1 The LORD gave these instructions to Moses on the plains of Moab beside the Jericho stretch of the Jordan:	1 Disse também o Senhor a Moisés estas coisas nas planícies de Moab, junto do Jordão, defronte de Jericó:
2 "Tell the Israelites that out of their hereditary property they shall give the Levites cities for homes, as well as pasture lands around the cities.	2 Manda aos filhos de Israel que dêem das suas possessões aos Levitas
3 The cities shall serve them to dwell in, and the pasture lands shall serve their herds and flocks and other animals.	3 cidades para habitarem, e os seus subúrbios, para que eles morem nas cidades, e os subúrbios sejam para os seus gados e animais.
4 The pasture lands of the cities to be assigned the Levites shall extend a thousand cubits from the city walls in each direction.	4 Estes subúrbios estender-se-ão dos muros das cidades para fora mil passos em roda.
5 Thus you shall measure out two thousand cubits outside the city along each side-east, south, west and north-with the city lying in the center. This shall serve them as the pasture lands of their cities.	5 Serão de dois mil côvados para o oriente, de dois mil côvados para o meio-dia, dois mil côvados para o ocidente, e dois mil côvados para o setentrião, ficando a cidade no meio. Estes são os lugares das pastagens das suas cidades.
6 "Now these are the cities you shall give to the Levites: the six cities of asylum which you must establish as places where a homicide can take refuge, and in addition forty-two other cities--	6 Das mesmas cidades que deres aos Levitas, seis serão destinadas para refúgio dos fugitivos, a fim de que nelas se acolha aquele que tiver derramado sangue (involuntariamente); além destas (seis), haverá (para os Levitas) outras quarenta e duas cidades,
7 a total of forty-eight cities with their pasture lands to be assigned the Levites.	7 isto é, ao todo quarenta e oito com os seus subúrbios.
8 In assigning the cities from the property of the Israelites, take more from a larger group and fewer from a smaller one, so that each group will cede cities to the Levites in proportion to its own heritage."	8 Essas cidades que se hão-de dar das possessões dos filhos de Israel, serão tomadas mais dos que têm mais, e menos dos que têm menos: cada um dará cidades aos Levitas na proporção da sua herança.
9 The LORD said to Moses,	9 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
10 "Tell the Israelites: When you go across the Jordan into the land of Canaan,	10 Fala aos filhos de Israel e dize-lhes: Quando, passado o Jordão, tiverdes entrado na terra de Canaan,
11 select for yourselves cities to serve as cities of asylum, where a homicide who has killed someone unintentionally may take refuge.	11 determinai que cidades devem ser para refúgio dos fugitivos, que involuntariamente derramarem sangue.
12 These cities shall serve you as places of asylum from the avenger of blood, so that a homicide shall not be put to death unless he is first tried before the community.	12 Quando o fugitivo se tiver refugiado nelas, o vingador do sangue não poderá matá-lo, enquanto se não apresentar diante da assembleia, enquanto não for julgada a sua causa.
13 Six cities of asylum shall you assign:	13 Dessas cidades que se devem destinar a refúgio.
14 three beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Canaan.	14 três serão do lado de lá do Jordão, e três na terra de Canaan,
15 These six cities of asylum shall serve not only the Israelites but all the resident or transient aliens among them, so that anyone who has killed another unintentionally may take refuge there.	15 e (serão) tanto para os filhos de Israel, como para os estrangeiros e peregrinos, a fim de que a elas se acolha aquele que involuntariamente tiver derramado sangue.
16 "If a man strikes another with an iron instrument and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.	16 Se alguém ferir com ferro, e o ferido morrer, (o agressor) é réu de homicídio, também ele morrerá.
17 If a man strikes another with a death-dealing stone in his hand and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.	17 Se alguém atirar uma pedrada, e o ferido morrer (dela), será castigado da mesma maneira.
18 If a man strikes another with a death-dealing club in his hand and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.	18 Se morrer o que foi ferido com pau, será vingado com o sangue do que o feriu.
19 The avenger of blood may execute the murderer, putting him to death on sight.	19 O vingador do sangue matará o homicida: logo que o apanhar, o matará.
20 "If a man pushes another out of hatred, or after lying in wait for him throws something at him, and causes his death,	20 Se algum homem por ódio empurrar outro, ou lhe atirar com alguma coisa à traição,
21 or if he strikes another out of enmity and causes his death, he shall be put to death as a murderer. The avenger of blood may execute the murderer on sight.	21 ou se, sendo seu inimigo, o ferir com a mão, e ele morrer, o percussor será réu de homicídio; o vingador do sangue, logo que der com ele, o matará
22 "However, if a man pushes another accidentally and not out of enmity, or if without lying in wait for him he throws some object at him,	22 Porém, se ele acidentalmente, e não por ódio
23 or without seeing him throws a death-dealing stone which strikes him and causes his death, although he was not his enemy nor seeking to harm him:	23 nem por inimizade, fez alguma destas coisas,
24 then the community, deciding the case between the slayer and the avenger of blood in accordance with these norms,	24 e se provar diante do povo, e tiver sido ventilada a causa de sangue entre o que feriu e o vingador do sangue,
25 shall free the homicide from the avenger of blood and shall remand him to the city of asylum where he took refuge; and he shall stay there until the death of the high priest who has been anointed with sacred oil.	25 será livre da mão do vingador como inocente, e por sentença será reconduzido à cidade, a que se tinha refugiado, e ali ficará até à morte do sumo sacerdote, que foi sagrado com o santo óleo.
26 If the homicide of his own accord leaves the bounds of the city of asylum where he has taken refuge,	26 Se o que matou for encontrado fora dos limites das cidades, que estão destinadas para os fugitivos,
27 and the avenger of blood finds him beyond these bounds and kills him, the avenger incurs no bloodguilt;	27 e for morto por aquele que é vingador do sangue, não será culpado o que matar,
28 the homicide was bound to stay in his city of asylum until the death of the high priest. Only after the death of the high priest may the homicide return to his own district.	28 porque o fugitivo devia residir na cidade até à morte do pontífice. Depois que este morrer, o homicida pode voltar para a sua terra.
29 "These shall be norms for you and all your descendants, wherever you live, for rendering judgment.	29 Estas determinações serão perpétuas, e serão leis em todos os lugares que habitardes.
30 "Whenever someone kills another, the evidence of witnesses is required for the execution of the murderer. The evidence of a single witness is not sufficient for putting a person to death.	30 O homicida será castigado, ouvidas as testemunhas: ninguém será condenado pela deposição de uma só testemunha.
31 "You shall not accept indemnity in place of the life of a murderer who deserves the death penalty; he must be put to death.	31 Não recebereis dinheiro pelo resgate daquele que é réu de sangue, pois ele deve ser morto.
32 Nor shall you accept indemnity to allow a refugee to leave his city of asylum and again dwell elsewhere in the land before the death of the high priest.	32 Os desterrados e os fugitivos de nenhum modo poderão voltar para as suas cidades antes da morte do pontífice.
33 You shall not desecrate the land where you live. Since bloodshed desecrates the land, the land can have no atonement for the blood shed on it except through the blood of him who shed it.	33 Não manchareis a terra da vossa habitação, a qual se contamina com o sangue dos inocentes, e não pode ser purificada senão com o sangue daquele que derramou o sangue do outro.
34 Do not defile the land in which you live and in the midst of which I dwell; for I am the LORD who dwells in the midst of the Israelites."	34 Não profaneis a terra que habitais, onde também eu habito, porque eu sou o Senhor, que habito entre os filhos de Israel.
