1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 E visse Sara cento ventisette anni.
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 E morì nella città di Arbee, che è Hebron nella terra di Chanaan: e andò Abramo a renderle gli ultimi uffizii, e a piangerla.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 E spedito che fu dalle cerimonie del funerale, parlò co' figliuoli di Heth dicendo:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 Io son forestiero, e pellegrino presso di voi: datemi tra voi il diritto di sepoltura, affinché io possa seppellire il mio morto.
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 Risposero i figliuoli di Heth, e dissero:
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 Signore, ascoltaci: Tu sei presso di noi un principe di Dio: seppellisci il tuo morto in quella, che più a te piacerà, delle nostre sepolture: e nissuno sarà, che possa vietarti di seppellire il tuo morto nel suo monumento.
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 Si alzò Abramo, e s'inchinò al popolo della terra, vale a dire ai figliuoli d'Heth:
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 E disse loro: Se piace a voi, che io seppellisca il mio morto, ascoltatemi, e intercedete per me presso Ephron figliuolo di Seor:
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 Affinché egli mi conceda la doppia caverna, che egli ha al fondo del suo campo: a prezzo giusto me la dia alla vostra presenza, affinché io sia padrone di farne una sepoltura.
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Or Ephron si stava in mezzo a' figliuoli di Heth. E rispose Ephron ad Abramo, a sentita di tutti quelli che entravano nella porta della città, dicendo:
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 Non sia così, signor mio: ma fa' tu piuttosto a modo mio in quel ch'io ti dico: Io ti fo padrone del campo, e della caverna, che ivi è, alla presenza de' figliuoli del popol mio: seppellisci il tuo morto.
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 S'inchinò Abramo dinanzi al popolo della terra:
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 E parlò ad Ephron, stando tutt'all'intorno la moltitudine: Di grazia ascoltami: io darò il denaro per il campo: prendilo, e così vi seppellirò il mio morto.
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Ed Ephron rispose:
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 Signor mio, ascoltami: Il terreno, che tu domandi, vale quattrocento sicli d'argento: questo è il prezzo tra me e te: ma che gran cosa è ella questa? seppellisci il tuo morto.
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 Udito ciò, Abramo pesò il denaro domandato da Ephron alla presenza de' figliuoli di Heth, quattrocento sicli d'argento di buona moneta mercantile.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 E il campo una volta di Ephron, nel quale era una doppia caverna, che guardava verso Mambre, tanto esso, come la caverna, e tutte le piante, che erano all'intorno dentro de' suoi confini,
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 Fu ceduto in pien dominio ad Abramo alla presenza de' figliuoli di Heth, e di tutti quelli che entravano nella porta di quella città.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 E così Abramo seppellì Sara sua moglie in quel campo nella doppia caverna, che guardava verso Mambre, la quale è Hebron nella terra di Chanaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 E i figliuoli di Heth confermarono ad Abramo il dominio del campo, e della caverna, che era in esso per servirsene di monumento.
