Genesis 41

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,	1 Al termine di due anni, anche il faraone sognò di trovarsi presso il Nilo.
2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	2 Ed ecco salire dal Nilo sette vacche, belle di aspetto e grasse di carne, e mettersi a pascolare nella macchia di papiro.
3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Dopo quelle, ecco altre sette vacche salire dal Nilo, brutte di aspetto e magre di carne, e fermarsi accanto alle prime vacche, sulla riva del Nilo.
4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.	4 Ma le vacche brutte di aspetto e magre di carne divorarono le sette vacche belle di aspetto e grasse. E il faraone si svegliò.
5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.	5 Poi si riaddormentò e sognò una seconda volta: ecco sette spighe venir su da un unico stelo, grosse e belle.
6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.	6 Ma ecco sette spighe, sottili ed arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo di quelle.
7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.	7 E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe grosse e piene. Poi il faraone si svegliò: era un sogno!
8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.	8 Alla mattina il suo spirito era conturbato, perciò mandò a chiamare tutti gli indovini e tutti i sapienti dell'Egitto. Il faraone raccontò loro il suo sogno, ma non vi fu nessuno che lo interpretasse al faraone.
9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.	9 Allora il capo-coppiere parlò col faraone in questi termini: "Io devo ricordare oggi le mie colpe.
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.	10 Il faraone si era adirato contro i suoi ministri e mi aveva messo in residenza forzata nella casa del capo-cuoco, me e il capo-panettiere.
11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.	11 Poi noi facemmo un sogno nella stessa notte, io e lui; ma sognammo ciascuno un sogno con un significato particolare.
12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.	12 Ora vi era là con noi un giovane ebreo, schiavo del capo-cuoco; noi gli raccontammo i nostri sogni e lui ce li interpretò, dando a ciascuno l'interpretazione del suo sogno.
13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'	13 E proprio come ci aveva interpretato, così avvenne; me il faraone ha restituito nella mia carica e lui ha impiccato".
14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.	14 Allora il faraone mandò a chiamare Giuseppe; fu tratto subito fuori dalla fossa ed egli si rase, si cambiò gli abiti e venne dal faraone.
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'	15 Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Ho fatto un sogno, e non c'è alcuno che lo interpreti; ora io ho sentito dire di te che ti basta ascoltare un sogno, per subito interpretarlo".
16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'	16 Giuseppe rispose al faraone in questi termini: "Io non c'entro: è Dio che darà la risposta per la salute del faraone!".
17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.	17 Allora il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Nel mio sogno io stavo sulla riva del Nilo.
18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	18 Ed ecco salire dal Nilo sette vacche, grasse di carne e belle di forma, e pascolare nella macchia di papiro.
19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.	19 Ed ecco sette altre vacche salire dopo quelle, deboli, bruttissime di forma e magre di carne: non ne vidi mai di così brutte in tutta la terra d'Egitto.
20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.	20 Poi le vacche magre e brutte divorarono le prime sette vacche, quelle grasse.
21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.	21 Ed entrarono bensì queste nell'interno di quelle, ma non si capiva che vi fossero entrate, perché il loro aspetto era brutto come prima. E mi svegliai.
22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;	22 Poi vidi nel mio sogno sette spighe venire su da un solo stelo, piene e belle.
23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.	23 Ma ecco sette spighe secche, sottili ed arse dal vento orientale, che germogliavano dopo di quelle.
24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'	24 E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe belle. Ora io l'ho detto agli indovini, ma non c'è nessuno che mi dia un'indicazione".
25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.	25 Allora Giuseppe disse al faraone: "Il sogno del faraone è uno solo: quello che Dio sta per fare, egli lo ha indicato al faraone.
26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.	26 Le sette vacche belle sono sette anni; e le sette spighe belle sono sette anni: è un solo sogno.
27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.	27 E le sette vacche magre e brutte, che salgono dopo di quelle, sono sette anni; e le sette spighe sottili, arse dal vento orientale, sono sette anni: vi saranno sette anni di carestia.
28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.	28 E' appunto la cosa che ho detto al faraone: quello che Dio sta per fare, l'ha fatto vedere al faraone.
29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,	29 Ecco che stanno per venire sette anni, in cui vi sarà grande abbondanza in tutta la terra d'Egitto.
30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.	30 Poi a questi succederanno sette anni di carestia, e si dimenticherà tutta quell'abbondanza nella terra d'Egitto, e la carestia consumerà il paese.
