NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 In the beginning God created heaven and earth.	1 In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram.
2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, with a divine wind sweepingover the waters.	2 Terra autem erat inanis et vacua, et tenebrae super faciem abyssi, et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas.
3 God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light.	3 Dixitque Deus: “Fiat lux”. Et facta est lux.
4 God saw that light was good, and God divided light from darkness.	4 Et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona et divisit Deus lucem ac tenebras.
5 God cal ed light 'day', and darkness he called 'night'. Evening came and morning came: the first day.	5 Appellavitque Deus lucem Diem et tenebras Noctem. Factumque est vespere et mane, dies unus.
6 God said, 'Let there be a vault through the middle of the waters to divide the waters in two.' And so itwas.	6 Dixit quoque Deus: “Fiat firmamentum in medio aquarum et dividat aquas ab aquis”.
7 God made the vault, and it divided the waters under the vault from the waters above the vault.	7 Et fecit Deus firmamentum divisitque aquas, quae erant sub firmamento, ab his, quae erant super firmamentum. Et factum est ita.
8 God cal ed the vault 'heaven'. Evening came and morning came: the second day.	8 Vocavitque Deus firmamentum Caelum. Et factum est vespere et mane, dies secundus.
9 God said, 'Let the waters under heaven come together into a single mass, and let dry land appear.' Andso it was.	9 Dixit vero Deus: “Congregentur aquae, quae sub caelo sunt, in locum unum, et appareat arida”. Factumque est ita.
10 God cal ed the dry land 'earth' and the mass of waters 'seas', and God saw that it was good.	10 Et vocavit Deus aridam Terram congregationesque aquarum appellavit Maria. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.
11 God said, 'Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants, and fruit trees on earth, bearing fruitwith their seed inside, each corresponding to its own species.' And so it was.	11 Et ait Deus: “Germinet terra herbam virentem et herbam facientem semen et lignum pomiferum faciens fructum iuxta genus suum, cuius semen in semetipso sit super terram”. Et factum est ita.
12 The earth produced vegetation: the various kinds of seed-bearing plants and the fruit trees with seedinside, each corresponding to its own species. God saw that it was good.	12 Et protulit terra herbam virentem et herbam afferentem semen iuxta genus suum lignumque faciens fructum, qui habet in semetipso sementem secundum speciem suam. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.
13 Evening came and morning came: the third day.	13 Et factum est vespere et mane, dies tertius.
14 God said, 'Let there be lights in the vault of heaven to divide day from night, and let them indicatefestivals, days and years.	14 Dixit autem Deus: “Fiant luminaria in firmamento caeli, ut dividant diem ac noctem et sint in signa et tempora et dies et annos,
15 Let them be lights in the vault of heaven to shine on the earth.' And so it was.	15 ut luceant in firmamento caeli et illuminent terram. Et factum est ita.
16 God made the two great lights: the greater light to govern the day, the smal er light to govern thenight, and the stars.	16 Fecitque Deus duo magna luminaria: luminare maius, ut praeesset diei, et luminare minus, ut praeesset nocti, et stellas.
17 God set them in the vault of heaven to shine on the earth,	17 Et posuit eas Deus in firmamento caeli, ut lucerent super terram
18 to govern the day and the night and to divide light from darkness. God saw that it was good.	18 et praeessent diei ac nocti et dividerent lucem ac tenebras. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.
19 Evening came and morning came: the fourth day.	19 Et factum est vespere et mane, dies quartus.
20 God said, 'Let the waters be alive with a swarm of living creatures, and let birds wing their way abovethe earth across the vault of heaven.' And so it was.	20 Dixit etiam Deus: “Pullulent aquae reptile animae viventis, et volatile volet super terram sub firmamento caeli”.
21 God created great sea-monsters and al the creatures that glide and teem in the waters in their ownspecies, and winged birds in their own species. God saw that it was good.	21 Creavitque Deus cete grandia et omnem animam viventem atque motabilem, quam pullulant aquae secundum species suas, et omne volatile secundum genus suum. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum;
22 God blessed them, saying, 'Be fruitful, multiply, and fil the waters of the seas; and let the birdsmultiply on land.'	22 benedixitque eis Deus dicens: “Crescite et multiplicamini et replete aquas maris, avesque multiplicentur super terram ”.
23 Evening came and morning came: the fifth day.	23 Et factum est vespere et mane, dies quintus.
24 God said, 'Let the earth produce every kind of living creature in its own species: cattle, creeping thingsand wild animals of al kinds.' And so it was.	24 Dixit quoque Deus: “Producat terra animam viventem in genere suo, iumenta et reptilia et bestias terrae secundum species suas”. Factumque est ita.
25 God made wild animals in their own species, and cattle in theirs, and every creature that crawls alongthe earth in its own species. God saw that it was good.	25 Et fecit Deus bestias terrae iuxta species suas et iumenta secundum species suas et omne reptile terrae in genere suo. Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum.
26 God said, 'Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be mastersof the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, al the wild animals and al the creatures that creep alongthe ground.'	26 Et ait Deus: “Faciamus hominem ad imaginem et similitudinem nostram; et praesint piscibus maris et volatilibus caeli et bestiis universaeque terrae omnique reptili, quod movetur in terra”.
27 God created man in the image of himself, in the image of God he created him, male and female hecreated them.	27 Et creavit Deus hominem ad imaginem suam; ad imaginem Dei creavit illum; masculum et feminam creavit eos.
28 God blessed them, saying to them, 'Be fruitful, multiply, fil the earth and subdue it. Be masters of thefish of the sea, the birds of heaven and al the living creatures that move on earth.'	28 Benedixitque illis Deus et ait illis Deus: “Crescite et multiplicamini et replete terram et subicite eam et dominamini piscibus maris et volatilibus caeli et universis animantibus, quae moventur super terram”.
29 God also said, 'Look, to you I give all the seed-bearing plants everywhere on the surface of the earth,and all the trees with seed-bearing fruit; this wil be your food.	29 Dixitque Deus: “Ecce dedi vobis omnem herbam afferentem semen super terram et universa ligna, quae habent in semetipsis fructum ligni portantem sementem, ut sint vobis in escam
30 And to al the wild animals, al the birds of heaven and al the living creatures that creep along theground, I give all the foliage of the plants as their food.' And so it was.	30 et cunctis animantibus terrae omnique volucri caeli et universis, quae moventur in terra et in quibus est anima vivens, omnem herbam virentem ad vescendum”. Et factum est ita.
31 God saw al he had made, and indeed it was very good. Evening came and morning came: the sixthday.	31 Viditque Deus cuncta, quae fecit, et ecce erant valde bona. Et factum est vespere et mane, dies sextus.
