Genesis 41

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,	1 Deux ans après, il advint que Pharaon eut un songe: il se tenait près du Nil
2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	2 et il vit monter du Nil sept vaches de belle apparence et grasses de chair, qui pâturèrent dans lesjoncs.
3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Mais voici que sept autres vaches montèrent du Nil derrière elles, laides d'apparence et maigres dechair, et elles se rangèrent à côté des premières, sur la rive du Nil.
4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.	4 Et les vaches laides d'apparence et maigres de chair dévorèrent les sept vaches grasses et bellesd'apparence. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla.
5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.	5 Il se rendormit et eut un second songe: sept épis montaient d'une même tige, gros et beaux.
6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.	6 Mais voici que sept épis grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est poussèrent après eux.
7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.	7 Et les épis grêles engloutirent les sept épis gros et pleins. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla: voilà que c'étaitun songe!
8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.	8 Au matin, l'esprit troublé, Pharaon fit appeler tous les magiciens et tous les sages d'Egypte et il leurraconta le songe qu'il avait eu, mais personne ne put l'expliquer à Pharaon.
9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.	9 Alors, le grand échanson adressa la parole à Pharaon et dit: "Je dois confesser aujourd'hui mesfautes!
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.	10 Pharaon s'était irrité contre ses serviteurs et les avait mis aux arrêts chez le commandant desgardes, moi et le grand panetier.
11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.	11 Nous eûmes un songe, la même nuit, lui et moi, mais la signification du songe était différentepour chacun.
12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.	12 Il y avait là avec nous un jeune Hébreu, un esclave du commandant des gardes. Nous lui avonsraconté nos songes et il nous les a interprétés: il a interprété le songe de chacun.
13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'	13 Et juste comme il nous l'avait expliqué, ainsi arriva-t-il: je fus rétabli dans mon emploi et l'autrefut pendu."
14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.	14 Alors Pharaon fit appeler Joseph, et on l'amena en hâte de la prison. Il se rasa, changea devêtements et se présenta devant Pharaon.
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'	15 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "J'ai eu un songe et personne ne peut l'interpréter. Mais j'ai entendu dire detoi qu'il te suffit d'entendre un songe pour savoir l'interpréter."
16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'	16 Joseph répondit à Pharaon: "Je ne compte pas! C'est Dieu qui donnera à Pharaon une réponsefavorable."
17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.	17 Alors Pharaon parla ainsi à Joseph: "Dans mon songe, il me semblait que je me tenais sur la rivedu Nil.
18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	18 Voici que montèrent du Nil sept vaches grasses de chair et belles d'aspect, qui pâturèrent dans lesjoncs.
19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.	19 Mais voici que sept autres vaches montèrent après elles, efflanquées, très laides d'aspect etmaigres de chair, je n'en ai jamais vu d'aussi laides dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.	20 Les vaches maigres et laides dévorèrent les sept premières, les vaches grasses.
21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.	21 Et lorsqu'elles les eurent avalées, on ne s'aperçut pas qu'elles les avaient avalées, car leurapparence était aussi laide qu'au début. Là-dessus, je m'éveillai.
22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;	22 Puis j'ai vu en songe sept épis monter d'une même tige, pleins et beaux.
23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.	23 Mais voici que sept épis desséchés, grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est poussèrent après eux.
24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'	24 Et les épis grêles engloutirent les sept beaux épis. J'ai dit cela aux magiciens mais il n'y apersonne qui me donne la réponse."
25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.	25 Joseph dit à Pharaon: "Le Pharaon n'a fait qu'un seul songe: Dieu a annoncé à Pharaon ce qu'il vaaccomplir.
26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.	26 Les sept belles vaches représentent sept années, et les sept beaux épis représentent sept années,c'est un seul et même songe.
27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.	27 Les sept vaches maigres et laides qui montent ensuite représentent sept années et aussi les septépis grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est: c'est qu'il y aura sept années de famine.
28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.	28 C'est ce que j'ai dit à Pharaon; Dieu a montré à Pharaon ce qu'il va accomplir:
29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,	29 voici que viennent sept années où il y aura grande abondance dans tout le pays d'Egypte,
30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.	30 puis leur succéderont sept années de famine et on oubliera toute l'abondance dans le paysd'Egypte; la famine épuisera le pays
31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.	31 et l'on ne saura plus ce qu'était l'abondance dans le pays, en face de cette famine qui suivra, carelle sera très dure.
