5 Then David asked the young man who brought the news, 'How do you know that Saul and his sonJonathan are dead?'	5 David dijo al joven que la traía la noticia: «¿Cómo sabes que murieron Saúl y su hijo Jonatán?».
6 The young man replied, 'I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and there was Saul, leaning on his spear,with the chariots and the cavalry bearing down on him.	6 El joven respondió: «Yo estaba por casualidad en el monte Gelboé, y de pronto vi a Saúl apoyado en su lanza, mientras los carros y los caballos lo perseguían de cerca.
7 Glancing behind him and seeing me, he shouted to me. I replied, "Here I am!"	7 Al darse vuelta, me vio y me llamó. «Aquí estoy», le dije.
8 He said, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am an Amalekite."	8 El me preguntó: «¿Quién eres?». Yo le respondí: «Soy un amalecita».
9 He then said, "Come here and kil me. My head is swimming, although I still have al my strength."	9 Luego me dijo: «Acércate a mí y mátame, porque siento el estertor de la muerte, aunque todavía estoy con vida».
10 So I went over to him and killed him, because I knew that once he fel he could not survive. I then tookthe crown which he had on his head and the bracelet on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.'	10 Yo me abalancé sobre él y lo maté, porque sabía que no podría sobrevivir a su derrota. En seguida le quité la diadema que tenía en la cabeza y el brazalete que llevaba en el brazo, y aquí se los traigo a mi señor».
11 David then took hold of his clothes and tore them, and all the men with him did the same.	11 Entonces David rasgó sus vestiduras, y lo mismo hicieron todos los hombres que estaban con él.
12 They mourned and wept and fasted until the evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, for the people ofYahweh and for the House of Israel, because they had fal en by the sword.	12 Se lamentaron, lloraron y ayunaron hasta el atardecer por Saúl, por su hijo Jonatán, por el pueblo del Señor y por la casa de Israel, porque habían caído al filo de la espada.
13 David said to the young man who had brought the news, 'Where are you from?' He replied, 'I am theson of a resident foreigner, an Amalekite.'	13 David preguntó al joven que le había traído la noticia: «¿De dónde eres?». El respondió: «Soy el hijo de un forastero amalecita».
14 David said, 'How was it that you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy Yahweh's anointed?'	14 David le dijo: «¿Y cómo te has atrevido a extender tu mano para matar al ungido del Señor?».
15 Then David called one of the young men. 'Come here,' he said, 'strike him down.' The man struck himand he died.	15 Luego llamó a uno de los jóvenes y le ordenó: «¡Acércate y mátalo!». El joven le asestó un golpe mortal,
16 David said, 'Your blood be on your own head. You convicted yourself out of your own mouth bysaying, "I kil ed Yahweh's anointed." '	16 mientras David decía: «Que tu sangre recaiga sobre tu cabeza, ya que tu misma boca atestiguó contra ti, cuando dijiste: «Yo he dado muerte al ungido del Señor».
17 David sang the fol owing lament over Saul and his son Jonathan	17 David entonó este canto fúnebre por Saúl y su hijo Jonatán,
18 (it is for teaching archery to the children of Judah; it is written in the Book of the Just):	18 y le ordenó enseñarlo a la gente de Judá. Es el canto del Arco, y está escrito en el libro del Justo:
19 Does the splendour of Israel lie dead on your heights? How did the heroes fal ?	19 «¡Tu esplendor ha sucumbido, Israel, en las alturas de tus montañas! ¡Cómo han caído los héroes!
20 Do not speak of it in Gath, nor broadcast it in the streets of Ashkelon, for fear the daughters of thePhilistines rejoice, for fear the daughters of the uncircumcised gloat.	20 ¡No lo anuncien en Gat, no lo publiquen por las calles de Ascalón; que no se alegren las hijas de los filisteos, ni lo celebren las hijas de los incircuncisos!
21 You mountains of Gilboa, no dew, no rain fal on you, O treacherous fields where the heroes' shieldlies dishonoured! Not greased with oil, the shield of Saul,	21 ¡Montañas de Gelboé, que no caiga sobre ustedes rocío ni lluvia, ni se cubran de campos fructíferos! Porque allí fue mancillado el escudo de los héroes, el escudo de Saúl, ungido no con aceite, sino con sangre de heridos y grasas de guerreros.
22 but with the blood of wounded men, the fat of warriors! The bow of Jonathan never turned back, thesword of Saul never came home unsated!	22 ¡El arco de Jonatán no retrocedió jamás, nunca fallaba la espada de Saúl!
23 Saul and Jonathan, beloved and handsome, were divided neither in life, nor in death. Swifter thaneagles were they, stronger than lions.	23 ¡Saúl y Jonatán, amigos tan queridos, inseparables en la vida y en la muerte! Eran más veloces que águilas, más fuertes que leones.
24 O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul who gave you scarlet and fine linen to wear, who pinned goldenjewel ery on your dresses!	24 Hijas de Israel, lloren por Saúl, el que las vestía de púrpura y de joyas y les prendía alhajas de oro en los vestidos.
25 How did the heroes fall in the thick of the battle? Jonathan, by your dying I too am stricken,	25 ¡Cómo han caído los héroes en medio del combate! ¡Han sucumbido Jonatán en lo alto de tus montañas!
26 I am desolate for you, Jonathan my brother. Very dear you were to me, your love more wonderful tome than the love of a woman.	26 ¡Cuánto dolor siento por ti, Jonatán, hermano mío muy querido! Tu amistad era para mí más maravillosa que el amor de las mujeres.
27 How did the heroes fall and the weapons of war succumb!	27 ¡Cómo han caído los héroes, cómo han perecido las armas del combate!».
