Deuteronomy 13

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 "Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.	1 Practiquen cuidadosamente todo lo que yo les ordeno, sin añadir ni quitar nada.
2 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,	2 Si surge en medio de ustedes un profeta o un intérprete de sueños, que te propone un signo o un prodigio,
3 urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,	3 y te dice: «Vamos detrás de otros dioses –que tú no conoces– para rendirles culto», aunque se cumplan el signo o el prodigio,
4 pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.	4 no hagas caso de las palabras de ese profeta o de los sueños de ese visionario. Porque el Señor, su Dios, los pone a prueba para ver si ustedes lo aman realmente con todo su corazón y con toda su alma.
5 The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.	5 Sigan al Señor, su Dios. Témanlo y observen sus mandamientos, escuchen su voz, sírvanlo y sean fieles a él.
6 But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	6 Y ese profeta o ese intérprete de sueños deberá ser castigado con la muerte, por haber incitado a la rebelión contra el Señor, tu Dios –el que te hizo salir de Egipto y te rescató de la esclavitud– para desviarte del camino por donde el te ordenó que fueras. Así harás desaparecer el mal de entre ustedes.
7 "If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,	7 Si tu hermano –el hijo de tu padre o de tu madre– tu hijo o tu hija, la esposa que duerme en tus brazos, o tu amigo más íntimo, trata de seducirte en secreto, diciendo: «Vamos a servir a otros dioses», que ni tú ni tus padres conocieron
8 gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other:	8 –los dioses de los pueblos próximos o lejanos que están a tu alrededor, de un extremo al otro de la tierra–
9 do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,	9 no cedas a sus instigaciones ni le hagas caso. Sé implacable con él, no lo perdones ni lo encubras.
10 but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.	10 Tendrás que hacerlo morir irremediablemente. que tu mano sea la primera en levantarse contra él para quitarle la vida. y que después todo el pueblo haga lo mismo.
11 You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.	11 Deberás apedrearlo hasta que muera, porque intento apartarte del Señor, tu Dios, que te hizo salir de Egipto, de un lugar de esclavitud.
12 And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.	12 Todo Israel, cuando se entere, sentirá temor, y no volverá a cometerse esta infamia entre ustedes.
13 "If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said	13 Si de una de las ciudades que te dio el Señor, tu Dios, para que vivas en ella, te llega esta noticia:
14 that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,	14 Gente despreciable de tu misma raza ha logrado seducir a los habitantes de su ciudad, diciendo» «Vamos a servir a otros dioses» –que tú no conociste–
15 you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,	15 investiga el caso, examinalo e infórmate debidamente. Y si es verdad que la cosa es así, que se ha cometido semejante abominación,
16 you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.	16 pasa sin compasión al filo de la espada a los habitantes de la ciudad, y conságrala al exterminio total con todo lo que hay en ella, incluido su ganado.
17 Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.	17 Reúne luego todos sus despojos en medio de la plaza, e incendia la ciudad con todos esos despojos, como un holocausto para el Señor, tu Dios. Ella se convertirá para siempre en un montón de ruinas y nunca más será reconstruida.
18 You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;	18 Y no retengas nada de lo que debe ser consagrado al exterminio. Así el Señor aplacará el ardor de su ira, se apiadará y tendrá misericordia de ti, y te multiplicará, como lo juró a tus padres,
19 because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.	19 con tal que tú escuches la voz del Señor, tu Dios. observando los mandamientos que hoy te prescribo y haciendo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, tu Dios.
