Deuteronomy 13

1 "Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.	1 Se sorgerà in mezzo di te un profeta o uno che dica d'aver veduto un sogno, e predirà qualche segno e prodigio,
2 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,	2 e avverrà quanto ha annunziato, e dirà a te: Andiamo e seguiamo altri dèi, che tu non conosci, e serviamo a loro,
3 urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,	3 tu non dar retta alle parole di quel profeta o sognatore, perchè il Signore Dio vostro fa prova di voi, per sapere se veramente lo amate con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta la vostra anima.
4 pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.	4 Seguite soltanto il Signore Dio vostro, temetelo, osservatene i comandamenti, ascoltatene la voce: servite a lui solo e state a lui uniti.
5 The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.	5 E quel profeta o inventore di sogni sarà messo a morte, perchè ha parlato per allontanarvi dal Signore Dio vostro che vi trasse dalla terra d'Egitto e vi riscattò dalla casa di schiavitù, ha parlato per farti deviare dalla strada che il Signore Dio tuo ti ha prescritto. Così estirperai il male di mezzo a te.
6 But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	6 Se il tuo fratello, figlio di tua madre, o il tuo figlio, o la tua figlia, o la moglie che riposa sul tuo seno, o l'amico che tu ami come l'anima tua, ti volesse persuadere, dicendoti in segreto: Andiamo e serviamo altri dèi, dèi che nè tu, nè i tuoi padri conoscete,
7 "If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,	7 gli dèi di tutte le altre genti che vi circondano da vicino e da lontano, da un'estremità all'altra della terra,
8 gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other:	8 non gli dar retta, non l'ascoltare, il tuo occhio non lo risparmi, non aver pietà di lui, non lo nascondere,
9 do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,	9 ma uccidilo subito, alza per il primo la mano contro di lui e poi ti dia mano tutto il popolo.
10 but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.	10 Egli morrà oppresso dalle pietre, perchè volle staccarti dal Signore Dio tuo che ti trasse dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
11 You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.	11 Così tutt'Israele, udendolo, n'avrà timore, e nessuno in avvenire farà più delle cose simili a questa.
12 And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.	12 Se in una delle tue città che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà per abitarvi, sentirai alcuni che dicono:
13 "If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said	13 Dei figli di Belial sono usciti di mezzo a voi ed han sedotto gli abitanti della loro città, dicendo: Andiamo e serviamo a dèi stranieri, che non conoscete,
14 that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,	14 informati con sollecitudine e diligenza, ed esaminata la verità del fatto, se troverai esser vero quel che si dice, e che tale abbominazione è stata realmente commessa,
15 you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,	15 metterai subito a fil di spada gli abitanti di quella città, e la distruggerai con tutto ciò che contiene, anche le bestie.
16 you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.	16 Poi adunate in mezzo alle piazze tutte le suppellettili della città, le darai alle fiamme con essa, sicché tutto sia distrutto in onore del Signore Dio tuo: essa sia in eterno un mucchio di rovine; e non sia più riedificata,
17 Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.	17 e nulla di ciò che è dannato alla distruzione si attacchi alla tua mano, se vuoi che il Signore, allontanata da sè l'ardente sua ira, abbia di te misericordia e ti moltiplichi, come giurò ai tuoi padri di fare,
18 You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;	18 se darai ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio tuo e ne osserverai tutti i comandamenti che oggi ti prescrivo, affinchè tu possa fare ciò che è gradito nel cospetto del Signore Dio tuo.
19 because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.
