Genesis 30

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Rachel, seeing that she herself gave Jacob no children, became jealous of her sister. And she said toJacob, 'Give me children, or I shal die!'	1 Vio Raquel que no daba hijos a Jacob, y celosa de su hermana dijo a Jacob: «Dame hijos, o si no me muero.»
2 This made Jacob angry with Rachel, and he retorted, 'Am I in the position of God, who has denied youmotherhood?'	2 Jacob se enfadó con Raquel y dijo: ¿Estoy yo acaso en el lugar de Dios, que te ha negado el fruto del vientre?»
3 So she said, 'Here is my slave-girl, Bilhah. Sleep with her and let her give birth on my knees; throughher, then, I too shal have children!'	3 Ella dijo: «Ahí tienes a mi criada Bilhá; únete a ella y que dé a luz sobre mis rodillas: así también yo ahijaré de ella.»
4 So she gave him her slave-girl Bilhah as concubine. Jacob slept with her,	4 Diole, pues, a su esclava Bilhá por mujer; y Jacob unióse a ella.
5 and Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son by Jacob.	5 Concibió Bilhá y dio a Jacob un hijo.
6 Then Rachel said, 'God has done me justice; yes, he has heard my prayer and given me a son.'Accordingly she named him Dan.	6 Y dijo Raquel: «Dios me ha hecho justicia, pues ha oído mi voz y me ha dado un hijo.» Por eso le llamó Dan.
7 Again Rachel's slave-girl Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	7 Otra vez concibió Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel, y dio a Jacob un segundo hijo.
8 Then Rachel said, 'I have fought a fateful battle with my sister, and I have won!' So she named himNaphtali.	8 Y dijo Raquel: «Me he trabado con mi hermana a brazo partido y la he podido»; y le llamó Neftalí.
9 Now Leah, seeing that she had ceased to bear children, took her slave-girl Zilpah and gave her toJacob as concubine.	9 Viendo Lía que había dejado de dar a luz, tomó a su esclava Zilpá, y se la dio a Jacob por mujer.
10 So Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a son by Jacob.	10 Y Zilpá, la esclava de Lía, dio a Jacob un hijo.
11 Then Leah exclaimed, 'What good fortune!' So she named him Gad.	11 Lía dijo: «¡Enhorabuena!» Y le llamó Gad.
12 Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	12 Zilpá, la esclava de Lía, dio a Jacob un segundo hijo,
13 Then Leah said, 'What blessedness! Women will cal me blessed!' So she named him Asher.	13 y dijo Lía: «¡Feliz de mí! pues me felicitarán las demás.» Y le llamó Aser.
14 One day, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes in the field and broughtthem to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.'	14 Una vez fue Rubén, al tiempo de la siega del trigo, y encontró en el campo unas mandrágoras que trajo a su madre Lía. Y dijo Raquel a Lía “«¿Quieres darme las mandrágoras de tu hijo?»
15 Leah replied, 'Is it not enough to have taken my husband, without your taking my son's mandrakesas well?' So Rachel said, 'Very wel , he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes.'	15 Respondióle: «¿Es poco haberte llevado mi marido, que encima vas a llevarte las mandrágoras de mi hijo?» Dijo Raquel: «Sea: que se acueste contigo Jacob esta noche, a cambio de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.»
16 When Jacob came back from the fields that night, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You mustcome to me, for I have hired you at the price of my son's mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night.	16 A la tarde, cuando Jacob volvió del campo, sale Lía a su encuentro y le dice: «Tienes que venir conmigo porque he pagado por ti unas mandrágoras de mi hijo.» Y él se acostó con ella aquella noche.
17 God heard Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son by Jacob.	17 Dios oyó a Lía, que concibió y dio un quinto hijo a Jacob.
18 Then Leah said, 'God has given me my reward for giving my slave-girl to my husband.' So shenamed him Issachar.	18 Y dijo Lía: «Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, a mí, que tuve que dar mi esclava a mi marido.» Y le llamó Isacar.
19 Again Leah conceived and gave birth to a sixth son by Jacob,	19 Lía concibió otra vez y dio el sexto hijo a Jacob.
20 and said, 'God has given me a fine gift; now my husband wil bring me presents, for I have borne himsix sons.' So she named him Zebulun.	20 Y dijo Lía: «Me ha hecho Dios un buen regalo. Ahora sí que me apreciará mi marido, pues le he dado seis hijos.» Y le llamó Zabulón.
21 Later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.	21 Después dio a luz una hija a la que llamó Dina.
22 Then God remembered Rachel; he heard her and opened her womb.	22 Entonces se acordó Dios de Raquel. Dios la oyó y abrió su seno,
23 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, 'God has taken away my disgrace!'	23 y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y dijo: «Ha quitado Dios mi afrenta.»
24 She named him Joseph, saying, 'May Yahweh add another son for me!'	24 Y le llamó José, como diciendo: «Añádame Yahveh otro hijo.»
