Deuteronomy 13

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 "Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.	1 Tout ce que je vous ordonne, vous le garderez et le pratiquerez, sans y ajouter ni enretrancher.
2 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,	2 Si quelque prophète ou faiseur de songes surgit au milieu de toi, s'il te propose un signe ouun prodige
3 urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,	3 et qu'ensuite ce signe ou ce prodige annoncé arrive, s'il te dit alors: "Allons à la suite d'autresdieux (que tu n'as pas connus) et servons-les",
4 pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.	4 tu n'écouteras pas les paroles de ce prophète ni les songes de ce songeur. C'est Yahvé votreDieu qui vous éprouve pour savoir si vraiment vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu de tout votre coeur et de toute votreâme.
5 The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.	5 C'est Yahvé votre Dieu que vous suivrez et c'est lui que vous craindrez, ce sont sescommandements que vous garderez, c'est à sa voix que vous obéirez, c'est lui que vous servirez, c'est à lui quevous vous attacherez.
6 But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	6 Ce prophète ou ce faiseur de songes devra mourir, car il a prêché l'apostasie envers Yahvéton Dieu, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte et t'a racheté de la maison de servitude, et il t'aurait égaré loin dela voie où Yahvé ton Dieu t'a ordonné de marcher. Tu feras disparaître le mal du milieu de toi.
7 "If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,	7 Si ton frère, fils de ton père ou fils de ta mère, ton fils, ta fille, l'épouse qui repose sur tonsein ou le compagnon qui est un autre toi-même, cherche dans le secret à te séduire en disant: "Allons servird'autres dieux", que tes pères ni toi n'avez connus,
8 gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other:	8 parmi les dieux des peuples proches ou lointains qui vous entourent, d'une extrémité de laterre à l'autre,
9 do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,	9 tu ne l'approuveras pas, tu ne l'écouteras pas, ton oeil sera sans pitié, tu ne l'épargneras pas ettu ne cacheras pas sa faute.
10 but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.	10 Oui, tu devras le tuer, ta main sera la première contre lui pour le mettre à mort, et la mainde tout le peuple continuera l'exécution.
11 You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.	11 Tu le lapideras jusqu'à ce que mort s'ensuive, car il a cherché à t'égarer loin de Yahvé tonDieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
12 And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.	12 Tout Israël en l'apprenant sera saisi de crainte, et cessera de pratiquer ce mal au milieu detoi.
13 "If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said	13 Si tu entends dire que dans l'une des villes que Yahvé ton Dieu t'a données pour y habiter,
14 that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,	14 des hommes, des vauriens, issus de ta race, ont égaré leurs concitoyens en disant: "Allonsservir d'autres dieux", que vous n'avez pas connus,
15 you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,	15 tu examineras l'affaire, tu feras une enquête, tu interrogeras avec soin. S'il est bien avéré ets'il est bien établi qu'une telle abomination a été commise au milieu de toi,
16 you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.	16 tu devras passer au fil de l'épée les habitants de cette ville, tu la voueras à l'anathème, elle ettout ce qu'elle contient,
17 Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.	17 tu en rassembleras toutes les dépouilles au milieu de la place publique et tu brûleras la villeavec toutes ses dépouilles, l'offrant tout entière à Yahvé ton Dieu. Elle deviendra pour toujours une ruine, qui nesera plus rebâtie.
18 You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;	18 De cet anathème tu ne garderas rien, afin que Yahvé revienne de l'ardeur de sa colère, qu'ilte fasse miséricorde, qu'il ait pitié de toi et qu'il te multiplie comme il l'a juré à tes pères,
19 because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.	19 à condition que tu écoutes la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu en gardant tous ses commandementsque je te prescris aujourd'hui et en pratiquant ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé ton Dieu.
