NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Children, obey your parents (in the Lord), for this is right.1 Filii, oboedite parentibus vestris in Domino; hoc enim est iu stum.
"Honor your father and mother." This is the first commandment with a promise,2 Honora patrem tuum et matrem, quod est mandatum primum cum promissione,
"that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth."3 utbene sit tibi, et sis longaevus super terram.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord.4 Et, patres, nolite ad iracundiamprovocare filios vestros, sed educate illos in disciplina et correptione Domini.
Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ,5 Servi, oboedite dominis carnalibus cum timore et tremore, in simplicitatecordis vestri, sicut Christo;
not only when being watched, as currying favor, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,6 non ad oculum servientes, quasi hominibusplacentes, sed ut servi Christi facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo;
willingly serving the Lord and not human beings,7 cum bonavoluntate servientes, sicut Domino et non hominibus,
knowing that each will be requited from the Lord for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.8 scientes quoniamunusquisque, si quid fecerit bonum, hoc percipiet a Domino, sive servus siveliber.
Masters, act in the same way toward them, and stop bullying, knowing that both they and you have a Master in heaven and that with him there is no partiality.9 Et, domini, eadem facite illis, remittentes minas, scientes quia et illorum etvester Dominus est in caelis, et personarum acceptio non est apud eum.
Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power.10 De cetero confortamini in Domino et in potentia virtutis eius.
Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.11 Induitearmaturam Dei, ut possitis stare adversus insidias Diaboli.
For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.12 Quia non estnobis colluctatio adversus sanguinem et carnem sed adversus principatus,adversus potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, adversusspiritalia nequitiae in caelestibus.
Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground.13 Propterea accipite armaturam Dei, ut possitis resistere in die malo et,omnibus perfectis, stare.
So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate,14 State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate etinduti loricam iustitiae
and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.15 et calceati pedes in praeparatione evangelii pacis,
In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.16 inomnibus sumentes scutum fidei, in quo possitis omnia tela Maligni igneaexstinguere;
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.17 et galeam salutis assumite et gladium Spiritus, quod est verbumDei;
With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones18 per omnem orationem et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in Spiritu, etin ipso vigilantes in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis
and also for me, that speech may be given me to open my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel19 etpro me, ut detur mihi sermo in aperitione oris mei cum fiducia notum faceremysterium evangelii,
for which I am an ambassador in chains, so that I may have the courage to speak as I must.20 pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ut in ipso audeam,prout oportet me, loqui.
So that you also may have news of me and of what I am doing, Tychicus, my beloved brother and trustworthy minister in the Lord, will tell you everything.21 Ut autem et vos sciatis, quae circa me sunt, quid agam, omnia nota vobisfaciet Tychicus, carissimus frater et fidelis minister in Domino,
I am sending him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know about us and that he may encourage your hearts.22 quem misiad vos in hoc ipsum, ut cognoscatis, quae circa nos sunt, et consoletur cordavestra.
Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.23 Pax fratribus et caritas cum fide a Deo Patre et Domino Iesu Christo.
Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ in immortality.24 Gratia cum omnibus, qui diligunt Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum inincorruptione.
