Genesis 45

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Then Joseph could not control his feelings in front of al his retainers, and he exclaimed, 'Let everyoneleave me.' No one therefore was present with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers,	1 Alors Joseph ne put se contenir devant tous les gens de sa suite et il s'écria: "Faites sortir tout lemonde d'auprès de moi"; et personne ne resta auprès de lui pendant que Joseph se faisait connaître à ses frères,
2 but he wept so loudly that al the Egyptians heard, and the news reached Pharaoh's palace.	2 mais il pleura tout haut et tous les Egyptiens entendirent, et la nouvelle parvint au palais dePharaon.
3 Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph. Is my father real y stil alive?' His brothers could not answerhim, they were so dumbfounded at seeing him.	3 Joseph dit à ses frères: "Je suis Joseph! Mon père vit-il encore?" Et ses frères ne purent luirépondre, car ils étaient bouleversés de le voir.
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, 'Come closer to me.' When they had come closer to him he said, 'Iam your brother Joseph whom you sold into Egypt.	4 Alors Joseph dit à ses frères: "Approchez-vous de moi!" et ils s'approchèrent. Il dit: "Je suisJoseph, votre frère, que vous avez vendu en Egypte.
5 But now, do not grieve, do not reproach yourselves for having sold me here, since God sent mebefore you to preserve your lives.	5 Mais maintenant ne soyez pas chagrins et ne vous fâchez pas de m'avoir vendu ici, car c'est pourpréserver vos vies que Dieu m'a envoyé en avant de vous.
6 For this is the second year there has been famine in the country, and there are still five years to comewithout ploughing or harvest.	6 Voici, en effet, deux ans que la famine est installée dans le pays et il y aura encore cinq annéessans labour ni moisson.
7 God sent me before you to assure the survival of your race on earth and to save your lives by a greatdeliverance.	7 Dieu m'a envoyé en avant de vous pour assurer la permanence de votre race dans le pays et sauvervos vies pour une grande délivrance.
8 So it was not you who sent me here but God, and he has set me up as a father to Pharaoh, as lord ofal his household and governor of the whole of Egypt.	8 Ainsi, ce n'est pas vous qui m'avez envoyé ici, c'est Dieu, et il m'a établi comme père pourPharaon, comme maître sur toute sa maison, comme gouverneur dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
9 'Return quickly to your father and tel him, "Your son Joseph says this: 'God has made me lord of alEgypt. Come down to me without delay.	9 "Remontez vite chez mon père et dites-lui: Ainsi parle ton fils Joseph: Dieu m'a établi maître surtoute l'Egypte. Descends auprès de moi sans tarder.
10 You wil live in the region of Goshen where you wil be near me, you, your children and yourgrandchildren, your flocks, your cattle and al your possessions.	10 Tu habiteras dans le pays de Goshèn et tu seras près de moi, toi-même, tes enfants, tes petits-enfants, ton petit et ton gros bétail, et tout ce qui t'appartient.
11 There I shal provide for you -- for there are five years of famine stil to come -- so that you, yourhousehold and all yours are not reduced to penury.' "	11 Là, je pourvoirai à ton entretien, car la famine durera encore cinq années, pour que tu ne sois pasdans l'indigence, toi, ta famille et tout ce qui est à toi.
12 You can see with your own eyes, and my brother Benjamin can see too, that I am who I say I am.	12 Vous voyez de vos propres yeux et mon frère Benjamin voit que c'est ma bouche qui vous parle.
13 Give my father a ful report of al the honour I enjoy in Egypt, and of al you have seen; and quicklybring my father down here.'	13 Racontez à mon père toute la gloire que j'ai en Egypte et tout ce que vous avez vu, et hâtez-vousde faire descendre ici mon père."
14 Then throwing his arms round the neck of his brother Benjamin he wept; and Benjamin wept on hisshoulder.	14 Alors il se jeta au cou de son frère Benjamin et pleura. Benjamin aussi pleura à son cou.
15 He kissed al his brothers, weeping on each one. Only then were his brothers able to talk to him.	15 Puis il couvrit tous ses frères de baisers et pleura en les embrassant. Après quoi, ses frèress'entretinrent avec lui.
16 News reached Pharaoh's palace that Joseph's brothers had come, and Pharaoh was pleased to hearit, as were his servants.	16 La nouvelle parvint au palais de Pharaon que les frères de Joseph étaient venus, et Pharaoncomme ses officiers virent cela d'un bon oeil.
17 Pharaoh told Joseph, 'Say to your brothers, "Do this: load your beasts and hurry away to Canaan.	17 Pharaon parla ainsi à Joseph: "Dis à tes frères: Faites ceci: chargez vos bêtes et allez-vous-en aupays de Canaan.
18 Fetch your father and your families, and come back to me. I will give you the best territory in Egypt,where you wil live off the fat of the land."	18 Prenez votre père et vos familles et revenez vers moi; je vous donnerai le meilleur de la terred'Egypte et vous vous nourrirez de la graisse du pays.
19 And you, for your part, give them this order: "Do this: take waggons from Egypt, for your little onesand your wives. Get your father and come.	19 Pour toi, donne-leur cet ordre: Agissez ainsi: emmenez du pays d'Egypte des chariots pour vospetits enfants et vos femmes, prenez votre père et venez.
20 Never mind about your property, for the best of all Egypt will be yours." '	20 N'ayez pas un regard de regret pour ce que vous laisserez, car ce qu'il y a de meilleur dans toutel'Egypte sera pour vous."
21 Israel's sons did as they were told. Joseph gave them waggons as Pharaoh had ordered, and hegave them provisions for the journey.	21 Ainsi firent les fils d'Israël. Joseph leur procura des chariots selon l'ordre de Pharaon, et les munitde provisions de route.
22 To each and every one he gave new clothes, and to Benjamin three hundred shekels of silver andfive changes of clothes.	22 A chacun d'eux il donna un habit de fête, mais à Benjamin il donna 300 sicles d'argent et cinqhabits de fête.
23 And to his father he sent ten donkeys laden with the best that Egypt offered, and ten she-donkeysladen with grain, bread and food for his father's journey.	23 De la même manière, il envoya à son père dix ânes chargés des meilleurs produits d'Egypte et dixânesses portant du blé, du pain et des vivres pour le voyage de son père.
24 And so he sent his brothers on their way. His final words to them were, 'And let there be no upsetson the way!'	24 Puis il congédia ses frères qui partirent, non sans qu'il leur eût dit: "Ne vous excitez pas enchemin!"
25 And so they left Egypt. When they reached their father Jacob in Canaan,	25 Ils remontèrent donc d'Egypte et arrivèrent au pays de Canaan, chez leur père Jacob.
26 they gave him this report, 'Joseph is stil alive. He is at this moment governor of al Egypt!' But hewas as one stunned, for he did not believe them.	26 Ils lui annoncèrent: "Joseph est encore vivant, c'est même lui qui gouverne tout le pays d'Egypte!"Mais son cœur resta inerte, car il ne les crut pas.
27 However, when they told him all Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the waggons thatJoseph had sent to fetch him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived,	27 Cependant, quand ils lui eurent répété toutes les paroles que Joseph leur avait dites, quand il vitles chariots que Joseph avait envoyés pour le prendre, alors l'esprit de Jacob, leur père, se ranima.
28 and Israel said, 'That is enough! My son Joseph is stil alive. I must go and see him before I die.'	28 Et Israël dit: "Cela suffit! Joseph, mon fils, est encore vivant! Que j'aille le voir avant que je nemeure!"