25 When Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Release me and let me go home tomy own country.	25 Cuando Raquel hubo dado a luz a José, dijo Jacob a Labán: «Déjame que me vaya a mi lugar y a mi tierra.
26 Give me my wives for whom I have worked for you, and my children, and let me go. You are welaware how long I have worked for you.'	26 Dame a mis mujeres y a mis hijos por quienes te he servido, para que me vaya; pues bien sabes bajo qué condiciones te he servido.»
27 Laban replied, 'If I have done what pleases you . . . I have learnt by divination that Yahweh hasblessed me because of you.	27 Díjole Labán: «¡Si en algo me estimas!... Yo estaba bajo un maleficio, pero Yahveh me ha bendecido gracias a ti.»
28 So name your wages,' he added, 'and I wil pay.'	28 Y agregó: «Fíjame tu paga, y te la daré.»
29 He replied, 'You know how hard I have worked for you, and how your stock has fared in my charge.	29 Respondióle: «Tu sabes cómo te he servido, y cómo le fue a tu ganado conmigo:
30 The little you had before I came has increased enormously, and Yahweh has blessed you wherever Ihave been. When am I to provide for my own household too?'	30 bien poca cosa tenías antes de venir yo, pero ya se ha multiplicado muchísimo, y Yahveh te ha bendecido a mi llegada. Pues bien: ¿cuándo voy a hacer yo también algo por mi casa?»
31 Laban said, 'How much am I to pay you?' Jacob replied, 'You need not pay me anything. I shallchange my mind and go on tending your flock, if you do this one thing for me.	31 Dijo Labán: «¿Qué he de darte?» Respondió Jacob: «No me des nada. Si haces por mí esta, volveré a apacentar tu rebaño. Fíjate bien:
32 'Go through your entire flock today and remove every black animal among the sheep, and everyspeckled or spotted one among the goats. These wil be my wages,	32 Voy a desfilar hoy con todo tu rebaño. Aparta toda oveja negra y las cabras pintas y manchadas, y eso será mi paga,
33 and my uprightness wil answer for me later: when you come to check my wages, every goat I havethat is not speckled or spotted, and every sheep that is not black will count as stolen by me.'	33 y la garantía de mi honradez el día de mañana. Cuando te presente a controlar mi paga, todo lo que no fuere pinto y manchado entre las cabras y negro entre los corderos, será lo que he robado.»
34 Laban replied, 'Good, just as you say.'	34 Dijo Labán: «Bien, sea como dices.»
35 That same day he removed the striped and speckled he-goats and all the spotted and speckled she-goats, every one that had white on it, and al the black sheep, and entrusted these to his sons.	35 Y aquel mismo día apartó los machos cabríos listados y manchados, todo lo que tenía en sí algo de blanco, así como todo lo negro entre las ovejas, y lo confió a sus hijos,
36 Then he put a three days' journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob grazed the rest ofLaban's flock.	36 interponiendo tres jornadas de camino entre él y Jacob. Este último apacentaba el resto del rebaño de Labán.
37 Jacob then got fresh shoots from poplar, almond and plane trees, and peeled them in white strips,laying bare the white part of the shoots.	37 Entonces Jacob se procuró unas vares verdes de álamo, de almendro y de plátano, y labró en ellas unas muescas blancas, dejando al descubierto lo blanco de las varas,
38 He set up the shoots he had peeled in front of the animals, in the troughs, in the water-holes wherethe animals came to drink. Since they mated when they came to drink,	38 e hincó las varas así labradas en las pilas o abrevaderos a donde venían las reses a beber, justo delante de las reses, con lo que éstas se calentaban al acercarse a beber.
39 the goats thus mated in front of the shoots and so the goats produced striped, spotted and speckledyoung.	39 O sea, que se calentaban a la vista de las varas, y así parían crías listadas, pintas o manchadas.
40 The ewes, on the other hand, Jacob kept apart and made these face whatever was striped or blackin Laban's flock. Thus he built up droves of his own which he did not put with Laban's flocks.	40 Luego separó Jacob los machos, echándolos a lo listado y negro que ahora había en el rebaño de Labán, y así se fue formando unos hatajos propios, que no mezclaba con el rebaño de Labán.
41 Furthermore, whenever the sturdier animals were mating, Jacob put the shoots where the animalscould see them, in the troughs, so that they would mate in front of the shoots.	41 Además, siempre que se calentaban las reses vigorosas, poníales Jacob las varas ante los ojos en las pilas, para que se calentaran bajo el influjo de las varas;
42 But when the animals were feeble, he did not put them there; so Laban got the feeble, and Jacob thesturdy.	42 mas cuando el ganado estaba débil, no las ponía de modo que las crías débiles eran para Labán, y las vigorosas para Jacob.
43 Thus the man grew extremely rich, and came to own large flocks, men and women slaves, camelsand donkeys.	43 Así que éste medró muchísimo, y llegó a tener rebaños numerosos, y siervas y siervos y camellos y asnos.
