Genesis 23

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 Gli anni della vita di Sara furono centoventisette: questi furono gli anni della vita di Sara.
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 Sara morì a Kiriat-Arba, che è Ebron, nella terra di Canaan, e Abramo entrò per far lutto per Sara e per piangerla.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 Poi Abramo si alzò dalla presenza del suo morto e disse agli Hittiti:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 "Io sono forestiero e residente tra voi. Datemi la proprietà di un sepolcro, sotto la vostra autorità, sicché io possa portar via il mio morto e seppellirlo".
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 Gli Hittiti risposero ad Abramo: "Prego!
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 Ascolta noi, o signore! Tu sei un principe eccelso in mezzo a noi! Nel migliore dei nostri sepolcri seppellisci il tuo morto. Nessuno di noi ti proibirà di seppellire il tuo morto nel proprio sepolcro".
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 Ma Abramo si alzò, s'inchinò davanti al popolo del paese, davanti agli Hittiti, e disse loro:
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 "Se è proprio conforme al vostro intimo che io porti via il mio morto e lo seppellisca, ascoltatemi e interponetevi per me presso Efron figlio di Zocar,
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 perché mi venda la sua caverna di Macpela, che è all'estremità del suo campo. Per il suo pieno valore in argento, me la venda come proprietà sepolcrale in mezzo a voi".
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Or Efron era presente in mezzo agli Hittiti. Rispose dunque Efron l'hittita ad Abramo, mentre lo udivano gli Hittiti, tutti coloro che entravano per la porta della sua città, e disse: "Prego,
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 signor mio, ascolta me: ti vendo il campo; e anche la caverna che è in esso, te la vendo; in presenza dei figli del mio popolo te la vendo. Seppellisci il tuo morto".
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 Allora Abramo s'inchinò davanti a lui alla presenza del popolo del paese,
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 e parlò a Efron, mentre lo udiva il popolo del paese, e disse: "Se proprio tu, di grazia, mi ascolti, io ti do il prezzo del campo; accettalo da me, così io seppellirò il mio morto".
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Efron rispose ad Abramo, dicendo: "Di grazia,
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 ascoltami, signor mio; una terra di quattrocento sicli d'argento che cosa è mai tra me e te? Seppellisci dunque il tuo morto".
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 Allora Abramo accedette alla richiesta di Efron e pesò ad Efron il prezzo che egli aveva detto, mentre lo udivano gli Hittiti, cioè quattrocento sicli d'argento, di moneta corrente tra chi gira.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 Così il campo di Efron, che si trovava in Macpela, a oriente di Mamre, sia il campo che la caverna che vi si trovava e tutti gli alberi che vi erano dentro il campo e sul suo limite tutt'intorno,
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 passarono in proprietà di Abramo, alla presenza degli Hittiti, di tutti quelli che entravano nella porta della loro città.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 Dopo di che Abramo seppellì Sara, sua moglie, nella caverna del campo di Macpela, a oriente di Mamre, che è Ebron, nel paese di Canaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 Fu così che il campo e la caverna che vi si trovava furono trasferiti dagli Hittiti ad Abramo, come proprietà per sepolture.
