Genesis 16

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Abram's wife Sarai had borne him no child, but she had an Egyptian slave-girl cal ed Hagar.	1 Or Sarai, moglie di Abramo, non avendo figlioli, ma avendo una schiava egiziana chiamava Agar,
2 So Sarai said to Abram, 'Listen, now! Since Yahweh has kept me from having children, go to myslave-girl. Perhaps I shal get children through her.' And Abram took Sarai's advice.	2 disse al suo marito: « Ecco, il Signore mi ha fatta sterile da non poter partorire: va dalla mia schiava, cosi forse avrò almeno da lei dei figlioli ». E avendo Abramo ascoltate le sue preghiere,
3 Thus, after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years, Sarai took Hagar her Egyptian slave-girl and gave her to Abram as his wife.	3 essa, passati dieci anni dacché eran venuti a dimorare nella terrà di Canaan, prese la sua schiava egiziana Agar e la diede come moglie al suo marito.
4 He went to Hagar and she conceived. And once she knew she had conceived, her mistress countedfor nothing in her eyes.	4 Ed egli s'accostò ad Agar, la quale sentendo d'aver concepito, disprezzo la sua padrona.
5 Then Sarai said to Abram, 'This outrage done to me is your fault! It was I who put my slave-girl intoyour arms but, now she knows that she has conceived, I count for nothing in her eyes. Yahweh judge betweenme and you!'	5 E Sarai disse ad Abramo: « Tu mi fai torto: io t'ho data tra le braccia la mia schiava, ed essa, accorgendosi d'aver concepito, mi disprezza: il Signore giudichi fra me e te ».
6 'Very wel ,' Abram said to Sarai, 'your slave-girl is at your disposal. Treat her as you think fit.' Saraiaccordingly treated her so badly that she ran away from her.	6 Abramo le rispose: « Ecco, la tua schiava è in tuo potere: fa di lei quel che ti piace ». Ma Agar, trattata duramente da Sarai, se ne fuggì.
7 The angel of Yahweh found her by a spring in the desert, the spring on the road to Shur.	7 E la trovò nel deserto, presso la fonte di acqua che è nella strada di Sur nel deserto, l'angelo del Signore,
8 He said, 'Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?' 'I amrunning away from my mistress Sarai,' she replied.	8 che le disse: « Agar, serva di Sarai, di dove vieni? e dove vai? » Ed essa rispose: « Fuggo dal cospetto di Sarai mia padrona ».
9 The angel of Yahweh said to her, 'Go back to your mistress and submit to her.'	9 E l'angelo del Signore a lei: « Torna dalla tua padrona e sottomettiti».
10 The angel of Yahweh further said to her, 'I shal make your descendants too numerous to becounted.'	10 E aggiunse: « Io moltiplicherò grandemente la tua posterità che, da quanto sarà numerosa, non potrà esser contata ».
11 Then the angel of Yahweh said to her: Now, you have conceived and will bear a son, and you shalname him Ishmael, for Yahweh has heard your cries of distress.	11 E le disse ancora: « Ecco tu hai concepito e partorirai un figlio, al quale porrai nome Ismaele, perchè il Signore ha sentita la tua afflizione.
12 A wild donkey of a man he wil be, his hand against every man, and every man's hand against him,living his life in defiance of al his kinsmen.	12 Egli sarà uomo feroce: le mani di lui contro tutti e le mani di tutti contro lui: egli pianterà le tende in faccia a tutti i suoi fratelli ».
13 Hagar gave a name to Yahweh who had spoken to her, 'You are El Roi,' by which she meant, 'Did Inot go on seeing here, after him who sees me?'	13 Ed essa chiamò il nome del Signore, che le parlava: « Tu il Dio che m'hai veduta », perchè essa aveva detto: « Certamente io qui ho veduto il dorso di colui che mi ha veduta ».
14 This is why the well is cal ed the wel of Lahai Roi; it is between Kadesh and Bered.	14 Perciò chiamò quel pozzo « Pozzo del vivente che mi vede ». Esso è tra Cades e Barad.
15 Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave his son borne by Hagar the name Ishmael.	15 Agar poi partorì un figlio ad Abramo, il quale gli pose nome Ismaele.
16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.	16 Abramo aveva ottantasei anni quando Agar gli partorì Ismaele.