32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.	32 Et si le songe de Pharaon s'est renouvelé deux fois, c'est que la chose est bien décidée de la partde Dieu et que Dieu a hâte de l'accomplir.
33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.	33 "Maintenant, que Pharaon discerne un homme intelligent et sage et qu'il l'établisse sur le paysd'Egypte.
34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.	34 Que Pharaon agisse et qu'il institue des fonctionnaires sur le pays; il imposera au cinquième lepays d'Egypte pendant les sept années d'abondance,
35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.	35 ils ramasseront tous les vivres de ces bonnes années qui viennent, ils emmagasineront le blé sousl'autorité de Pharaon, ils mettront les vivres dans les villes et les y garderont.
36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'	36 Ces vivres serviront de réserve au pays pour les sept années de famine qui s'abattront sur le paysd'Egypte, et le pays ne sera pas exterminé par la famine."
37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.	37 Le discours plut à Pharaon et à tous ses officiers
38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'	38 et Pharaon dit à ses officiers: "Trouverons-nous un homme comme celui-ci, en qui soit l'esprit deDieu?"
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.	39 Alors Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Après que Dieu t'a fait connaître tout cela, il n'y a personned'intelligent et de sage comme toi.
40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'	40 C'est toi qui seras mon maître du palais et tout mon peuple se conformera à tes ordres, je ne tedépasserai que par le trône."
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'	41 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Vois: je t'établis sur tout le pays d'Egypte"
42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.	42 et Pharaon ôta son anneau de sa main et le mit à la main de Joseph, il le revêtit d'habits de lin finet lui passa au coule collier d'or.
43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.	43 Il le fit monter sur le meilleur char qu'il avait après le sien et on criait devant lui "Abrek." Ainsifut-il établi surtout le pays d'Egypte.
44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'	44 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Je suis Pharaon, mais sans ta permission personne ne lèvera la main ni lepied dans tout le pays d'Egypte."
45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.	45 Et Pharaon imposa à Joseph le nom de Cophnat-Panéah et il lui donna pour femme Asnat, fille dePoti-Phéra, prêtre d'On. Et Joseph partit pour le pays d'Egypte.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.	46 Joseph avait 30 ans lorsqu'il se présenta devant Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et Joseph quitta la présencede Pharaon et parcourut tout le pays d'Egypte.
47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.	47 Pendant les sept années d'abondance, la terre produisit à profusion
48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.	48 et il ramassa tous les vivres des sept années où il y eut abondance au pays d'Egypte et déposa lesvivres dans les villes, mettant dans chaque ville les vivres de la campagne environnante.
49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.	49 Joseph emmagasina le blé comme le sable de la mer, en telle quantité qu'on renonça à en faire lecompte, car cela dépassait toute mesure.
50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.	50 Avant que vînt l'année de la famine, il naquit à Joseph deux fils que lui donna Asnat, fille de Poti-Phéra, prêtre d'On.
51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'	51 Joseph donna à l'aîné le nom de Manassé, "car, dit-il, Dieu m'a fait oublier toute ma peine et toutela famille de mon père."
52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'	52 Quant au second, il l'appela Ephraïm, "car, dit-il, Dieu m'a rendu fécond au pays de monmalheur."
53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,	53 Alors prirent fin les sept années d'abondance qu'il y eut au pays d'Egypte
54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.	54 et commencèrent à venir les sept années de famine, comme l'avait dit Joseph. Il y avait faminedans tous les pays, mais il y avait du pain dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'	55 Puis tout le pays d'Egypte souffrit de la faim et le peuple demanda à grands cris du pain àPharaon, mais Pharaon dit à tous les Egyptiens: "Allez à Joseph et faites ce qu'il vous dira" --
56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.	56 La famine sévissait par toute la terre. -- Alors Joseph ouvrit tous les magasins à blé et vendit dugrain aux Egyptiens. La famine s'aggrava encore au pays d'Egypte.
57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.	57 De toute la terre on vint en Egypte pour acheter du grain à Joseph, car la famine s'aggravait partoute la terre.
