Genesis 23

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 Die Lebenszeit Saras betrug hundertsiebenundzwanzig Jahre; so lange lebte Sara.
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 Sie starb in Kirjat-Arba, das jetzt Hebron heißt, in Kanaan. Abraham kam, um die Totenklage über sie zu halten und sie zu beweinen.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 Danach stand Abraham auf, ging von seiner Toten weg und redete mit den Hetitern. Er sagte:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 Fremder und Halbbürger bin ich unter euch. Gebt mir ein Grab bei euch als Eigentum, damit ich meine Tote hinausbringen und begraben kann.
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 Die Hetiter antworteten Abraham:
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 Hör uns an, Herr! Du bist ein Gottesfürst in unserer Mitte. In der vornehmsten unserer Grabstätten darfst du deine Tote begraben. Keiner von uns wird dir seine Grabstätte versagen und deiner Toten das Begräbnis verweigern.
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 Abraham aber stand auf, verneigte sich tief vor den Bürgern des Landes, den Hetitern,
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 verhandelte mit ihnen und sagte: Wenn ihr damit einverstanden seid, dass ich meine Tote hinausbringe und begrabe, dann hört mich an und setzt euch für mich ein bei Efron, dem Sohn Zohars!
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 Er soll mir die Höhle von Machpela überlassen, die ihm gehört, am Rand seines Grundstücks. Zum vollen Geldwert soll er sie mir überlassen als eigene Grabstätte mitten unter euch.
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Efron saß unter den Hetitern. Der Hetiter Efron antwortete Abraham, sodass es die Hetiter, alle, die zum Tor seiner Stadt Zutritt hatten, hören konnten:
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 Nein, Herr, hör mich an: Das Grundstück überlasse ich dir und die Höhle darauf überlasse ich dir; in Gegenwart der Söhne meines Volkes überlasse ich sie dir. Begrab deine Tote!
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 Da verneigte sich Abraham tief in Gegenwart der Bürger des Landes
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 und sagte zu Efron, sodass es die Bürger des Landes hören konnten: Hör mich doch, bitte, an: Ich zahle das Geld für das Grundstück. Nimm es von mir an, damit ich dort meine Tote begrabe.
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Efron antwortete Abraham:
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 Herr, hör mich an! Land im Wert von vierhundert Silberstücken, was bedeutet das schon unter uns? Begrab nur deine Tote!
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 Abraham hörte auf Efron und wog ihm den Geldbetrag ab, den er in Gegenwart der Hetiter genannt hatte, vierhundert Silberstücke zum üblichen Handelswert.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 So ging das Grundstück Efrons in Machpela bei Mamre, das Feld mit der Höhle darauf und mit allen Bäumen auf dem Grundstück in seiner ganzen Ausdehnung ringsum,
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 in den Besitz Abrahams über, in Gegenwart der Hetiter, aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt Zutritt hatten.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 Dann begrub Abraham seine Frau Sara in der Höhle des Grundstücks von Machpela bei Mamre, das jetzt Hebron heißt, in Kanaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 Das Grundstück samt der Höhle darauf war also von den Hetitern als Grabstätte in den Besitz Abrahams übergegangen.
