1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,	1 Dois anos depois Faraó teve um sonho. Parecia-lhe que estava na margem do rio,
2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	2 do qual saiam sete vacas, muito formosas e gordas, as quais pastavam nos lugares palustres.
3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Saiam também outras sete do rio, desfiguradas e consumidas de magreza, as quais pastavam na mesma margem do rio, em lugares cheios de erva:
4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.	4 (estas) devoravam aquelas que eram belas de aspecto e gordas de corpo. Tendo Faraó despertado,
5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.	5 adormeceu novamente, e teve outro sonho; sete espigas saiam do mesmo caule, cheias de grãos e formosas;
6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.	6 e nasciam também outras tantas espigas delgadas e queimadas do vento,
7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.	7 as quais devoravam todas as primeiras que eram tão belas. Despertando Faraó do sono,
8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.	8 de manhã, cheio de pavor, mandou chamar todos os adivinhos do Egito e todos os sábios; estando reunidos, contou-lhes o sonho e não havia quem lho esplicasse.
9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.	9 Então, finalmente, lembrando-se o copeiro-mór (de José) disse: Confesso a minha falta.
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.	10 Tendo-se o rei irado contra os seus servos, mandou que eu e o padeiro-mór fôssemos metidos no cárcere do chefe da guarda;
11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.	11 ai, uma noite, ambos nós tivemos um sonho que presagiava o futuro.
12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.	12 Achava-se lá um jovem hebreu, servo do mesmo chefe da guarda. Tendo-lhe nós referidos os sonhos,
13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'	13 ouvimos tudo o que depois os factos comprovaram: Eu fui restituído ao meu ofício e o outro foi pendurado em uma forca.
14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.	14 Imediatamente José foi tirado do cárcere por mandado do rei. Barbeou-se, mudou de roupa e foi ter com Faraó.
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'	15 Este disse-lhe; Tive uns sonhos, e não há quem os interprete; ouvi dizer que tu sabes explicar os sonhos que te contam.
16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'	16 José respondeu: Não sou eu, é Deus quem dará uma resposta favorável a Faraó,
17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.	17 Faraó, pois, contou o que tinha visto: Parecia-me estar sobre a margem do rio,
18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	18 e que saíam do rio sete vacas, em extremo formosas, e muito gordas, as quais pastavam a erva verde nos lugares palustres;
19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.	19 a seguir, atrás destas, vinham outras sete vacas tão disformes e magras, que nunca as vi semelhantes na terra do Egito,
20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.	20 as quais devoraram e consumiram as primeiras,
21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.	21 Sem que parecessem tê-las engolido, pois ficaram tão macilentas e feias como antes. Acordei, fui novamente oprimido pelo sono,
22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;	22 e tive este sonho: sete espigas saíam do mesmo caule cheias (de grãos) e formosas:
23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.	23 outras sete, delgadas e queimadas do vento nasciam doutro caule,
24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'	24 as quais devoravam as primeiras, que eram tão belas. Referi aos adivinhos o sonho, e não há quem o explique.
25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.	25 José respondeu: O sonho do rei reduz-se a um só: Deus mostrou a Faraó o que está para fazer.
26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.	26 As sete vacas formosas, e as sete espigas cheias, (de grãos), são sete anos de abundância: no sonho têm a mesma significação.
27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.	27 As sete vacas magras e macilentas, que subiram (do rio) após as primeiras, e as sete espigas delgadas e queimadas do vento, são sete anos de fome que estão para vir.
28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.	28 Isto cumprir-se-á por esta ordem:
29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,	29 virão sete anos de grande fertilidade por toda a terra do Egito,
30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.	30 depois dos quais se seguirão outros sete anos de tanta esterilidade que será esquecida toda a abundância passada; com efeito, a fome há-de consumir toda a terra.
31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.	31 e a grandeza da penúria há-de absorver a grandeza da abundância.
32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.	32 Quanto ao segundo sonho que tivestes, que se refere à mesma coisa, é um sinal certo de que se há-de executar a palavra de Deus, e prontamente se cumprirá.
33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.	33 Agora, pois, escolha, o rei um homem sábio e ativo, a quem dê autoridade sobre a terra do Egito:
34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.	34 este ;(homem) estabeleça superintendentes por todas as províncias: a quinta parte dos frutos nos sete anos de fertilidade,
35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.	35 que já estão para começar, seja recolhida nos celeiros: guarde-se todo o trigo debaixo do poder do Faraó, conserve-se nas cidades,
36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'	36 e tenha-se preparado para a futura fome dos sete anos, que há-de oprimir o Egito. Assim o país não será consumido pela fome.
37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.	37 Agradou o conselho a Faraó e a todos os seus ministros.
38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'	38 Disse-lhes: Poderemos nós encontrar um homem como este, que esteja (tão) cheio de espirito de Deus?
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.	39 Disse, pois, a José; Visto que Deus te manifestou tudo o que disseste, poderei eu encontrar alguém mais inteligente e sábio do que tu?
40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'	40 Tu governarás a minha casa, e, ao mando da tua voz, obedecerá todo o povo; eu não terei sobre ti outra precedência além do trono.
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'	41 Faraó disse mais a José: Dou-te autoridade sobre toda a terra do Egito.
42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.	42 E tirou o anel da sua mão, meteu-o na mão dele, mandou-lhe um hábito branco de linho fino, e pôs-lhe ao pescoço um colar de oiro;
43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.	43 fê-lo subir para o seu segundo coche, clamando o pregoeiro que todos ajoelhassem, diante dele, e soubessem que era o superintendente de toda a terra do Egito.
44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'	44 Disse também o rei a José: Eu sou Faraó; sem o teu mando ninguém moverá mão ou pé em toda a terra do Egito.
45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.	45 Mudou-lhe o nome, e chamou-o, na lingua egípcia, Salvador do Mundo. Deu-lhe por mulher a Aseneth, filha de Putifar, sacerdote de Heliópolis. Saiu, portanto, José a correr a terra do Egito,
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.	46 (tinha trinta anos quando se apresentou diante do rei Faraó), e percorreu todas as provindas do Egito.
47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.	47 Veio a fertilidade dos sete anos, e, atado o trigo aos molhos, foi recolhido nos celeiros do Egito.
48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.	48 Recolheu-se também em cada uma das cidades toda a abundância de frutos.
49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.	49 Foi tanta a abundância do trigo, que igualava a areia do mar, e a quantidade excedia toda a medida.
50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.	50 Nasceram a José dois filhos antes de chegar a fome, os quais lhe foram dados à luz por Aseneth, filha de Putifar, sacerdote de Heliópolis.
51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'	51 Ao primogênito pôs o nome de Manassés, dizendo: Deus me fez esquecer de todos os meus trabalhos, e da casa de meu pai.
52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'	52 Ao segundo pôs o nome de Efraim, dizendo: Deus me fez crescer, na terra da minha aflição.
53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,	53 Passados os sete anos da abundância, que houve no Egito,
54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.	54 começaram a vir os sete anos de escassez que José prognosticara. Em todo o mundo, se fez sentir a fome: porém em toda a terra do Egito havia pão.
55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'	55 Quando também o Egito sentiu a fome, o povo clamou a Faraó, pedindo sustento. Ele respondeu-lhes: Ide a José e fazei tudo o que ele vos disser.
56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.	56 Ora a fome crescia todos os dias em toda a terra, e José abriu todos os celeiros, e vendia aos Egípcios, porque também a eles oprimia a fome.
57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.	57 De todas as partes vinham ao Egito, para comprar de comer porque a fome era grande em toda a terra.
