Deuteronomy 13

1 "Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.	1 S'il s'élève au milieu de toi un prophète, ou quelqu'un qui dise qu'il a eu une vision en songe, et qui prédise quelque chose d'extraordinaire et de prodigieux (un signe ou un prodige),
2 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,	2 et que ce qu'il avait prédit soit arrivé, et qu'il te dise en même temps : Allons, suivons des dieux étrangers qui t'étaient inconnus, et servons-les ;
3 urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,	3 tu n'écouteras point les paroles de ce prophète ou de cet inventeur de visions et de songes ; parce que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous tente, afin qu'il paraisse clairement si, oui ou non, vous l'aimez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.
4 pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.	4 Suivez le Seigneur votre Dieu, craignez-le, gardez ses commandements, écoutez sa voix, servez-le, et attachez-vous à lui seul ;
5 The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.	5 mais que ce prophète et cet inventeur de songes soit puni de mort, parce qu'il vous a parlé pour vous détourner du Seigneur votre Dieu, qui vous a (re)tirés de l'Egypte, et qui vous a rachetés du séjour de servitude ; et pour te détourner de la voie que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a prescrite ; et tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
6 But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	6 Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils, ou ta fille, ou ta femme qui t'est si chère, ou ton ami que tu aimes comme ton âme, veut te persuader et vient te dire en secret : Allons, et servons les dieux étrangers qui te sont inconnus comme ils l'ont été à tes pères,
7 "If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,	7 les dieux de toutes les nations dont nous sommes environnés, soit de près, soit de loin, depuis une extrémité de la terre jusqu'à l'autre ;
8 gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other:	8 ne te rends point à ses persuasions, et ne l'écoute pas ; et ne sois pas d'aucune compassion à son sujet ; ne l'épargne point, et ne tiens point secret ce qu'il aura dit :
9 do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,	9 mais tue-le aussitôt. Que ta main lui donne le premier coup, et que tout le peuple le frappe ensuite.
10 but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.	10 Qu'il périsse accablé de pierres, parce qu'il a voulu te détourner du Seigneur ton Dieu, qui t'a (re)tiré de l'Egypte et de la maison de servitude ;
11 You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.	11 afin que tout Israël, entendant cet exemple, soit saisi de crainte, et qu'il ne se trouve plus personne qui ose entreprendre rien de semblable.
12 And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.	12 Si dans quelqu'une de tes villes, que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'aura données pour les habiter, tu entends dire à quelques-uns :
13 "If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said	13 Des enfants (fils) de Bélial sont sortis du milieu de toi, et ont perverti les habitants de leur ville, en leur disant : Allons, et servons les dieux étrangers qui vous sont inconnus,
14 that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,	14 informe-toi avec tout le soin possible de la vérité de la chose, et après l'avoir connue, si tu trouves que ce qu'on t'avait dit est certain, et que cette abomination a été commise effectivement,
15 you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,	15 tu feras passer aussitôt au fil de l'épée les habitants de cette ville, et tu la détruiras avec tout ce qui s'y rencontrera, même les animaux.
16 you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.	16 Tu amasseras aussi au milieu des rues tous les meubles qui s'y trouveront, et tu les brûleras avec la ville, consumant tout en l'honneur du Seigneur ton Dieu, en sorte que cette ville devienne comme un tombeau (monceau de ruines) éternel. (Ainsi) Elle ne sera jamais bâtie,
17 Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.	17 et il ne demeurera rien dans tes mains de cet anathème, afin que le Seigneur apaise sa colère et sa fureur, qu'il ait pitié de toi, et qu'il te multiplie comme il l'a juré à tes pères,
18 You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;	18 tant que tu écouteras la voix du Seigneur ton Dieu, et que tu observeras toutes ses ordonnances que je te prescris aujourd'hui, afin que tu fasses ce qui est agréable aux yeux du Seigneur ton Dieu.
19 because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.
