NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 At this Joseph threw himself on his father's face, covering it with tears and kisses.	1 E GIUSEPPE, gittatosi sopra la faccia di suo padre, pianse sopra lui, e lo baciò.
2 Then Joseph ordered the doctors in his service to embalm his father. The doctors embalmed Israel,	2 Poi comandò a’ suoi servitori medici, che imbalsamassero suo padre. E i medici imbalsamarono Israele.
3 and it took them forty days, for embalming takes forty days to complete. The Egyptians mourned himfor seventy days.	3 E quaranta giorni intieri furono posti ad imbalsamarlo; perciocchè tanto tempo appunto si metteva ad imbalsamar coloro che s’imbalsamavano; e gli Egizj lo piansero per settanta giorni.
4 When the period of mourning for him was over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, 'If you have anyaffection for me, see that this message reaches Pharaoh's ears,	4 E, dopo che furono passati i giorni del pianto che si fece per lui, Giuseppe parlò alla famiglia di Faraone, dicendo: Deh! se io ho trovata grazia appo voi, parlate, vi prego, a Faraone, e ditegli:
5 "My father put me under oath, saying: I am about to die. In the tomb which I dug for myself in Canaan, that is where you are to bury me. So may I have leave to go up and bury my father, and then come back?" '	5 Che mio padre mi ha fatto giurare, dicendo: Ecco, io mi muoio; seppelliscimi nella mia sepoltura, la quale io mi ho cavata nel paese di Canaan. Deh! lascia ora dunque che io vada a seppellire mio padre; poi ritornerò.
6 Pharaoh replied, 'Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.'	6 E Faraone disse: Va’, seppellisci tuo padre, come egli ti ha fatto giurare
7 Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went all Pharaoh's officials, the dignitaries of hispalace and al the dignitaries of Egypt,	7 Giuseppe adunque salì, per seppellir suo padre; e con lui andarono tutti gli anziani della casa di Faraone, servitori di esso, e tutti gli anziani del paese di Egitto;
8 as wel as all Joseph's family, his brothers and his father's family. The only people they left behind inGoshen were those unfit to travel, and their flocks and cattle.	8 e tutta la famiglia di Giuseppe, e i suoi fratelli, e la famiglia di suo padre; sol lasciarono nella contrada di Gosen le lor famiglie, e le lor gregge, e i loro armenti.
9 Chariots and horsemen went up with him too; it was a very large retinue.	9 Con lui andarono eziandio carri e cavalieri; talchè lo stuolo fu grandissimo.
10 On arriving at Goren-ha-Atad, which is across the Jordan, they there held a long and solemnlamentation, and Joseph observed seven days' mourning for his father.	10 E, come furono giunti all’aia di Atad, che era di là dal Giordano, fecero quivi un grande e molto grave lamento. E Giuseppe fece cordoglio di suo padre per sette giorni.
11 When the Canaanites, the local inhabitants, witnessed the mourning at Goren-ha-Atad, they said,'This is a solemn act of mourning by the Egyptians,' which is why the place was given the name Abel-Mizraim-itis across the Jordan.	11 Or i Cananei, abitanti di quel paese, veggendo il cordoglio che si faceva nell’aia di Atad, dissero: Quest’è un duolo grave agli Egizj: perciò fu posto nome a quell’aia, Abel-Misraim, ch’è di là dal Giordano.
12 His sons did what he had ordered them to do for him.	12 E i figliuoli di Giacobbe gli fecero come egli avea lor comandato.
13 His sons carried him to Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field at Machpelah, facing Mamre,which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site of his own.	13 E lo portarono nel paese di Canaan, e lo seppellirono nella spelonca del campo di Macpela, dirimpetto a Mamre, la quale Abrahamo avea comperata, insieme col campo, da Efron Hitteo, per possession di sepoltura.
14 Then Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all those who had come up with him to bury hisfather.	14 E Giuseppe, dopo ch’ebbe seppellito suo padre, se ne ritornò in Egitto, co’ suoi fratelli, e con tutti coloro che erano andati con lui, per seppellir suo padre
15 Seeing that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers said, 'What if Joseph intends to treat us asenemies and pay us back for al the wrong we did him?'	15 Or i fratelli di Giuseppe, veggendo che il padre loro era morto, dissero: Forse Giuseppe ci porterà odio, e nimistà, e non mancherà di renderci tutto il male che gli abbiam fatto.
16 So they sent this message to Joseph: 'Before your father died, he gave us this order:	16 Laonde commisero ad alcuni di andare a Giuseppe, per dirgli; Tuo padre, avanti che morisse, ordinò, e disse:
17 "You are to say to Joseph: Now please forgive the crime and faults of your brothers and al thewrong they did you." So now please forgive the crime of the servants of your father's God.' Joseph wept at themessage they sent to him.	17 Dite così a Giuseppe: Perdona, ti prego, ora a’ tuoi fratelli il lor misfatto, e il lor peccato; conciossiachè essi ti abbiano fatto del male. Deh! perdona dunque ora a’ servitori dell’Iddio di tuo padre il lor misfatto. E Giuseppe pianse, quando coloro gli parlarono.
18 Then his brothers went to him themselves and, throwing themselves at his feet, said, 'Take us asyour slaves!'	18 I suoi fratelli andarono eziandio a lui; e, gittatisi in terra davanti a lui, gli dissero: Eccociti per servi.
19 But Joseph replied, 'Do not be afraid; is it for me to put myself in God's place?	19 Ma Giuseppe disse loro: Non temiate; perciocchè, sono io in luogo di Dio?
20 The evil you planned to do me has by God's design been turned to good, to bring about the presentresult: the survival of a numerous people.	20 Voi certo avevate pensato del male contro a me; ma Iddio ha pensato di convertir quel male in bene, per far ciò che oggi appare, per conservare in vita una gran gente.
21 So there is no need to be afraid; I shall provide for you and your dependants.' In this way hereassured them by speaking affectionately to them.	21 Ora dunque, non temiate; io sostenterò voi, e le vostre famiglie. Così li consolò, e li riconfortò
22 So Joseph stayed in Egypt with his father's family; and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.	22 E Giuseppe dimorò in Egitto, con la famiglia di suo padre, e visse centodieci anni.
23 Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's line, as also the children of Machir son of Manasseh,who were born on Joseph's lap.	23 E vide ad Efraim figliuoli della terza generazione; i figliuoli di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, nacquero anch’essi, e furono allevati sopra le ginocchia di Giuseppe.
24 At length Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am about to die; but God wil be sure to remember you kindlyand take you out of this country to the country which he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.'	24 E Giuseppe disse a’ suoi fratelli: Tosto morrò, e Iddio per certo vi visiterà, e vi farà salire fuor di questo paese, nel paese il quale egli giurò ad Abrahamo, a Isacco, e a Giacobbe.
25 And Joseph put Israel's sons on oath, saying, 'When God remembers you with kindness, be sure totake my bones away from here.'	25 E Giuseppe fece giurare i figliuoli d’Israele, dicendo: Iddio per certo vi visiterà; allora trasportate di qui le mie ossa.
26 Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten; he was embalmed and laid in a coffin in Egypt.	26 Poi Giuseppe morì, essendo di età di centodieci anni; e fu imbalsamato, e posto in un cataletto in Egitto
