1 Then Joseph could not control his feelings in front of al his retainers, and he exclaimed, 'Let everyoneleave me.' No one therefore was present with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers,	1 - Giuseppe non poteva più oltre contenersi alla presenza di tanti; perciò dette ordine che tutti uscissero, e nessun estraneo si trovasse presente al reciproco riconoscimento.
2 but he wept so loudly that al the Egyptians heard, and the news reached Pharaoh's palace.	2 Alzò la voce piangendo, e l'udirono gli Egiziani e tutta la casa del Faraone.
3 Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph. Is my father real y stil alive?' His brothers could not answerhim, they were so dumbfounded at seeing him.	3 E disse ai fratelli suoi: «Io sono Giuseppe; vive dunque ancora il padre mio?». Quelli, presi dallo spavento, nemmeno potevan rispondere.
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, 'Come closer to me.' When they had come closer to him he said, 'Iam your brother Joseph whom you sold into Egypt.	4 Ma egli disse loro benevolmente: «Avvicinatevi». Ed essendosi essi avvicinati, disse: «Io sono Giuseppe vostro fratello, che voi vendeste, [e che fu condotto] in Egitto.
5 But now, do not grieve, do not reproach yourselves for having sold me here, since God sent mebefore you to preserve your lives.	5 Non temete, e non rimpiangete d'avermi venduto in questi paesi; Iddio infatti mi mandò avanti a voi in Egitto, per il vostro bene.
6 For this is the second year there has been famine in the country, and there are still five years to comewithout ploughing or harvest.	6 Son due anni da che la fame ha cominciato a farsi sentire, e ne restano altri cinque nei quali non si potrà nè arare nè mietere.
7 God sent me before you to assure the survival of your race on earth and to save your lives by a greatdeliverance.	7 Iddio mi ha mandato innanzi perchè foste conservati in vita, e poteste avere gli alimenti necessari.
8 So it was not you who sent me here but God, and he has set me up as a father to Pharaoh, as lord ofal his household and governor of the whole of Egypt.	8 Non per volontà vostra sono stato mandato qui, ma per consiglio di Dio, il quale m'ha fatto essere come padre del Faraone, signore di tutta la sua casa, e governatore di tutto l'Egitto.
9 'Return quickly to your father and tel him, "Your son Joseph says this: 'God has made me lord of alEgypt. Come down to me without delay.	9 Affrettatevi a tornare al padre mio, e ditegli: - Questo ti fa sapere il figlio tuo Giuseppe: " Iddio mi ha posto a capo di tutto l'Egitto; vieni a me, non indugiare;
10 You wil live in the region of Goshen where you wil be near me, you, your children and yourgrandchildren, your flocks, your cattle and al your possessions.	10 abiterai nella terra di Gessen, e starai vicino a me, tu, i tuoi figli, i figli de' tuoi figli, le pecore, gli armenti, e tutto quel che possiedi.
11 There I shal provide for you -- for there are five years of famine stil to come -- so that you, yourhousehold and all yours are not reduced to penury.' "	11 Ivi io ti manterrò, giacchè vi saranno altri cinque anni di fame, acciò tu non perisca, tu, la tua casa, e tutto quello che ti appartiene ". -
12 You can see with your own eyes, and my brother Benjamin can see too, that I am who I say I am.	12 Ecco, gli occhi vostri e gli occhi del mio fratello Beniamino veggono come io in persona vi parlo.
13 Give my father a ful report of al the honour I enjoy in Egypt, and of al you have seen; and quicklybring my father down here.'	13 Annunziate a mio padre tutta la mia gloria, e tutto quel che avete veduto in Egitto. Affrettatevi, e conducetelo a me».
14 Then throwing his arms round the neck of his brother Benjamin he wept; and Benjamin wept on hisshoulder.	14 Poi, gettate di nuovo le braccia al collo di Beniamino suo fratello, pianse, mentre questi similmente piangeva sul collo di lui.
15 He kissed al his brothers, weeping on each one. Only then were his brothers able to talk to him.	15 E baciò Giuseppe tutti i suoi fratelli, piangendo con ciascuno di loro. Dopo di che, presero animo a parlargli.
16 News reached Pharaoh's palace that Joseph's brothers had come, and Pharaoh was pleased to hearit, as were his servants.	16 Si seppe dunque, e se ne sparse la voce per tutta la corte del re, che erano arrivati i fratelli di Giuseppe. Se ne rallegrò il Faraone con tutti i suoi ministri,
17 Pharaoh told Joseph, 'Say to your brothers, "Do this: load your beasts and hurry away to Canaan.	17 e disse a Giuseppe di dare ai suoi fratelli quest'ordine: «Caricate i giumenti, e tornate nella terra di Canaan;
18 Fetch your father and your families, and come back to me. I will give you the best territory in Egypt,where you wil live off the fat of the land."	18 di lì conducete via il padre vostro e la parentela, e venite a me; vi metterò a parte di tutti i beni dell'Egitto, acciò gustiate il midollo della terra».
19 And you, for your part, give them this order: "Do this: take waggons from Egypt, for your little onesand your wives. Get your father and come.	19 [Disse il Faraone a Giuseppe]: «Dà ordine che prendano carri d'Egitto per il trasporto dei bambini e delle mogli; e dì loro: - Prendete il padre vostro, ed affrettatevi a venire quanto prima;
20 Never mind about your property, for the best of all Egypt will be yours." '	20 non vi date pena delle vostre masserizie, perchè tutte le ricchezze dell'Egitto saranno vostre -».
21 Israel's sons did as they were told. Joseph gave them waggons as Pharaoh had ordered, and hegave them provisions for the journey.	21 Fecero i figli d'Israele quel che era stato loro detto. E Giuseppe dette loro i carri, secondo l'ordine del Faraone, e le provviste per il viaggio.
22 To each and every one he gave new clothes, and to Benjamin three hundred shekels of silver andfive changes of clothes.	22 Fece anche dare due vesti a ciascuno; a Beniamino poi dette trecento monete d'argento, e cinque vesti preziose.
23 And to his father he sent ten donkeys laden with the best that Egypt offered, and ten she-donkeysladen with grain, bread and food for his father's journey.	23 Al padre suo mandò altrettanto danaro ed altrettante vesti, aggiungendovi dieci asini carichi di tutti i prodotti dell'Egitto, ed altrettante asine cariche di grano e di pane per il viaggio.
24 And so he sent his brothers on their way. His final words to them were, 'And let there be no upsetson the way!'	24 Congedò dunque i fratelli, e quando partivano disse loro: «Non vi questionate nel viaggio».
25 And so they left Egypt. When they reached their father Jacob in Canaan,	25 Quelli partiti dall'Egitto vennero nella terra di Canaan al padre loro Giacobbe,
26 they gave him this report, 'Joseph is stil alive. He is at this moment governor of al Egypt!' But hewas as one stunned, for he did not believe them.	26 e gli annunziarono e dissero: «Il figlio tuo Giuseppe è vivo, e comanda a tutta la terra d'Egitto». Il che udendo Giacobbe, come svegliato da un grave sonno, pure non credeva loro.
27 However, when they told him all Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the waggons thatJoseph had sent to fetch him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived,	27 Ma quelli gli riferivano per ordine tutto l'accaduto. Quando poi vide i carri, e tutte le cose che Giuseppe aveva mandato, si sentì rivivere,
28 and Israel said, 'That is enough! My son Joseph is stil alive. I must go and see him before I die.'	28 e disse: «Mi basta che Giuseppe figlio mio viva ancora; andrò a rivederlo, prima di morire».
