Genesis 16

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Abram's wife Sarai had borne him no child, but she had an Egyptian slave-girl cal ed Hagar.	1 Sarai, la moglie di Abram, non gli aveva dato figli, ma aveva una schiava egiziana, di nome Agar.
2 So Sarai said to Abram, 'Listen, now! Since Yahweh has kept me from having children, go to myslave-girl. Perhaps I shal get children through her.' And Abram took Sarai's advice.	2 Sarai disse ad Abram: "Ecco, il Signore mi ha impedito di partorire; deh, accostati alla mia schiava; forse da lei potrò avere figli". E Abram ascoltò la voce di Sarai.
3 Thus, after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years, Sarai took Hagar her Egyptian slave-girl and gave her to Abram as his wife.	3 Così, Sarai, moglie di Abram, prese l'egiziana Agar, sua schiava, al termine di dieci anni dal suo soggiorno nella terra di Canaan, e la diede in moglie ad Abram, suo marito.
4 He went to Hagar and she conceived. And once she knew she had conceived, her mistress countedfor nothing in her eyes.	4 Egli si accostò ad Agar, che restò incinta. Ma quando essa si accorse di essere incinta, la sua padrona non contò più nulla per lei.
5 Then Sarai said to Abram, 'This outrage done to me is your fault! It was I who put my slave-girl intoyour arms but, now she knows that she has conceived, I count for nothing in her eyes. Yahweh judge betweenme and you!'	5 Allora Sarai disse ad Abram: "Il mio torto è a tuo carico! Sono stata io a metterti in grembo la mia schiava, ma da quando si è accorta di essere incinta, io non conto più niente per lei. Il Signore sia giudice tra me e te!".
6 'Very wel ,' Abram said to Sarai, 'your slave-girl is at your disposal. Treat her as you think fit.' Saraiaccordingly treated her so badly that she ran away from her.	6 Abram disse a Sarai: "Ecco, la tua schiava è in tuo potere; falle quello che ti par bene". Sarai allora la maltrattò, sì che quella fuggì dalla sua presenza.
7 The angel of Yahweh found her by a spring in the desert, the spring on the road to Shur.	7 La trovò l'angelo del Signore presso una sorgente d'acqua, nel deserto, sulla strada di Sur,
8 He said, 'Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?' 'I amrunning away from my mistress Sarai,' she replied.	8 e le disse: "Agar, schiava di Sarai, da dove vieni e dove vai?". Rispose: "Fuggo dalla presenza della mia padrona Sarai".
9 The angel of Yahweh said to her, 'Go back to your mistress and submit to her.'	9 Le disse l'angelo del Signore: "Ritorna dalla tua padrona e sottomettiti al suo potere".
10 The angel of Yahweh further said to her, 'I shal make your descendants too numerous to becounted.'	10 Le disse ancora l'angelo del Signore: "Moltiplicherò assai la tua discendenza e non la si potrà contare a causa della sua moltitudine".
11 Then the angel of Yahweh said to her: Now, you have conceived and will bear a son, and you shalname him Ishmael, for Yahweh has heard your cries of distress.	11 Soggiunse poi ancora l'angelo del Signore: "Eccoti incinta: partorirai un figlio e lo chiamerai Ismaele, perché il Signore ha ascoltato la tua afflizione.
12 A wild donkey of a man he wil be, his hand against every man, and every man's hand against him,living his life in defiance of al his kinsmen.	12 Costui sarà come un onagro della steppa; la sua mano sarà contro tutti e la mano di tutti contro di lui; e abiterà di fronte a tutti i suoi fratelli".
13 Hagar gave a name to Yahweh who had spoken to her, 'You are El Roi,' by which she meant, 'Did Inot go on seeing here, after him who sees me?'	13 Allora Agar diede questo nome al Signore che le aveva parlato: "Tu sei il Dio della visione", perché diceva: "Qui dunque ho ancora visto, dopo la mia visione?".
14 This is why the well is cal ed the wel of Lahai Roi; it is between Kadesh and Bered.	14 Per questo quel pozzo si chiamò: Pozzo di Lacai-Roi; è appunto quello che si trova tra Kades e Bered.
15 Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave his son borne by Hagar the name Ishmael.	15 Poi Agar partorì ad Abram un figlio, e Abram chiamò Ismaele il figlio partoritogli da Agar.
16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.	16 Abram aveva ottantasei anni quando Agar gli partorì Ismaele.