31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.	31 E non si conoscerà più che vi sia stata l'abbondanza nel paese a causa della carestia venuta in seguito, perché sarà dura assai.
32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.	32 E quanto al fatto che il sogno del faraone si è ripetuto due volte, gli è che la cosa è decisa da Dio e che Dio si affretta ad eseguirla".
33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.	33 "Ora il faraone si provveda di un uomo intelligente e sapiente e lo stabilisca sulla terra d'Egitto.
34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.	34 Il faraone inoltre costituisca funzionari sul paese per prelevare il quinto sui prodotti della terra d'Egitto, durante i sette anni di abbondanza.
35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.	35 Essi radunino tutti i viveri di queste annate buone che stanno per venire, ammassino il grano sotto l'autorità del faraone e tengano in custodia i viveri nelle città.
36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'	36 Questi viveri serviranno al paese di riserva per i sette anni di carestia che verranno nella terra d'Egitto, e così il paese non sarà distrutto dalla carestia".
37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.	37 La cosa piacque al faraone e a tutti i suoi ministri.
38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'	38 E il faraone disse ai suoi ministri: "Potremo trovare un uomo come questo, in cui sia lo spirito di Dio?".
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.	39 Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Dal momento che Dio ti ha fatto conoscere tutto ciò, non c'è nessuno che sia intelligente e sapiente come te.
40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'	40 Tu stesso sarai l'amministratore della mia casa, e ai tuoi ordini l'intero mio popolo obbedirà; per il trono soltanto, io sarò più grande di te".
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'	41 Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Guarda, io ti stabilisco sopra tutto il paese d'Egitto".
42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.	42 Il faraone si tolse di mano il proprio anello e lo pose sulla mano di Giuseppe; lo fece rivestire di abiti di lino fine e gli mise al collo la collana d'oro.
43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.	43 Poi lo fece montare sul suo secondo carro e davanti a lui si gridava: "Abrek!". E così lo si stabilì su tutta la terra di Egitto.
44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'	44 Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: "Sono io il faraone, ma senza di te nessuno potrà alzare la mano o il piede in tutta la terra d'Egitto".
45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.	45 E il faraone chiamò Giuseppe col nome di Zafnat-Paneach e gli diede in moglie Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On. Poi Giuseppe partì per visitare tutta la terra d'Egitto.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.	46 Giuseppe aveva trent'anni quando si presentò al faraone, re d'Egitto. Poi Giuseppe uscì dalla presenza del faraone e percorse tutta la terra d'Egitto.
47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.	47 Durante i sette anni di abbondanza la terra produsse a profusione.
48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.	48 Egli raccolse tutti i viveri dei sette anni nei quali vi fu l'abbondanza nella terra d'Egitto, e ripose i viveri nelle città e cioè in ogni città ripose i viveri della campagna che aveva intorno.
49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.	49 Giuseppe ammassò il grano come la sabbia del mare, in quantità grande assai, così da dover cessare di farne il computo, perché era incalcolabile.
50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.	50 Intanto nacquero a Giuseppe due figli, prima che venisse l'anno della carestia; glieli partorì Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On.
51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'	51 E Giuseppe chiamò il primogenito Manasse, "perché -- disse -- Dio mi ha fatto dimenticare ogni mio affanno e tutta la casa di mio padre".
52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'	52 Ed il secondo lo chiamò Efraim, "perché -- disse -- Dio mi ha reso fecondo nella terra della mia afflizione".
53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,	53 Poi finirono i sette anni dell'abbondanza che vi era stata nella terra d'Egitto
54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.	54 e incominciarono a venire i sette anni di carestia, come aveva predetto Giuseppe. Ci fu carestia in tutti i paesi, ma in tutta la terra d'Egitto vi era del pane.
55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'	55 Poi tutta la terra d'Egitto incominciò a sentire la fame, e il popolo gridò al faraone per il pane. Allora il faraone disse a tutti gli Egiziani: "Andate da Giuseppe, fate quello che vi dirà".
56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.	56 La carestia dominava su tutta la superficie della terra. Allora Giuseppe aprì tutti i depositi in cui vi era del grano, e vendette il grano agli Egiziani. Ma la carestia s'inasprì nella terra d'Egitto.
57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.	57 E tutti i paesi venivano in Egitto per comperare grano da Giuseppe, perché la carestia infieriva in tutta la terra.
