1 When Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedor-Laomer king of Elam, and Tidal king ofthe Goiim,	1 - Ora avvenne in quel tempo che Amrafel re del Sennaar, Arioc re del Ponto, Codorlaomor re degli Elamiti, e Tadal re delle genti,
2 made war on Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king ofZeboi m, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar),	2 mossero guerra contro Bara re di Sodoma, Bersa re di Gomorra, Sennaab re di Adama, Semeber re di Seboim, e contro il re di Bala cioè di Segor.
3 al the latter joined forces in the Val ey of Siddim (now the Salt Sea).	3 Tutti questi convennero nella valle detta dei boschi, dove è ora il mare di sale.
4 For twelve years they had been under the yoke of Chedor-Laomer, but in the thirteenth year theyrevolted.	4 Per dodici anni erano stati soggetti a Codorlaomor, ma al tredicesimo gli si ribellarono.
5 In the fourteenth year Chedor-Laomer arrived and the kings who had al ied themselves with him. Theydefeated the Rephaim at Ashteroth-Carnaim, the Zuzim at Ham, the Emim in the Plain of Kiriathaim,	5 Perciò, l'anno quattordicesimo, venne Codorlaomor coi re suoi alleati; e sconfissero i Rafaim in Astarot-Carnaim, gli Zuzim con loro, gli Emim in Save-Cariataim,
6 the Horites in the mountainous district of Seir near El-Paran, which is on the edge of the desert.	6 ed i Correi nella montagna di Seir sino ai campi di Faran che è nel deserto.
7 Wheeling round, they came to the Spring of Judgement (that is, Kadesh); they conquered all theterritory of the Amalekites and also the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-Tamar.	7 Poi tornarono indietro, e vennero alla fonte di Misfat, cioè Cades, e devastarono tutta la regione degli Amaleciti, e degli Amorrei che abitavano in Asason-Tamar.
8 Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out andengaged them in the Val ey of Siddim:	8 Allora scesero in campo il re di Sodoma, il re di Gomorra, il re d'Adama, il re di Seboim, ed il re di Bala cioè di Segor; e diressero le schiere contro quelli, nella valle dei boschi;
9 Chedor-Laomer king of Elam, Tidal king of the Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king ofEl asar: four kings against five.	9 cioè contro Codorlaomor re degli Elamiti, Tadal re delle genti, Amrafel re del Sennaar, ed Arioc re del Ponto: quattro re contro cinque.
10 Now there were many bitumen wel s in the Val ey of Siddim, and in their flight the kings of Sodomand Gomorrah fel into them, while the rest fled into the hil s.	10 Ora, la valle dei boschi aveva molti pozzi di bitume. I re dunque di Sodoma e di Gomorra, voltate le spalle, vi caddero dentro; quelli che restarono vivi fuggirono ai monti.
11 The conquerors seized al the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, andmade off.	11 Presero dunque [i vincitori] tutti gli averi di Sodoma e Gomorra, e tutte le vettovaglie, e se n'andarono.
12 They also took Lot (the nephew of Abram) and his possessions and made off; he had been living atSodom.	12 E [presero] anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abramo, che abitava in Sodoma, e le sue possessioni.
13 A survivor came to tell Abram, and Aner the Hebrew, who was living at the Oak of the AmoriteMamre, the brother of Eshcol; these were al ies of Abram.	13 Ed ecco, uno degli scampati lo annunziò ad Abramo ebreo, che abitava nella valle di Mambre Amorreo, fratello di Escol e di Aner; questi avevano fatto lega con Abramo.
14 When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he mustered his retainers born in hisown household, numbering three hundred and eighteen, and gave chase as far as Dan.	14 Il che avendo udito Abramo, esser cioè fatto prigioniero il fratello suo Lot, scelse trecentodiciotto de' migliori servi nati in sua casa ed inseguì [quei re] sino a Dan.
15 He and his retainers deployed against them under cover of dark, defeated them and pursued themas far as Hobah, north of Damascus.	15 Spartiti i suoi, assalì quelli di notte, li sconfisse, e li inseguì fino ad Hoba, alla sinistra di Damasco.
16 He recaptured all the goods as wel as his kinsman Lot and his possessions, together with thewomen and people.	16 E riprese tutti i beni, e Lot suo fratello con le sue sostanze, le donne ed il popolo.
17 When Abram returned from defeating Chedor-Laomer and the kings who had been on his side, theking of Sodom came to meet him in the Val ey of Shaveh (that is, the Val ey of the King).	17 Tornando Abramo dall'avere sconfitto Codorlaomor ed i re suoi alleati, il re di Sodoma uscì ad incontrarlo nella valle Save, che è la valle del re.
18 Melchizedek king of Salem brought bread and wine; he was a priest of God Most High.	18 Ma Melchisedec re di Salem, offrendo pane e vino (era infatti sacerdote di Dio altissimo),
19 He pronounced this blessing: Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.And blessed be God Most High for putting your enemies into your clutches.	19 lo benedisse, dicendo: «Benedetto Abramo da Dio altissimo, che creò il cielo e la terra;
20 And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.	20 e benedetto l'altissimo Dio, per la cui protezione i nemici son caduti nelle tue mani». Ed Abramo gli dette su ogni avere le decime.
21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, 'Give me the people and take the possessions for yourself.'	21 Disse allora il re di Sodoma ad Abramo: «Rendimi gli uomini, e prenditi tutto il restante».
22 But Abram replied to the king of Sodom, 'I swear by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth:	22 Ma questi rispose: «Giuro alzando la mano al Signore Dio altissimo, padrone del cielo e della terra,
23 not one thread, not one sandal strap, will I take of what is yours, for you to be able to say, "I madeAbram rich."	23 che dai fili di cui è tessuta la veste, fino ai legacci dei calzari, nulla accetterò di quel che ti appartiene, affinchè tu non abbia a dire: - Io ho arricchito Abramo: -
24 For myself, nothing -- except what the troops have used up, and the share due to the men who camewith me, Eshcol, Aner and Mamre; let them take their share.'	24 eccetto quel che hanno mangiato i giovani, e la parte che spetta agli uomini venuti meco, Aner, Escol e Mambre; questi prenderanno la propria porzione».
