Genesis 23

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 Or Sara visse cento ventisette anni,
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 e morì nella città di Arbee, che è Ebron, nella terra di Canaan; e Abramo vi andò per farne il duolo e piangerla.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 Essendosi poi alzato, terminato il funebre duolo, parlò coi figli di Het, dicendo:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 « Io sono forestiero e pellegrino presso di voi: datemi la proprietà d'un sepolcro tra voi, affinchè possa seppellire il mio morto ».
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 I figli di Het, rispondendo, dissero:
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 « Signore, ascoltaci: tu sei fra noi un principe di Dio; seppellisci il tuo morto nel migliore dei nostri sepolcri e nessuno potrà vietarti di seppellire il tuo morto nel suo sepolcro ».
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 Abramo si alzò e s'inchinò al popolo del paese, ai figli d'Het,
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 e disse loro; « Se acconsentite ch'io seppellisca il mio morto, ascoltatemi, e intercedete per me presso Efron, figlio di Seor,
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 affìnchè mi ceda la doppia caverna che ha nell'estremità del suo campo, me la ceda in vostra presenza, per il prezzo che vale, e così io possegga un sepolcro ».
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Allora Efron, che stava in mezzo ai figli di Het, (Efron) rispose ad Abramo in presenza di tutti quelli che entravano nella porta della città, e disse:
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 «No, signor mio, non avverrà così; anzi senti quel che dico: Io ti dò il campo e la caverna che vi è in esso, alla presenza dei figli del mio popolo: seppellisci pure il tuo morto ».
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 Abramo s'inchinò dinanzi al popolo del paese,
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 e in presenza del popolo disse ad Efron: « Ascoltami,ti prego: io darò il danaro per il campo; prendilo, e così vi seppellirò il mio morto ».
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Ed Efron rispose:
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 « Signor mio, ascoltami: il terreno che tu chiedi vale quattrocento sicli d'argento: questo è il prezzo fra me e te; ma che è gran cosa questa? Seppellisci pure il tuo morto ».
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 Avendo ciò udito, Abramo pesò alla presenza dei figli di Het il danaro domandato da Efron, cioè quattrocento sicli d'argento di buona moneta mercantile.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 Così il campo che era stato di Efron, nel quale era una doppia caverna che guardava verso Mambre, il campo, con la caverna e tutte le piante che erano all'intorno dentro i suoi confini,
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 fu ceduto in pieno dominio ad Abramo, in presenza dei figli di Het e di tutti quelli che entravano nella porta di quella città.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 Così dunque Abramo seppellì Sara sua moglie nella doppia caverna del campo che riguardava Mambre, la quale è Ebron, nella terra di Canaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 E dai figli di Het fu'confermato ad Abramo il dominio del campo e della caverna che era in esso, perche lo usasse come sepolcro.
