Genesis 50

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 At this Joseph threw himself on his father's face, covering it with tears and kisses.	1 José cayó sobre el rostro de su padre, lloró sobre él y lo besó.
2 Then Joseph ordered the doctors in his service to embalm his father. The doctors embalmed Israel,	2 Luego encargó José a sus servidores médicos que embalsamaran a su padre, y los médicos embalsamaron a Israel.
3 and it took them forty days, for embalming takes forty days to complete. The Egyptians mourned himfor seventy days.	3 Emplearon en ellos cuarenta días, porque este es el tiempo que se emplea con los embalsamados. Y los egipcios le lloraron durante setenta días.
4 When the period of mourning for him was over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, 'If you have anyaffection for me, see that this message reaches Pharaoh's ears,	4 Transcurridos los días de luto por él, habló José a la casa de Faraón en estos términos: «Si he hallado gracia a vuestros ojos, por favor, haced llegar a oídos de Faraón esta palabra:
5 "My father put me under oath, saying: I am about to die. In the tomb which I dug for myself in Canaan, that is where you are to bury me. So may I have leave to go up and bury my father, and then come back?" '	5 Mi padre me tomó juramento diciendo: “Yo me muero. En el sepulcro que yo me labré en el país de Canaán, allí me has de sepultar.” Ahora, pues, permíteme que suba a sepultar a mi padre, y luego volveré.»
6 Pharaoh replied, 'Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.'	6 Dijo Faraón: «Sube y sepulta a tu padre como él te hizo jurar.»
7 Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went all Pharaoh's officials, the dignitaries of hispalace and al the dignitaries of Egypt,	7 Subió José a enterrar a su padre, y con él subieron todos los servidores de Faraón, los más viejos de palacio, y todos los ancianos de Egipto,
8 as wel as all Joseph's family, his brothers and his father's family. The only people they left behind inGoshen were those unfit to travel, and their flocks and cattle.	8 así como toda la familia de José, sus hermanos y la familia de su padre. Tan sólo a sus pequeñuelos, sus rebaños y vacadas, dejaron en el país de Gosen.
9 Chariots and horsemen went up with him too; it was a very large retinue.	9 Subieron con él además carros y aurigas: un cortejo muy considerable.
10 On arriving at Goren-ha-Atad, which is across the Jordan, they there held a long and solemnlamentation, and Joseph observed seven days' mourning for his father.	10 Llegados a Goren Haatad, que está allende el Jordán, hicieron allí un duelo muy grande y solemne, y José lloró a su padre durante siete días.
11 When the Canaanites, the local inhabitants, witnessed the mourning at Goren-ha-Atad, they said,'This is a solemn act of mourning by the Egyptians,' which is why the place was given the name Abel-Mizraim-itis across the Jordan.	11 Los cananeos, habitantes del país, vieron el duelo en Goren Haatad y dijeron: «Duelo de importancia es ése de los egipcios.» Por eso se llamó el lugar Abel Misráyim, que está allende el Jordán.
12 His sons did what he had ordered them to do for him.	12 Sus hijos, pues, hicieron por él como él se lo había mandado;
13 His sons carried him to Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field at Machpelah, facing Mamre,which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site of his own.	13 le llevaron sus hijos al país de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de la Makpelá, el campo que había comprado Abraham en propiedad sepulcral a Efrón el hitita, enfrente de Mambré.
14 Then Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all those who had come up with him to bury hisfather.	14 Regresó José a Egipto con sus hermanos, y todos cuantos habían subido con él a sepultar a su padre.
15 Seeing that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers said, 'What if Joseph intends to treat us asenemies and pay us back for al the wrong we did him?'	15 Vieron los hermanos de José que había muerto su padre y dijeron: «A ver si José nos guarda rencor y nos devuelve todo el daño que le hicimos.»
16 So they sent this message to Joseph: 'Before your father died, he gave us this order:	16 Por eso mandaron a José este recado: «Tu padre encargó antes de su muerte:
17 "You are to say to Joseph: Now please forgive the crime and faults of your brothers and al thewrong they did you." So now please forgive the crime of the servants of your father's God.' Joseph wept at themessage they sent to him.	17 “Así diréis a José: Por favor, perdona el crimen de tus hermanos y su pecado.” Cierto que te hicieron daño, pero ahora tú perdona el crimen de los siervos del Dios de tu padre.» Y José lloró mientras le hablaban.
18 Then his brothers went to him themselves and, throwing themselves at his feet, said, 'Take us asyour slaves!'	18 Fueron entonces sus hermanos personalmente y cayendo delante de él dijeron: «Henos aquí, esclavos tuyos somos.»
19 But Joseph replied, 'Do not be afraid; is it for me to put myself in God's place?	19 Replicóles José: «No temáis, ¿estoy yo acaso en vez de Dios?
20 The evil you planned to do me has by God's design been turned to good, to bring about the presentresult: the survival of a numerous people.	20 Aunque vosotros pensasteis hacerme daño, Dios lo pensó para bien, para hacer sobrevivir, como hoy ocurre, a un pueblo numeroso.
21 So there is no need to be afraid; I shall provide for you and your dependants.' In this way hereassured them by speaking affectionately to them.	21 Así que no temáis; yo os mantendré a vosotros y a vuestros pequeñuelos.» Y les consoló y les habló con afecto.
22 So Joseph stayed in Egypt with his father's family; and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.	22 José permaneció en Egipto junto con la familia de su padre, y alcanzó José la edad de 110 años.
23 Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's line, as also the children of Machir son of Manasseh,who were born on Joseph's lap.	23 José vio a los biznietos de Efraím; asimismo los hijos de Makir, hijo de Manasés, nacieron sobre las rodillas de José.
24 At length Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am about to die; but God wil be sure to remember you kindlyand take you out of this country to the country which he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.'	24 Por último, José dijo a sus hermanos: «Yo muero, pero Dios se ocupará sin falta de vosotros y os hará subir de este país al país que juró a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob.»
25 And Joseph put Israel's sons on oath, saying, 'When God remembers you with kindness, be sure totake my bones away from here.'	25 José hizo jurar a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: «Dios os visitará sin falta, y entonces os llevaréis mis huesos de aquí.»
26 Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten; he was embalmed and laid in a coffin in Egypt.	26 Y José murió a la edad de 110 años; le embalsamaron, y se le puso en una caja en Egipto.
