Genesis 23

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 - Visse dunque Sara centoventisett'anni.
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 E morì nella città di Arbee, che è Hebron, nella terra di Canaan; e venne Abramo, e fece lutto, e la pianse.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 Terminata la cerimonia funebre, parlò ai figli di Het, dicendo:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 «Io sono forestiero, di passaggio fra voi; datemi il diritto d'[aver] un sepolcro tra voi, per seppellirvi il mio morto».
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 Risposero i figli di Het, e dissero:
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 «Ascoltaci, signore: Tu sei fra noi un principe di Dio; seppellisci il tuo morto ne' più scelti sepolcri nostri; nessuno potrà impedirti di seppellire nel suo stesso sepolcro il tuo morto».
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 S'alzò Abramo, s'inchinò al popolo della città, cioè ai figli di Het,
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 e disse loro: «Se piace a voi ch'io seppellisca il mio morto, ascoltatemi; intercedete per me presso Efron figlio di Seor,
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 acciò mi dia quella spelonca doppia che egli ha nell'ultima parte del campo suo; alla vostra presenza me la dia per il dovuto prezzo, sì che io ne abbia il possesso per farvi una sepoltura».
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Ora Efron stava in mezzo ai figli di Het. E rispose ad Abramo, ascoltandolo tutti quelli che stavano all'ingresso della porta di quella città; e disse:
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 «No, non si farà così, mio signore; ma tu piuttosto ascolta quel che ti dico: - Io ti dono il campo, e la spelonca che in esso si trova, alla presenza dei figli del mio popolo; e tu seppelliscivi il tuo morto -».
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 S'inchinò Abramo dinanzi al popolo della città.
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 E disse ad Efron, alla presenza del popolo: «Ti prego, ascoltami; io ti darò il prezzo del campo: tu prendilo, e così potrò seppellirvi il mio morto».
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Efron rispose:
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 «Signor mio, ascoltami: la terra che tu chiedi vale quattrocento sicli d'argento; questo è il prezzo fra me e te; è forse gran cosa? Seppellisci il tuo morto».
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 Il che udito, Abramo pesò la somma chiesta da Efron alla presenza dei figli di Het, quattrocento sicli d'argento della corrente moneta mercantile.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 Ed il campo già di Efron, nel quale era la spelonca doppia, di faccia a Mambre, tanto il campo quanto la spelonca con tutti gli alberi attorno ai suoi confini, fu stabilito
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 in possesso d'Abramo, dinanzi ai figli di Het ed a tutti quelli che eran davanti alla porta di quella città.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 Così Abramo seppellì Sara sua moglie nella spelonca doppia del campo che guardava Mambre, cioè Ebron nel paese di Canaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 Ed il campo, con la caverna che era in esso, fu dai figli di Het fermato in possesso d'Abramo, ad uso di sepoltura.
